How complete is the Andy timeline these days?

It’s…not. I’m still working on it, but very slowly, mostly because I have so much less free time and so much more going on in my life than I did when I started it. 

The other reason for my glacially slow progress is that 2013-2015 was pretty intense. Andy was very prolific on Tumblr then, and I need to include a lot of his posts because they show the image(s) he was trying to project and the ways he used fandom and social justice issues to work on people. There’s also the posse to consider: it’s hard to balance respecting their privacy and leaving them out as much as possible with accurately portraying what Andy was up to during that time. I need to be careful not to drift too far into speculation about their individual relationships with Andy beyond what I see in Tumblr posts, so I end up having to edit quite a bit.

And more specifically, I’ve stalled for a while on things like the Wal-Mart-parking-lot-sex bullshit. I thought it would get easier to write about incidents like that over time, but no. It’s all just as repulsive as when I first heard about it, and it still makes me full-body shudder. He can be so exploitative and dehumanizing and…ugh. 

It’ll get done, though. In the meantime, at least there’s an overview in my sidebar.

Gluttony was never supposed to be just about food. It’s about overindulgence. Greed is about the uncontrolled desire of wanting things you don’t need, just to have them. Gluttony is basically hoarding things and overindulging, especially and specifically when those things are needed by other people.

Food was often used as an example because it was meant to be shown as one of the things that, when overconsumed by one person or a specific set of people, it would cause the deaths of others. It also had other ways in which it was used, yes, but overall, gluttony is about fucking overindulgence.

It’s also mentioned to often be about overconsumption of alcohol, but hey. We don’t really go after alcoholics the way we do fat people, do we?

Anyway, a capitalist billionaire is both a wonderful symbol for both greed and gluttony, and y’all are just fatphobic cowards

this is very important for people to remember! often you see posts that only address a small facet of executive dysfunction, and while that’s ok it can lead to people incorrectly interpreting it or believing they have it when they might not. I really want to stress that that is okay - no one will be mad if you realise you had it wrong - but please make sure you don’t leave people misinformed. 

As someone with severe executive dysfunction that affects all of the above catergories, i ask you to please share this and inform anyone who might not be aware of this. It can be very hurtful to see people dismissing exdcutive dysfunction because they believe that it is far less of a struggle than it really is.

I’ve always been a fan of an analogy I heard once. Your emotions are like one of the lights on your car’s dash. When one of them turns on, it means you need to check under the hood and fix them. It’s not bad that the light turned on, per se, and it doesn’t always mean something is broken. But what IS toxic, dangerous, and likely to break something, is when you let that light stay on, pretending it’s normal, until that braking fluid finally fails and you crash into someone, or your engine fails completely.

Feel jealous. Feel anger. 

Just don’t let it fester. You need to look inside of yourself, find out why you’re feeling the way you are, and bring yourself to a satisfied, stable state of mind. You can look at philosophy, meditation/introspection, religion, or actual therapy, or at least talking to someone about it. You’ll find you’re much more content and happy when you do something about those feelings, and come to some sort of conclusion or resolution.

Y’all always have to wallow in your misery instead of considering maybe, just maybe, the encouragement people like this give is just telling people to do one, easy thing instead of worrying about a whole routine. Can’t make yourself shower? That’s fine, just brush your teeth. Don’t have the energy to do your hair? Okay, just brush your teeth.

Making 1 small change that can start improving your mood leads to other small changes. When I couldn’t make myself shower I would make sure I changed underwear every day. And then I started using baby wipes to keep myself fresh. And then I worked my way back to trying to take showers every day. My record might not be perfect but I’m getting better.

It’s really unhealthy to keep the mindset that anyone who isn’t miserable and suffering under their mental illness or emotional problems doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Maybe they’ve just grown to learn how to love and care for themselves in spite of what they’re going through.

I don’t know what any of you people think professional help looks like, but when you walk in and say “i’m too depressed to do anything” they don’t just nod and say “well you’re broken forever i guess”. they don’t say “here take this pill and it’ll fix everything”. they work with you one step at a time and explain to you that you CAN in fact do simple things even though you’re depressed. it isn’t easy, but it’s not impossible, it just happens in small steps, but it isn’t getting any easier when you react to every instance of someone trying to help by refusing to listen.

little things i’ve learned:

one: pay attention to the music you’re relating to. sometimes it’s a clear indicator that something is wrong. other times, it’s an indicator that something is very, very right. when the latter happens, pay extra close attention.

two: true control is subtle, not obsessive. you may not even know that you have it when you do. people who are in control do not question it. they just are.

three: never pass up the opportunity to stick the tips of your fingers out the window of a moving car. feel the wind carry you to the sound of your favorite songs. this is a reminder that you’re alive.

four: thoughts don’t have to mean anything. you can just let them be there.

five: notice when you’re struggling and allow yourself some leeway when you do. however, learn the difference between giving yourself leeway and enabling your struggle. 

six: you cannot build self-love from a foundation of self-hatred. first, work toward self-acceptance. love will follow.

seven: do not love others simply because they love you back. do not expend your love on people who won’t love you back. 

eight: don’t forget to stop and look around. take a moment a day to stop doing and just be. the mindfulness hype isn’t overrated. there’s a reason for it.

nine: setting limits and saying no will not end any relationship worth keeping. 

ten: friendships built on moments of competitive misery are not healthy. if you find that you’re having the urge to constantly showcase your misery around someone, take that as a red flag. sadness is not a competition you want to win.

eleven: recovery is not about being happy. some days you will feel bored and flat. but these days are still better than those you built around destroying yourself. these days are still victories. recovery is about being alive.

twelve: when you’ve built an identity around being sad, the concept of happiness may scare you. giving that sadness up will strip you of most everything and leave you feeling empty. embrace this emptiness and fill it up with exploration. you’ll find that it’s worth it.

thirteen: you will not come out of your coldest days the same as you were going into them. this is not a bad thing. someday, you’ll be warm enough to feel the sun on your face again.

self-care isn’t always facemasks and watching your favourite movie. sometimes it’s forcing yourself into situations that you don’t want because you need to get shit done. the “stay home and binge netflix uwu” self-care can easily step into unhealthy coping mechanism / depression territory. it isn’t good or self-care to stay inside and watch tv all day. sure, it can be occassionally, but truly taking care of yourself can sometimes mean pushing yourself into hard situations to further your career or education or relationships, because you deserve to live your best life and you can’t do that from a gross bedroom only lit by a tv screen!

Earlier this week I got up and decided to clean my whole room. Including my closet (that hasn’t been cleaned in over a year)and folding all my clothes into my drawers and giving all my unused/too small clothes to goodwill-It took me the whole day because my room was both horribly messy and huge-

And being in my clean room, it’s honestly made me feel so much better than ‘sit in your bed and watch Netflix-self care’has.
