Cody squeezed his hand tightly and took a few deep breaths. “I tried that... I tried for years and they said that you weren’t real.. and eventually... they convinced me... I don’t even know which is real.” He fell asleep and wound up back ther.

Ricky grins and leans over, “You have no idea..” Running a hand along the other man’s chest, he nods, “Could be fun. And hey, I didn’t catch your name..”

Carson smiled at the hand on his chest. “Carson,” he replied with an easy smile. “And I didn’t catch your, gorgeous.”

“Back where baby?” Placing a soft kiss to Cody’s hand, he adjusts his blankets to help him be comfortable, “Talk to me. What’s bothering you so much?”

“I thought I was back there...” he whispered. “Back in my head.”

Caleb barely slept, always wanting to make sure that Cody was okay, also checking on him with every small movement that he made. He was almost asleep himself finally when Cody whimpered. Getting up, he holds his hand, “Hey..you’re okay. I’m still here.”

Cody gripped his hand. "Caleb... Please don't let me go back. I can't go back there...."

Once Cody finally fell back asleep, Caleb slowly, and very carefully, moved his way over to lay beside Cody. Granted, he was half hanging off the bed, but it was enough to where he could be right next to him, “I love you.”

Cody murmured something under his breath as he remained asleep. He stayed that way for another twelve hours, not even waking up with the doctors came in to check on him.

He woke up whimpering.

Caleb places another kiss to the other’s hand, “I am baby. God..I would do anything for you Cody. I just..I l-love you so much..”

His words finally seemed to help Cody relax as he drifted back into a much-more-peaceful slumber.

“Sleep baby. I’ll be right here. If you feel yourself slipping back to wherever you were before, I’ll pull you right back out I promise. I’m never going to let you go back to that hell it seems you were in.”

Cody closed his eyes and squeezed Caleb’s hand weakly. “They said you weren’t real... but you’re... you’re here... you’re so real...”

“N-No..it’s only been a little over a week. Do..do you want to talk about what you saw? What you were living through?”

A broken sob escaped Cody as he shook his head. “I wanna sleep,” he whispered. “But... but I don’t wanna go back... please d-don’t send me back.”

“I love you Cody and I want to make this okay for you..” A tear falls down his cheek and he just ignores it, “I..”

“It’s been four years,” he whispered brokenly. “I don’t know... what’s going on.”

Caleb reached forward and wiped Cody’s tears away, “It isn’t. I promise you, with everything that I have in me. What..what do you want me to do Cody? Anything to show you I’m really here..”

Cody leaned into Caleb’s touch to the best of his ability. “I don’t know what... what you can do, Cay...”

“Cody..have I ever told you anything that wasn’t the truth? That would make you not trust me? Would I have said yes to you asking me to marry you if none of this was real? I don’t know what to do to make you believe me, but..was I in that dream world? And was I as real to you as I am now?”

Cody drew a few shaky breaths. “This is the dream world,” he whispered. “With you and me together... this... this isn’t real...” The poor mans’ heart raced as the tears started to fall.

Caleb was expecting Cody to be confused, but not like this. Carefully sitting down on the edge of the bed, he shook his head, “I am real Cody. We are real. Whatever you may or may not have seen while you were unconscious..it wasn’t real. None of it was. But..” Gently, he grabs Cody’s hand and places it on his chest, “Feel that? That is real..I’d never leave you.”

Cody could feel the panic rising in his chest. “Am I dead?” he asked bluntly. It was the only thing that made sense. Carson had finally given him too much and it killed him.

Caleb was confused, “Ricky? As in Cindy’s son?” Shrugging, he manages a small smile, “Last I knew he moved to Florida when his wife got a job opportunity there a couple of years ago..why you asking?”

Cody shook his head. “Took me away… Cay… you’re not real…” He sounded scared and panicked. “They said you’re not real.”

“Hey..” Caleb shook his head and tried to maintain Cody’s focus, “You’re in the hospital..I probably should’ve said that I’m sorry. Look at me baby. There was an accident..you’ve been in a coma. You’re going to be okay, I know you are..”

Cody was trembling. “Coma?” He couldn’t piece anything together. “Where... Ricky?” In his mind, four and a half years had passed.

Caleb’s hands trembled as he cupped Cody’s face again, “I’m real..I promise I’m real with everything I have in me. We found each other okay? From the day on the park bench to you helping me through the whole thing with my dad. Look into my eyes baby, I’m real. I’m yours. And I’m here..”

Cody couldn’t focus on anything as his eyes darted around the room. His body wouldn’t move, but his mind was moving so quickly. “Where....”

Caleb looked at Cody confused, “No? Nothing. I’m as real as the day you proposed to me. How everyone clapped for us, remember that?” Smiling, he leans down and places a kiss to Cody’s forehead, not his lips, unsure how he was feeling at the moment, “Th-Thank you..for coming back..to me..”

Cody felt a sob shake him, but he felt so detached from everything. “You... found me...” he whispered. “I knew... you’d find me...” he wasn’t making much sense. “Please... be real...”
