I first landed in Bangkok, Thailand for the first time 11 years ago today (after a series of unplanned misadventures, of course)… And with the help of my good friend Dwight Turner, thus began a new chapter in my Journey. For over a year, we would run fun mixer events to raise funds for orphanages, for his Saturday teaching program in the slums, and later for refugees. He opened up the royal doors to the beautiful Kingdom of Thailand for me, introduced me to countless amazing people, and ensured I would have a life-altering experience in Asia… It was the gateway to a new life of permanent travel, social entrepreneurship, pioneering the Digital Nomad movement, and a "Hero's Journey" across 4 continents that would eventually lead to building the HERO Foundry network we have today! Just wrapped up HERO Week. I’m on top of the World! We had SUCH a fantastic week with my closest advisors here in Krabi, Thailand. We Summited the Mountain! This was my little secret spot today. Back on my FAVORITE beach on earth! By plane, by car, then by boat. Wander through monkey territory, the all the way to the end of the beach past where almost anybody goes (except the climbers) through the jungle, up the mountain into the caves out to my own private little cliff viewpoint. Did I sweat today? Check✅ Then I took a swim in the Andaman Sea. After 10 years wandering across the world, I’ve often pondered on the idea of the word “home”. I’ve lived on 4 continents now and it’s hard to say where home really is for me after all this time. “Home” usually just means the house I’m staying in at the moment, especially if it has my wife and son inside it! But this morning after returning to my favorite tropical paradise on earth, flying in over MILES and miles of green palm trees, I realized how EVERY time land in Krabi, Thailand, my Soul feels at home. This is my friend Sahat. 14 years ago today, he lost his parents and older brother in the December 26, 2004 tsunami that hit southern Thailand hard and claimed so many lives. I met him in Krabi, Thailand in 2009, and his phenomenal spirit helped light a fire in my heart. Like many of the friends I’ve made over the years in this magical part of the world, Sahat has sacrificed so much, he lives with so little (especially by comparison with many of us spoiled Westerners) and yet he has an incredible divine spark within that shines in the darkness. His smile lights up the world. For several years I would meet with him and his adopted auntie and uncle on the beaches every time I would visit Railay. My friends and I developed a very close relationship with this generous and joyful young man (9 years old at the time). Getting to know him closely was what revealed to me that I was called to be a father. Thank you, little brother, for bringing joy into my life and opening my eyes. Wherever you are today, I pray you’re thriving 🙏 . Here’s to making our climb to the top!
