A different type of Vampire Book

Athan is a vampire, who has been training his whole life to become the Blood Guard of the Sanguivita, which happens to be Tendra. His duty is to watch over her and to bring her safely to his brother and the future King, Idris. A prophecy said that her blood is supposed to the first born strength to fight their enemies and help unite the clans. Of course, things don't go as planned. There are two different vampire clans after them, trying to get to the Sanguivita themselves. As if that would not be enough, they find out that they have an enemy in their midst, who decided that betraying his own clan and working with the enemy would be the better choice.

During fighting against enemies, hiding and not knowing whom to trust anymore, Tendra and Athan start falling for each other. A love that cannot be, as Tendra is promised for his brother Idris, to be his mate and source of strength.

I like the character development. Tendra is a regular person, not knowing what all lurks in the darkness and hidden from view. Thrown into all these new scenarios, she is believable in her reactions. She is a fighter, she doesn't dwell on the past and complain, instead she looks for ways out and how to keep going.

Athan starts out to be the typical badass alpha male, but being with Tendra makes him change. He starts to accept and respect her and it is nice seeing this happen as the story progresses. There is a twist towards the end and I cannot wait for the next books in this series to come out. This was a good start to it!

This had a slow start and was a little confusing to me in the beginning, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Justin Lazarus, the Seer of London, is a fraud making money off of the rich that are curious about getting in touch with the deceased. He doesn't see anything wrong in this and is very talented in his profession. Then he comes across the wrong people and suddenly his life is turned upside down. Nathaniel Roy is the son of an archbishop, who studied to be a well-recognized lawyer and then decided to change into a journalist. His then love Tony made him realize that while law was interesting and a secure way, it wasn't him. Journalism was where he felt at home. That change was not appreciated by his family, but knowing that he is gay and not just sharing accommodation, but also his bed and life with Tony wouldn't have been acceptable at all. Their paths cross when Nathaniel decides to investigate the Seer of London, to write a story about the fraud behind it. There is attraction between the two, that both don't want to recognize and instead haul insults at each other. Then Clem is at risk of losing his home, and on the search for the new Earl Nathaniel runs into Justin who has information about the whereabouts of the new Earl. Together they have to weather attacks from those that don't want the new Earl to take over his inheritance and those that want the money for themselves. Forced to work together, the attraction between them is undeniable and both have to face the fact that the other is maybe not what they thought he is. It is a slow burn, with twists and turns that pull you in and make you want to read more. I am looking forward to reading more of these two. The character development is really well done, despite being very slow at the beginning. I received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.

Pepper grew up under public scrutiny as the daughter of famous Hollywood film producer Peter O'Brien. Every little mistake she made was kept on film or written about in the press, painting her as the family clutz. Even if those mistakes were not all her fault. Well, some of them were not. Her family makes jokes about her, the Train Wreck with no career and unable to keep a job. Known for crashing an expensive car into a film set or knocking a famous actor out with his own Oscar. Pepper doesn't like to live like a bird kept in a cage and made fun of. She wants to find her place in the world, preferable out of public view. When trying to make it on her own in Stoneybrook, a small town at the ocean, and trying to get over her broken engagement, her live is saved by Derek Cashette. Good looking and sexy, but one problem: he's her brother's best friend, scouting out locations for a documentary that is funded by her father. Another problem: she's had a crush on him since forever. Peter O'Brien forces Derek to watch Pepper and make sure she stays in line until after the wedding of her brother. The wedding that is taking place at the same location as hers should have been. Because hey, her father had already paid for it all, so why waste the money. Feeling betrayed, Pepper keeps her head up and fights through. Until her ex-fiance, another good friend of her brother, gets to close to her during the wedding, threatening her. Of course, Pepper is blamed for ruining the mood at the wedding when things go sideways and she leaves without Derek. Will he find out how much Pepper means to him and be able to win her over?

I've already read Books by Elise Faber before and Kristen wasn't unknown to me as an author as well. These books are all taking place at Prestige Media Group, a group dealing with marketing for sports professionals. Offsides is the first story in this book, by Elise Faber. This is where we are introduced to Becca and Devon, who is the CEO of Prestige Media Group and a former hockey player himself. Becca is his temporary assistant and he catches himself having fantasies about his assistant. which is placing him in a tough situation as there is his rule to not have any relationship with employees. This is not their only problem as Becca has to also deal with a jealous and bullying ex-boyfriend. Him trying to help her and their dance around each other was fun to read and no worries, there will be a HEA for the two of them :-) Off Guard is the next story, written by Stephanie Fournet. This was my first time reading something by this author and it was an interesting read. We get to know Charlie, a former track and run athlete who has a very strict exercise program and diet. She feels the need to be always the best at everything and therefore, puts herself through a lot. Charlie just landed her dream job in PR at Prestige Media, only to run into Hutch Barlow, an athlete that just signed up with Prestige Media. Her boss has a strict no fraternizing policy and Charlie doesn't want to risk her job by falling in love with Hutch. Though love didn't listen to this and before she notices it, she is falling hard for Hutch as he for her. It takes some ups and downs for them to find a solution to their situation and to have a valid shot at their HEA. Off Limits is the third and final story in this book, by Kristin Vayden. This story is about Marcus and Ava, who have known each other for quite some time, as Marcus is Ava's twin brothers manager at Prestige Media Group. Marcus has a thing for Ava for years, though Ava blamed him for her brother going back on the ice after a bad accident he had 5 years ago. Marcus persistence breaks through Ava's protective walls very slowly, but when they fall, Ava has to realize that she still has feelings for Marcus. It is fun to read their story and find out how they manage to overcome their troubles and find a happy future for themselves. If you like sports and love romance, this is definitely for you!
