A Yale Law School graduate who left corporate litigation after a medical malpractice case completely changed her perspective on her career.

She moved to Pittsburgh looking for work that felt real — somewhere protecting people mattered more than protecting reputations.

Known for her composure, sharp tongue, and refusal to be easily intimidated, most hospital staff prefer to avoid being summoned to her office.

She fiercely advocates for patients and refuses to excuse negligence regardless of someone’s status or position within the hospital.

She keeps others at a distance and rarely allows herself emotional attachments, though the few people who earn her trust discover a far softer side beneath her cold exterior.

Margo’s mary-janes clicked against the pavement as she pranced out to Ekaterina’s car, giddy as always when it came to seeing her beloved Belova.

As a compromise between owning a farm and owning a hoarde of pet rats, Ekaterina had proposed a date to the local petting zoo instead. Margo of course, jumped at the opportunity to be surrounded by little fluffy things that she could pet.

She flashed her biggest smile as she stepped into Ekaterina’s car, pulling her in for a kiss before she buckled herself in.

“oh my goodness you will need to pull me by the scruff of my neck out of the baby goats if you ever wish to see me again,” she ranted, staring blissfully out the window as Ekaterina pulled out from the curb. “when I was just a jeune fille my grannie brought me to her friend’s farm and i would always get to ride the horses and have all the little lambs and little chickens crowd me and oh it was so peaceful.”

Her expression softened into something sadder. “it was the most peace i got to have in those times.” she said softly, “thank you for agreeing to this. it... it means very much to me, my love.”

Ekaterina smiled the moment Margo practically bounced into the passenger seat.

The kiss alone was enough to improve her entire morning.

By the time Margo had launched into her enthusiastic speech about goats, lambs, chickens, and the very real possibility of needing to be physically removed from the premises, Ekaterina was already laughing quietly to herself as she guided the car through traffic.

"I suspected as much," she replied. "Which is precisely why I wore sensible shoes today. Someone will need to carry you back to the vehicle after you inevitably attempt to adopt half the zoo."

Her teasing softened as Margo spoke about her grandmother.

Ekaterina reached across the center console, finding her hand without taking her eyes off the road.

She squeezed gently.

"I am glad she gave you those memories."

The words were quiet.

"And I am glad you told me about them."

For a moment, she simply held her hand.

Then the corner of her mouth curved upward again.

"Though I should warn you, my butterfly, I have every intention of using this information against you."

A brief pause.

"If I find you sitting in a field surrounded by baby goats looking impossibly adorable, I will be forced to stare."

Another pause.

"Extensively."

The smile she offered afterward was entirely unapologetic.

"And angel, there is nowhere else I would rather spend my Saturday than driving a beautiful woman to pet farm animals."

margo smiled softly, "you are truly too kind."

She blushed harder at the part about being carried. "My love, i am much too heavy to be carried, even for you, my dear."

though, the comment about using her information against her stuck a chord.

"what in the ever loving fuck does that mean?" Margo exclaimed, suddenly getting defensive. Ekaterina kept flirting like nothing, but Margo wasn't having it.

"no. no. pull over. what the fuck do you mean by that. Katie. what?" she chirped, she didn't mean that. she couldn't have meant what she thought. "what do you mean use it against me?" she asked, fighting back the tears that were suddenly forming. "i trusted you with that. nobody knows what you know."

The panic in Margo's voice made Ekaterina immediately regret her choice of words.

"Angel, no," she said softly, squeezing her hand. "That isn't what I meant at all. I would never use something you entrusted to me against you. Especially not something like this."

A small frown settled on her face as she glanced briefly toward Margo before returning her attention to the road.

"What I meant is that now I know another important memories for you. I know what peace looks like for you. I know why animals make you light up the way they do. I know why those memories matter."

Her expression softened.

"And now that I know, I get to remember it."

For a moment she was quiet.

"Do you remember when I told you that one day I'd like to buy a few acres somewhere? A little farm. A house in the countryside. Entirely too many animals."

A small smile tugged at her lips.

"I wasn't joking, mon bien-aimé. So when I said I intended to use that information against you, what I meant was that you've just given me another reason to imagine that future."

She shook her head softly.

"If I ever find a place full of lambs and goats, I'll think of you. If I ever have that little farm, you'll probably find yourself surrounded by baby animals before you've even taken your shoes off. That's the sort of thing I meant."

Another squeeze of her hand.

"Not a weapon. Just a note about something that makes the woman I love happy."

Margo sighed, looking down in her lap as the tears that had come continued to cloud her eyes.

"i'm-" she whispered, "i'm so sorry-"

"i did not mean to jump to conclusions i am just ever so used to weapons being formed out of my words-" she tried her best to keep her voice steady, "i am sorry i doubted you, my lover,"

she looked up, wiping a finger on the underside of here eyes, careful to not smudge her makeup. "i would like that. a house on an orchard like my grand-mère had. where we can grow fresh strawberries and live in peace," she whispered.

"i apologize, i do hope i did not ruin the mood of our date," she said shyly.

she still looked forward to the animals, and possibly, for some time to herself with just the lovely lady beside her.

The apology drew an immediate shake of Ekaterina’s head.

“None of that, angel.”

A small smile appeared as she carefully pulled the car over to the side of the road and shifted it into park.

“You haven’t ruined anything.”

She reached over and brushed her thumb beneath one of Margo’s eyes, careful not to disturb her makeup.

“The date is still happening. The goats are still waiting for you. I am still very much looking forward to spending the afternoon with you.”

After a moment, she adjusted her seat farther back before patting her lap twice.

The gesture was unmistakable.

“Come here, my butterfly.”

Her smile softened.

“I think you've spent quite enough time worrying for one morning.”

Margo was confused at first, carefully climbing over the centre console before softly putting her knee on the seat between Ekaterina's legs. she waited for a moment as Ekaterina closed the gap between them, pulling her into a soft hug and repositioning her as she did it. until Margo's thighs were on either side of hers. she held her close and whispered soft things into her ears until it was better.

Margo didn't want to leave. she was contented in the arms of her lover, but they couldn't stay on the side of the road forever.

Margo slowly climbed back into her seat, allowing Ekaterina to pull back into traffic. and in a few minutes, they were pulling into the parking lot, and paying their fare to get in.

Margo was back to bubbly as soon as her shoe touched down on the gravel, immediately excited when the smell of hay and the bleating of goats touched her ears.

she grabbed Ekaterina's hand at a speed she apparently wasn't ready for, jerking her forwards quickly as she tugged her through the gates of the petting farm.

Ekaterina barely had enough time to lock the car before she found herself being dragged across the parking lot.

"Oh lord."

The laugh escaped her before she could stop it.

Only moments ago Margo had been curled up in her lap, and now she was apparently on a mission to reach the goats before anyone else could.

The transformation was almost impressive.

"Slow down, angel," she called, though there wasn't much conviction behind the request as she allowed herself to be pulled along. "The goats are not going anywhere."

Still, she tightened her grip on Margo's hand and matched her pace, unable to stop smiling as she watched her practically vibrate with excitement.

The smell of hay, fresh grass, and farm animals filled the air as they passed through the gates, and Ekaterina found herself paying far more attention to Margo than to the attractions around them.

She looked happy.

Genuinely happy.

The kind of happiness that reached her eyes and brightened her entire face.

"I believe," Ekaterina said as they approached the first enclosure, "that I have made a terrible mistake."

Her expression was solemn for all of two seconds.

"I underestimated just how much competition I would have for your affection today."

A small herd of baby goats milled about only a few yards away.

Ekaterina sighed dramatically.

"I never stood a chance."

Margo let out a guttural giggle that would have made even the most cartoonish disney villain jealous.

"oh my god look at the sweet babies!!" she squealed, bending down as soon as she got into the first pen, "Ekatie!! Ekatie!!! Ekatie!!" she cheered, tugging her down to her knees beside her.

"oh my dear look at the sweethearts!!"

it was lucky that they arrived early, and on a weekday, the petting farm was nearly deserted. the herd of goats meandered over to the pair, the babies haphazardly trotting up behind their parents.

immediately when Margo was on the ground sitting, the goats began their friendly attack.

"oh my-" she chuckled, pulling her ponytail out of the mouths of two very pregnant momma goats.

the babies were already beginning their battles to see who could climb the highest on the two seated ladies.

"could you get me a brush for them my dear?" Margo asked Ekaterina, "i would but um..." she trailed off as she doubled over, a little brown and white baby goat was currently fighting his brother on who could get higher on her shoulders.

"i am currently climbing infrastructure."

The next hour passed in a blur of sunshine, hay, laughter, and entirely too many goats.

At some point, Ekaterina had acquired the brush Margo requested. At another, she had somehow become responsible for carrying feed, jackets, and various belongings while her girlfriend continued her campaign to be adopted by every animal on the property.

She didn't mind.

Not even a little.

The countryside had always appealed to her. The quiet. The open space. The absence of ringing phones and endless paperwork. But more than that, she loved watching Margo here.

Loved the way she laughed.

Loved the way she crouched down to greet every creature as though introducing herself to royalty.

Loved the way her entire face lit up whenever a particularly friendly goat decided she was worthy of attention.

It was impossible not to touch her.

Every few minutes Ekaterina found herself brushing a hand against her back, fixing a loose strand of hair, pressing a kiss to her temple, her cheek, her shoulder, whatever happened to be within reach. More than once Margo had caught her staring.

Ekaterina had not been embarrassed in the slightest.

By the time they reached another enclosure, she was seated on a wooden fence rail while Margo continued making friends with anything possessing four legs.

One hand remained hooked loosely around Margo's waist as though she might drift away if left unattended.

"I hope you realize," she said, leaning over to press a kiss against her cheek, "that I am being remarkably mature about all of this."

Another kiss.

"Most women would be devastated to discover they rank below goats in their girlfriend's list of priorities."

A third.

"Yet here I am, enduring it bravely."

Despite the complaint, her arm tightened around Margo's waist and she smiled into her hair.

The truth was obvious.

She wasn't jealous of the goats.

She was far too busy enjoying the sight of the woman she loved being this happy.

Margo smiled, making a silly mocking face back up to Ekaterina. "yes babe, so brave." she giggled.

she turned back to the rabbits that she was currently in a herd of, beginning to fake-talk to them again "well i know that she's planning to mount me like you little fluff balls do to each other later, so I'm just making sure to tease her well enough," she said matter-of-fact.

“she’s always so cute when i tease her, all that wanting just balls up in her and-” she poked the bunny’s cheeks, “poof, then I’m being ravaged until i can’t see straight.” she said with a giggle. She played with their ears and fed them lettuce, all while knowing that she had Ekaterina wrapped around her finger.

How could she have ever doubted her. Thought her words meant something different. This was her woman she was talking about. The same one who fought for her honour before even their first date. The same one who held her tight when most people ran.

Her Ekaterina.

“katie!” she sang, holding up a lop eared bunny who’s fur curled. “look!! she’s just like you!” she giggled. The rabbit was trying to gnaw on Margo’s hair. So she put her down in her lap quickly.

“oh I’m not your carrot. Where’s the dandelions we were given, lets get you something better to chew on, my sweetie,” Margo mumbled to herself with another giggle as she felt her hair getting brushed out of her face again by Kate.

The moment Margo began discussing her to the rabbits as though she weren't sitting three feet away, Ekaterina let out a long, suffering sigh.

"Unbelievable."

The complaint carried absolutely no weight behind it.

By now she had accepted that her girlfriend's favorite hobby appeared to be embarrassing her in front of innocent woodland creatures.

A few moments later she abandoned her place on the fence entirely and made her way over to where Margo sat among the rabbits.

Without ceremony, she settled herself behind her on the grass and immediately wrapped both arms around her waist.

"There."

Her chin found its familiar place on Margo's shoulder.

"Much better."

Ekaterina had long ago stopped pretending she wasn't constantly looking for excuses to touch her.

The countryside was lovely. The rabbits were adorable. The weather was perfect.

And yet somehow she found herself far more interested in the woman sitting in front of her.

A soft kiss found the side of Margo's neck.

Then another against her cheek.

"You know," she murmured, watching the rabbit continue its campaign against Margo's hair, "I am beginning to suspect you've been slandering me to the local wildlife."

Her arms tightened slightly around her.

"I should warn you that every rabbit, goat, and sheep on this property is receiving a very one-sided version of events."

A pause.

"Though I admit they seem rather fond of you, so perhaps my case is already lost."

Despite the teasing, she nuzzled a little closer into Margo's shoulder, content to simply hold her there while the rabbits hopped around their feet.

For someone who claimed to love the animals, Ekaterina was suspiciously focused on her girlfriend.

Margo leaned into Ekaterina's touch, letting herself be held gently as she held the bundles of fluff in her lap.

"whaaaaat?" Margo giggled. "i would never slander you, i am only merely explaining to the fluffle why you have been mentally undressing me this entire time. and being sexually driven is something they can in fact connect to is all!" she explained.

"well i have been known to be quite the disney princess. be glad there are no wild birds here or you would have lost me in a flock of hungry and loving pigeons." she joked.

she leaned back, letting herself fall softly back into Ekaterina's arms. the animals meandered around them, Margo fully accepting being a warm soft climbing frame for the critters.

she looked up at Ekaterina from her head's perch on the woman's thighs. for a second they were no longer in a petting zoo. for a second they were married and old at their own cottage. for a second Margo felt as at peace as she did on her grannie's farm. for a second the stress of work and the drama in her life melted away. for a second the possible sunburn was not the thing on her mind.

she watched the way curls framed her face, the way she looked at her with so much love and admiration. the warm summer air and the refreshing breeze. it felt like it was only them. Margo's face went blank.

"dearest, you must be so proud of me for not trying to mount you right here and now." she muttered.

Ekaterina’s eyes went slightly out of focus, her pupils dilating as she gazed at her girlfriend’s sweet, beautiful face, relaxed and serene with the first signs of arousal. One of her hands began to stroke her red hair, gently massaging her scalp.

“Believe me, I am, angel. If you carry on being such a sweetheart, perhaps you can drape my thighs over your shoulders like a medal.”

She smiled at her and winked, her free hand discreetly sliding down and beginning to gently massage one of Margo’s gorgeous breasts. “You’re a candy I simply can’t resist.”

Kate looked at her for a moment longer before leaning down, pressing her lips to hers in a slow kiss. The position was particularly awkward, but it was worth it considering how her heart was racing with her beneath her.

When Margo pulled away, she faked a scandalized expression. "my dearest, you mustn't touch me like that in way! not in front of the kids!" she joked, gesturing to the herd of goats.

"though, if you are... feeling this same way. i would not mind a trip to the washrooms to freshen up." she offered.

she knew the expression on Ekaterina's face like the back of her hand. she had seen it so many times. and to be truthful, the second Ekaterina's hand touched her breast, Margo wanted to ravage her right then and there.

though, for the sake of both of their professional lives, any public deeds needed to be at least a little hidden.

Ekaterina rolled her eyes, carefully lifting her girlfriend’s head from her lap before standing up and offering her hands to help her up. “Come on, sweetheart. I want my dessert before we go for lunch at that lovely country restaurant.”

As soon as Margo was on her feet, the lawyer wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close as she led the way through the country park. They passed a few families and other people on their way to the restaurant and the restrooms. The couple had to wait for a private restroom to become available.

The older woman slid her hand down to squeeze the redhead’s butt, leading her into one of the cubicles. With a playful smile, she watched her as she tied her hair into a ponytail, then stepped in beside her and closed the wooden door.

By the time they came out, about 30 minutes later, Kate had slightly grazed knees, a wet face and a couple of soft love bites on her neck.

She guided a disoriented and breathless Margo towards the washbasins so she could freshen up.

Margo was out of breath, red faced and quite embarrassed, though, hunger still burned in her.

it was less of desert, and more of an appetizer.

"must we have lunch? i'd rather just- take it to go- and head back to mine or yours." she huffed, stumbling a little as her legs were still jellied from pleasure.

she tried not to make eye contact with anyone as they exited the bathroom. they got a few disapproving stares from people as they left, but Ekaterina held her head high, so Margo felt okay about it.

"i just- oh my-" she whimpered.

Ekaterina still lead her to the lunch spot, no matter how much Margo whimpered and whined.

"Oh Ekatie u are in for it-" she grumbled as the brunette gave a squeeze to her butt as they stood in line for reservations.

Margo grumbled, taking her seat with a huff. though the phrase "good girl" stirred her insides to an annoying degree. she whined and shifted in her place, trying to get at least a little more friction.

"you are so mean to me." she huffed.

"if you wish," she responded, wishing more that they were at home taking pictures. she hadn't missed how the background of Ekaterina's phone was her in a rather revealing dress.

Currently all she wished was to go home and give her more pictures. showcase the bites and redness and blush that covered her. and maybe, since Ekaterina had been ever so mean to her, she would do the same. tease her a little.

"you surely will pay for this later."

Ekaterina let out a little giggle, leaning in to gently stroke her hair before giving her a slow kiss. She tenderly slipped her tongue between the redhead’s lips, savouring and savouring her taste.

After a while, she pulled away, brushing her nose against hers.

“I know, darling. You know full well I don’t say no to you without a reason.”

She sat up straight, glancing around for the waiter to bring the menu. She wrapped her arms around her girlfriend’s waist, still gently caressing her tummy.

“I want to talk to you about something, I’d say it’s lovely.”

The lawyer looked at Margo with loving eyes. “I want to tell you that being with you and being your girlfriend is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.”

Kate spoke softly, wanting to create a little intimate space even though they were still in the restaurant.

“You’re so sweet, so beautiful and kind; you’re the main reason for everything I do.”

She paused for a moment before continuing.

“I know your independence is important to you, and I don’t want to cast any doubt on my unconditional support for you. I know it might be too soon for us to move in together, so I wanted to let you know that… You know… If you’d like, you could bring some of your things to my place, something to make life easier for you when you stay over.”

Kate lowered her gaze, watching as her own fingers nervously fiddled with a ribbon on Margo’s dress. She found it rather difficult to speak so plainly about such crucial steps, so she felt a little shy before continuing.

“It… would really make me very happy if you had a little space of your own in my home.”

Margo paused, taking a moment to absorb what Ekaterina’s request truly meant. She wasn’t asking her to move in, and remove the only escape she ever got, no. Far from that, actually. She was requesting an allowance. Allowance to prepare a place for her. A place for her to feel welcomed, safe, comfortable. 

She was requesting to make accommodation, to give her a space so mornings after didn’t feel rushed. A place for Margo to keep some things for those lovely overnights that so often turned into weekends. So that staying over was not such a big fuss.

She was honoured that Ekaterina was respecting her so. Allowing her the space to still keep her hands on her independence. Not requesting cohabitation, something less yet more. Just space. 

“I would be honoured,” Margo spoke, the original spite from a half finished session having exited her voice. “Shall we get to that after this?” she asked her, gesturing to the restaurant around her. 

The waiter appeared, Margo ordering herself a spinach salad and leaving Ekaterina to her remarks to the waiter as well. 

Margo huffed, "I do wish they served cheesecake for lunch. I would destroy one at this moment if I was allowed,”

“Though, maybe as an apology for leaving me unsatisfied, a certain brunette would feel ever so inclined to picking one up from the bakery on the way to one of our homes?” she fluttered her eyelashes, leaning ever so much more on Ekaterina’s shoulder. If she was going to fondle her body and lovingly touch her as that way, she was sure as hell going to help the upkeep of such her figure, Margo giggled to herself. .

A warmth settled in Ekaterina's chest that had very little to do with the restaurant's atmosphere. She had wondered whether Margo would understand what she was trying to offer her. Not a demand. Not an expectation. Simply a place. A place where a toothbrush could stay, where a sweater wouldn't have to be carried back and forth, where waking up beside one another could become wonderfully ordinary. Her smile softened as she reached for Margo's hand beneath the table, brushing her thumb lazily across her knuckles.

"I was hoping you'd say yes."

There was a quiet sincerity in her voice.

"I don't want your independence, mon bien-aimé. I only want my home to feel a little more like yours whenever you choose to be there."

The waiter returned to take their order, and once he had left, Ekaterina couldn't help but laugh softly at the mention of cheesecake.

"Oh? So now you're attempting to negotiate dessert with those eyes?"

She tilted her head, studying Margo with exaggerated consideration.

"I'm a lawyer, angel. Emotional manipulation is supposed to work less effectively on me." A beat passed. "…Unfortunately, you've discovered my greatest professional weakness."

She leaned over, pressing a quick kiss against Margo's temple. "Of course we'll stop at the bakery." A mischievous smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"I'll buy you the largest slice they have, and if you still look at me like that afterward…" Her fingers gave Margo's hand a gentle squeeze. "I may even let you convince me to share it."

Her smile widened.

"Though I have a growing suspicion that you're less interested in the cheesecake than you are in discovering exactly how easily you can persuade me to spoil you."

She let out a little giggle, giving her that predatory look she knew would make Margo’s panties wet. “Or maybe because I’m so tempted to put some pastry cream on certain parts of your skin.”

It was a silly move, really, one moment she was turning to walk out of the bathroom and next she was on her rear with a bad pain in her arm and leg.

She held her head as the adrenaline rush took her, nearly passing out for what would have been a second time if only she had remembered the first.

"oh gods," she muttered, letting herself lay on the floor. Her hair sprawled out on the floor as she took a moment to access her own injuries.

no broken bones, no blood, just a bruised ego and a probably bruised Margo.

Ekaterina had been in the kitchen, quietly preparing dinner, the soft sizzle from the pan and the aroma of herbs filling the apartment.

Then came a heavy, unmistakable thud.

She frowned.

"Margo?" she called, turning toward the hallway. There was no answer.

Concern immediately replaced curiosity.

She wiped her hands on a kitchen towel and started walking toward the bathroom, her pace quickening with every silent second.

"My love?"

As soon as she reached the doorway, she caught sight of a pair of familiar, shoe-clad feet sticking out onto the floor.

Her stomach dropped.

"Margo!"

The towel slipped from her hands as she rushed over, dropping to her knees beside her girlfriend. "My love," she said, carrying her the last few steps to the sofa before lowering her with painstaking care onto the cushions, "please do not be silly."

Once Margo was settled comfortably, Ekaterina knelt in front of her. Both of her hands came up to cradle her cheeks, her thumbs brushing gently over the soft flush that embarrassment had painted there. She leaned forward and kissed her, slowly, sweetly, lingering just long enough to leave Margo smiling when she finally drew back.

"There is nothing to apologize for. You slipped. You frightened both of us for a moment, but you're here, you're talking to me, and that is all that matters."

A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"And as for this persistent concern of yours…" She gave Margo's nose the gentlest tap. "Do you truly think I spend all those hours working my ass at the gym for decorative purposes?"

A quiet laugh escaped her.

"I promise you, carrying my beautiful girlfriend a few meters to the sofa is hardly the greatest physical thing I've willingly subjected myself to."

She brushed another loose curl behind Margo's ear before standing.

"Now, stay exactly where you are."

A few moments later she returned with a generous glass of red wine, placing it carefully into Margo's hands before settling beside her. The aroma of dinner drifted lazily from the kitchen, where the pot continued simmering over low heat, filling the apartment with warmth.

Margo’s mary-janes clicked against the pavement as she pranced out to Ekaterina’s car, giddy as always when it came to seeing her beloved Belova.

As a compromise between owning a farm and owning a hoarde of pet rats, Ekaterina had proposed a date to the local petting zoo instead. Margo of course, jumped at the opportunity to be surrounded by little fluffy things that she could pet.

She flashed her biggest smile as she stepped into Ekaterina’s car, pulling her in for a kiss before she buckled herself in.

“oh my goodness you will need to pull me by the scruff of my neck out of the baby goats if you ever wish to see me again,” she ranted, staring blissfully out the window as Ekaterina pulled out from the curb. “when I was just a jeune fille my grannie brought me to her friend’s farm and i would always get to ride the horses and have all the little lambs and little chickens crowd me and oh it was so peaceful.”

Her expression softened into something sadder. “it was the most peace i got to have in those times.” she said softly, “thank you for agreeing to this. it... it means very much to me, my love.”

The kiss alone was enough to improve her entire morning.

"I suspected as much," she replied. "Which is precisely why I wore sensible shoes today. Someone will need to carry you back to the vehicle after you inevitably attempt to adopt half the zoo."

The panic in Margo's voice made Ekaterina immediately regret her choice of words.

"Angel, no," she said softly, squeezing her hand. "That isn't what I meant at all. I would never use something you entrusted to me against you. Especially not something like this."

A small frown settled on her face as she glanced briefly toward Margo before returning her attention to the road.

"What I meant is that now I know another important memories for you. I know what peace looks like for you. I know why animals make you light up the way they do. I know why those memories matter."

Her expression softened.

"And now that I know, I get to remember it."

For a moment she was quiet.

"Do you remember when I told you that one day I'd like to buy a few acres somewhere? A little farm. A house in the countryside. Entirely too many animals."

A small smile tugged at her lips.

"I wasn't joking, mon bien-aimé. So when I said I intended to use that information against you, what I meant was that you've just given me another reason to imagine that future."

"i apologize, i do hope i did not ruin the mood of our date," she said shyly.

she still looked forward to the animals, and possibly, for some time to herself with just the lovely lady beside her.

A small smile appeared as she carefully pulled the car over to the side of the road and shifted it into park.

“The date is still happening. The goats are still waiting for you. I am still very much looking forward to spending the afternoon with you.”

After a moment, she adjusted her seat farther back before patting her lap twice.

The gesture was unmistakable.

“Come here, my butterfly.”

Her smile softened.

“I think you've spent quite enough time worrying for one morning.”

Margo was confused at first, carefully climbing over the centre console before softly putting her knee on the seat between Ekaterina's legs. she waited for a moment as Ekaterina closed the gap between them, pulling her into a soft hug and repositioning her as she did it. until Margo's thighs were on either side of hers. she held her close and whispered soft things into her ears until it was better.

Margo didn't want to leave. she was contented in the arms of her lover, but they couldn't stay on the side of the road forever.

Margo slowly climbed back into her seat, allowing Ekaterina to pull back into traffic. and in a few minutes, they were pulling into the parking lot, and paying their fare to get in.

Margo was back to bubbly as soon as her shoe touched down on the gravel, immediately excited when the smell of hay and the bleating of goats touched her ears.

she grabbed Ekaterina's hand at a speed she apparently wasn't ready for, jerking her forwards quickly as she tugged her through the gates of the petting farm.

Ekaterina barely had enough time to lock the car before she found herself being dragged across the parking lot.

"Oh lord."

The laugh escaped her before she could stop it.

Only moments ago Margo had been curled up in her lap, and now she was apparently on a mission to reach the goats before anyone else could.

The transformation was almost impressive.

"Slow down, angel," she called, though there wasn't much conviction behind the request as she allowed herself to be pulled along. "The goats are not going anywhere."

Still, she tightened her grip on Margo's hand and matched her pace, unable to stop smiling as she watched her practically vibrate with excitement.

The smell of hay, fresh grass, and farm animals filled the air as they passed through the gates, and Ekaterina found herself paying far more attention to Margo than to the attractions around them.

She looked happy.

Genuinely happy.

The kind of happiness that reached her eyes and brightened her entire face.

"I believe," Ekaterina said as they approached the first enclosure, "that I have made a terrible mistake."

Her expression was solemn for all of two seconds.

"I underestimated just how much competition I would have for your affection today."

A small herd of baby goats milled about only a few yards away.

"I never stood a chance."

"oh my dear look at the sweethearts!!"

it was lucky that they arrived early, and on a weekday, the petting farm was nearly deserted. the herd of goats meandered over to the pair, the babies haphazardly trotting up behind their parents.

immediately when Margo was on the ground sitting, the goats began their friendly attack.

"oh my-" she chuckled, pulling her ponytail out of the mouths of two very pregnant momma goats.

the babies were already beginning their battles to see who could climb the highest on the two seated ladies.

"could you get me a brush for them my dear?" Margo asked Ekaterina, "i would but um..." she trailed off as she doubled over, a little brown and white baby goat was currently fighting his brother on who could get higher on her shoulders.

"i am currently climbing infrastructure."

The next hour passed in a blur of sunshine, hay, laughter, and entirely too many goats.

At some point, Ekaterina had acquired the brush Margo requested. At another, she had somehow become responsible for carrying feed, jackets, and various belongings while her girlfriend continued her campaign to be adopted by every animal on the property.

She didn't mind.

Not even a little.

The countryside had always appealed to her. The quiet. The open space. The absence of ringing phones and endless paperwork. But more than that, she loved watching Margo here.

Loved the way she laughed.

Loved the way she crouched down to greet every creature as though introducing herself to royalty.

Loved the way her entire face lit up whenever a particularly friendly goat decided she was worthy of attention.

It was impossible not to touch her.

Every few minutes Ekaterina found herself brushing a hand against her back, fixing a loose strand of hair, pressing a kiss to her temple, her cheek, her shoulder, whatever happened to be within reach. More than once Margo had caught her staring.

By the time they reached another enclosure, she was seated on a wooden fence rail while Margo continued making friends with anything possessing four legs.

"I hope you realize," she said, leaning over to press a kiss against her cheek, "that I am being remarkably mature about all of this."

Another kiss.

The truth was obvious.

“she’s always so cute when i tease her, all that wanting just balls up in her and-” she poked the bunny’s cheeks, “poof, then I’m being ravaged until i can’t see straight.” she said with a giggle. She played with their ears and fed them lettuce, all while knowing that she had Ekaterina wrapped around her finger.

How could she have ever doubted her. Thought her words meant something different. This was her woman she was talking about. The same one who fought for her honour before even their first date. The same one who held her tight when most people ran.

“katie!” she sang, holding up a lop eared bunny who’s fur curled. “look!! she’s just like you!” she giggled. The rabbit was trying to gnaw on Margo’s hair. So she put her down in her lap quickly.

“oh I’m not your carrot. Where’s the dandelions we were given, lets get you something better to chew on, my sweetie,” Margo mumbled to herself with another giggle as she felt her hair getting brushed out of her face again by Kate.

The countryside was lovely. The rabbits were adorable. The weather was perfect.
