This is the work of Sarah Eisenlohr who creates surreal collages that transport us to a bizarre world that we could almost believe is real.
Here are a few questions that I asked her -
Describe your work in three words
mountains, spirituality, surreal
Where do you find the content for your collages?
Vintage magazines
What inspires you?
Mountain ranges, the Bible, floral imagery, current events in my life
What are you favourite subjects to create collages of?
Lately, I've been inspired by flowers and plant life, but in general I like to work with landscapes.
What do you like about collage compared to working with other mediums?
Collage involves searching for the material, sorting through it, and pairing complimentary images together. I graduated with a BFA in painting and have found that it takes a lot of dedication and patience to work with oil paint and understand its process. I originally intended to create a series of paintings for my Senior show but I ended up working with collage because I loved the tactility of holding images rather than painting them and also discovering new ways in which the images can be used and work in harmony together.
