got a new tune stuck in my head, itās pretty great
one day mumās going to ask me what iām humming, though, and i have no idea how sheāll react if i tell her the truth
ok so, nostalgia time
there was this one toy line from snapblocks i was really into when i was 2-3
it was about these robots on this island, right? only they were magic robots with elemental powers and magic masks, from six different elemental tribes. and there were a bunch of villagers whoād been fighting off this evil shadow guy for a thousand years, and then these heroes arrive who are prophesied to defeat the evil guy and wake up this good god-type guy the evil guy betrayed and sent into a deep slumber, but first they have to collect a bunch of masks of power that let them do things like make magic barriers or run really fast or breathe underwater.
and despite all toy linesā stories basically being a bonus to the toys, this toy line had a really detailed one with books and comics and a few movies that went in all sorts of directions and it was great, and culminated in the evil shadow guy taking over a giant robot body that most of the cast lived in, and then the god-type guy got anotherĀ giant robot body and they fought it out and it was awesome.
itās a lot more complicated than that, the big final battle comes after a lot of stuff, the toy line lasted two and a half years before getting canceled (probably because the plot got too big and convoluted), and it was really great for a while there. there was an attempted reboot last year but it only lasted two seasons. the fanmade [wiki] for both is here, if anyone wants to check it out on the strength of my semi-coherent ramble.
anyway, iām going to go read fanfic now, the nostalgia is overpowering.
well thatās on my notes now
āinternalized green supremacyā, uh-huh
Feel free to come kick my ass if this offends you, but why are yāall constantly having an identity crisis over whether youāre bargain greens or fancy purples lol

now see, i knew that post was a bad idea because my therapist says i should avoid online drama for my mental health and sheās not wrong
buuuut i knew what i was walking into when i vagueblogged. basically dad thinks the evaleen reds should be shot and i think they were pushed into a desperate situation and nobody understands that incentives apply to reds too.
I think that both you and your dad are right. Incentives apply to reds, too; they were pushed into a desperate situation and that makes their actions understandable.
But them being subject to incentives doesnāt change the blues also being subject to incentives. Give into a threat like this once, and you have created an incentive to threaten you to get what you want. Give into it only for extreme stakes, and you have created an incentive to make you face extreme stakes. (And the stakes here are extreme; lose a bunch of blue children, and also have their country follow in the footsteps of Biyan. Thereās no way they manage to prevent a mass suicide when this fails.)
This is something thatās covered heavily in politics-track blue school, a bit in green econ and poli-sci advanced tracks, and basically nowhere else. Itās the next-level incentive view; you have to control the incentives that you allow other people to create for you. There is a story, usually told to young blues with delusions of grandeur - not a rare breed, obviously - who are sure of their cause and willing to raise the stakes with every contest and force their opponents to blink first, right up to the brink of biowarfare and annihilation. They are taught how to lose. Sometimes you have to sayĀ āYou have threatened the thing I care about most in the entire world, but to give in now would mean that it would never be safe.ā And then you sacrifice it, retaliate, suffer, and move on.
The only way to protect their children, in other words, would be for those blues to be the kind of people who would never, ever give in to a threat on their children. They must know how and when to cut their losses, so that forcing them to do it is never fruitful.
hm
yeah, maybe
itās just an awful situation

Incentives apply to red people, which is why itās so important that we donāt allow this plan to succeed. If this plan succeeds then it will incentivize other red people to kidnap children to obtain what they want. Quite possibly it will incentivize non-red people to do the same; red people are not the only ones with a deeply-felt political agenda, though theyāre probably the most cohesive.
hm.
hmmm.
itās a shame that i canāt think of anything more coherent and rigorous thanĀ āyouāre wrongā, because iād hate to look stupid in front of a green.
how about this: it was probably an insane, high-risk plan, and just because it succeeded once doesnāt mean itāll succeed again, and incentives are complicatedĀ and children are very dearly heldĀ so. i think this was a desperate measure for desperate times and thereās a lot of behind-the-scenes that we arenāt seeing, becauseĀ itās completely crazy and cruel to use kids as hostages.
what the behind-the-scenes stuff is, i donāt know and donāt expect to find out. i know hardly anything about evalee and even less about how evaleen reds are treated (ābetter than rivikni, presumablyā), but i know it would take something pretty desperate and wanting something more than iāve wanted anythingĀ (and iām counting how i feel about babies in spring here) to kidnap kids for ransom.
maybe instead of reds being incentivized to kidnap more kids, blues will be incentivized to clean more reds. who knows. youāre the crazy eaglefish-problem caste-splitter green, i donāt even know why i effortposted for you.

at least iām pretty low-key with my everything, and iām a Known Anxious, so me trying very hard not to say anything while dad Talked About Recent Events just looked like me being awkward instead of me disagreeing with him very strongly
wheeeeeee
i hope this all gets resolved soon
we got a bunch of photoreactive ink in the other week that gets lighter with sun exposure and holy fuck are we busy
i had no idea that was a thing until today
