Size: ~ 63mm x 89mm

Total in possession (as of writing): 57 pieces (Aero: 11 + 6 duplicates; Pyro: 9 + 2 duplicates; Terra: 11 + 8 duplicates; Aqua: 8 + 2 duplicates).

Earliest Memory: I still remember well when my father, during his monthly days off, brought home two pouches of Ovaltine (one for us and the other for my grandparents. I was ecstatic with the freebies but was disappointed when I saw that the two pouches contained the same three cards: Aero Speeder, Pyro Chaxtu and Terra Stuxta.

Brief Description: Freebies from Ovaltine Chocolate Drink Powder (Philippines). You can get 3 cards for every purchase of the regular-sized pouch.

The cards depict cyborgs grouped into four factions representing the elements: Aero/Air, Pyro/Fire, Terra/Earth and Aqua/Water. These cyborgs apparently held headquarters at Cybertek (as seen on the Aero Grayfon card).

Front Face: The front face of the card displays the name on top with the team insignia on either side (à la Transformers). The insignia also always appears marked on the character’s body. Below that is the character’s picture and on the bottom are the Ovaltine CyberQuest logo and the character stats (Energy, Armor, Speed, Agility and Intelligence).

Rear Face: The back part is a simple gray design with the Ovaltine and CyberQuest logos printed on the center and the four faction signs placed on the corners.

Special Cards: There are apparently special cards where the borders are colored gold instead of the regular gray (I own two pieces).

Milkmaid Condensed Milk Label

Earliest memory: About 1993

Salvaged in: 2016

The Milkmaid label design that I came to love. I think this is the most iconic for the brand, iconic in the sense like Starbucks’ 1992 logo.

I pushed my mom for a couple of years to find this particular piece from her old recipe clippings that I am sure was stacked away in some nameless plastic bag inside another plastic bag inside a box. Finally in 2016 I did find it myself bundled with old Del Monte Pineapple Juice labels. I have been looking for this exact piece not only for the nostalgia but also for the leche flan (creme caramel) recipe at the back which I was able to taste personally during one of our trips to Bulacan.

My tales about this dessert was a factor that encouraged one of my close friends to launch her own leche flan business (the poster I designed for the venture can be seen below). The recipe was modified, of course.

I have 2 pieces Milkmaid labels in my possession, the other one with a different recipe. Both are incomplete due to haphazard clipping.

People Power Transistor Radio

First memory: Early 90s, as far back as I can remember

A transistor radio with white paint artwork depicting the events of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, the event that ultimately ended President Marcos’ reign and cemented Corazon Aquino’s place in Philippine History.

My father is a former soldier and this radio was a part of his holy trinity of devices along with his flashlight and his rifle. With a low power consumption, old flashlight batteries (Eveready; rechargeables uncommon in those days) can still go a long way inside the transistor.

My memories with this radio are almost always linked to depressing news in the AM channel: news of typhoons, assassinations and massacres. This is also where my father first heard the news about Mount Pinatubo’s eruption in 1991 before receiving orders of deployment as a rescuer (we were, and still are, living in Zambales).

Ultraseven Action Figure Box Details

Ultraseven action figure bought for me during our yearly trip to Manila. The action figure was made by a toy company named Yutaka, action figures notable for their odd elbow joints. The action figure has good weight for its size and the plastic is of great quality too. But the same could not be said on the paint job.

Ultraseven is number 2 of seven collectible action figures.

The collection features colorful characters like Mean Max (a captain), Dagger Dan, Lookout Larry, Timid Tim and others that have since been lost to memory.
