Georgian Carved Fede Ring

From the description: “Fede rings are traditionally betrothal rings with the design of clasped hands dating to the Romans. The central hard stone cameo set in what we call a collectors mount, features clasped hands in agate with two turquoise colored stones set on either end.One stone is Odontolite while the second stone is Persian turquoise. Odontolite is a very rare stone.Odontolite is a fossilized bone that has naturally been colored in the earth to a turquoise color. Under magnification, the stone shows striations similar to what you see in ivory.English in Origin. Circa 1820.“

From the description: “This ring, made circa 1800-1820, is particularly rare. It contains possibly a portrait of a lady wearing a bonnet and we believe it originates from France or Switzerland.”

Here’s some more from the Kate Greenaway series, the one on top being almost exactly the same I posted a while ago, offered on ebay.co.uk for £175.00. Bottom picture: I found another brooch on ebay, matching a pin I purchased three years ago! Obviously made by the same jeweller. Now they are reunited...

One of the most exciting pieces I have ever come across:  French, 43 mm, circa 1810

Description: An exceptional and extremely rare watch key with automaton "Pulcinella" Case: gold and polychrome enamel. Constructional theatre stage, Empire-style columns and pediment; articulated Punch figure (moved by a tiny lever at the back), background with enamelled countryside scene with a farmhouse at a river. Enamelled back, painting of a red open stage curtain and the weapons of Cupid, bow and arrow, in the centre.  Pulcinella is a classical character that originated in the commedia dell'arte of the 17th century and became a stock character in Neapolitan puppetry.  Illustrated and described in: "The Keys of Time" by Yves Droz, France 2012, p. 281-283. Cond.:  Case: very good.

Lately I bought the book “Das praktische Haushaltsbuch” on a fleamarket. It is a guidebook for freshly married couples with answers on every possible question that may or may not come up while getting along in their newly found household. It was both entertaining and shocking to read, as in times of mid century chic (which quite clearly defines a lot concerning lifestyle these days) the look on women was not quite so fast forward as the design. There is a whole chapter on the way a hard working woman should keep looking attractive for her husband and how to achieve this (wash her hair every 3-4 weeks!!)...

While doing research on the book I came across this incredible website: Wirtschaftswundermuseum. It offers thousands of pictures and advertisings from German 50′s and 60′s. Pictures above found also on this site: Frauenbild der 50er
