IM260 final thoughts

As this semester is coming to an end I am grateful for the things I have learned throughout this course. I am so happy that i have learned how to establish a professional presence online. I am also grateful for the fact that i got to learn how to write a solid research paper. I am glad to have been shown the thing of refworks. I also like that I made my own website. This could be helpful for making a thing of lesson plans. I can keep all my information in one are and can be thoroughly organized. I would recommend this course to everyone. I do like that it was mostly online. It gave me the chance to work at my own pace. It showed my things that i have never thought I would have done. I was never interested in Twitter or LinkedIn if it wasn’t for this course. I do not think i will continue to use them, but I am happy to see that I am capable of using them. The one thing i would change about this course is to have the modules locked until you finish the module that you are on. It can get overwhelming at times. All and all this was a great experience of learning more about making a professional presence online.

Twitter Reflection

In all honesty I forgot about this project for like a month and a half. I then added all the tweets in like a week period. I wish that I would have tweeted everyday for a semester. If I could go back that is what I would change. I enjoyed the learning about a new form of social media. I am happy that I got to learn how to make a professional present online. I also learned a few teachers profiles that gave me great ideas for my own classroom. I do not think I will continue the twitter page, I am glad to have gained the knowledge it has provided me with.

I built a LinkedIn page for myself. I am hoping that I added enough positive information online to make myself a great candidate for my future teaching career. I do not see the what LinkedIn had to do for an career in the education field. I do see that it would be helpful for business majors and marketing majors. I learned that you should always week current and that on a resume you should not add high school degree because if you are in college it is assumed that you obtained one. I never wrote a resume. I did learn how a good resume. This will follow me for the rest of my life.

Deforest

Technology went from the radio to a fully animated cell phone. It started slowly and moved it way to so many different things. It went from black and white pictures to colorful animations. Everything is at the tip of our fingers. We can find almost any information we want to find out about someone through the internet and social media sites. Now people are more cautious about what they put online. I know that most business look at peoples social media pages for when they can not decide on which candidate to hire. Technology has changed the way people do business. They can Skype for a conference call. They can send any document at a blink of an eye. Everything is so much easier now. That is way we have to be careful on what they post online.

Website Reflection

I am so happy that there wasn’t any coding. I used weebly. It made building the website super easy. I loved doing this project. It was way easier than I thought. I did procrastinate the assignment until the day before as usual. Even though I procrastinated I got it done in one afternoon. I liked that it was a way to thoroughly express all my finding in one area. Although I kept it all on one page. I did add a link to my paper though. It was as simple a few clicks of my mouse to add it. I tried to keep a pattern of color as yellow, orange and red. I wanted to keep pictures all school related. Some of the pictures were not as classroom related as I would have hoped. Over all I am happy with the outcome.

24 Hour Disconnect

Throughout my technology disconnect, I found that my phone and the radio was very hard to give up. I felt the need to check in with my mother and boyfriend after a long fifteen hour work day. I hated not listening to the radio or Pandora on my 20 min car ride to the fair and another 20 min car ride back. It was very quiet. I did not mind it in the morning. Given that I woke up brushed my hair and teeth, got dressed, and got into the car. I was not very awake for that car ride. Other than that my computer and television did not give me a hard time at all. My computer I only use for school related items. The television I typically watch Netflix on it and after a long day’s work all I wanted to do when I got home was to eat and go to bed. The most surprising thing was well nothing. I worked fifteen hours and slept six. That gives me twenty-one hours of being busy. That left me with three hours of open time. Given that 40 mins was driving, that left me with about two hours of free time. Making a quick meal of rice and veggies, took me about an hour. When my sister got home she gave me Jimmy Johns this took another 20 mins of my time. This left me about 30 mins of free time and frankly that went to showering and getting ready for bed. All in all the only people I think may have had a small problem with the disconnect was my boyfriend and mother because my nine hours shift turned into a 15 hour shift. They just wanted to make sure I wasn’t hurt. My twin sister, whom worked with me, messaged them and told them I was okay and not to wonder way I haven’t been home yet. This assignment was very eye opening about how much technology runs my life. I think I will be trying this again, on a day I am not so busy.

Website!

I am suppose to make a website that displays my findings from the survey and my paper. I am super excited to make one. I really hope I do not have to code anything for the site. I hope to learn how to create a fun simple site that is easy to navigate. I think I want to stick with vibrant colors and to make the page easy to follow.

Reflection of Survey and Infographic.

I have learned about what an infographic was. It is a way to show information that you have found. It reminded me of the posters I would make in high school or middle school. It had written words with charts and pictures. That was fun to make. It was an new way to show information that I have never heard of. I found that it was an easy way of displaying information. For my survey I was shocked to see that I got 133 responses. My main way of getting it out was through Facebook. Some of my results were all over the board while some where more than 55% of the same thing. I enjoyed all the results I got and to see all the different types of responses I got. I received a lot of responses from my peers. The most difficult thing I encountered was making my pie charts for my infographic. The sizes just weren’t matching up. I just wish i did not try and do it all in one day. I wish i would have split it up more.

Survey and Infographic?

Let’s start by asking what is an infographic? I do not know what this is. I hope to understand what an infographic is and how to use one. I know what a survey is so 50% of my knowledge of this assignment is there. My ideas on what this task will involve is taking a survey of some sort and organizing it into some sort of graph. This is what i get from the name. I do not think this assignment will be too bad. I have not looked at the assignment though. I am excited to learn bout what an infographic is. I am going into this assignment blind sorta speak, so we will see how this turns out.

Mind tools.

Intellectual thinking. mhmmm What is this? Now that information is just a few clicks away, we don’t take the time and to think about the why or the what or the who or the how of things.We do not challenge people to think deeper, to think harder. Our goal is to have people recite it back to us. Its not for them to understand. Like everyone knows that dogs bark, but why do they bark, what are they barking at, are they trying to communicate? Do you know the answer to this? Probably not. To promote a more meaningful way to help students think intellectually we should have teacher ask more in depth questions. We should have students really understand the meaning. We should promote creativity and acceptance of all ideas. People are not as curious as they use to be. We neto help them find that sense and just let them run with this.

Google. What is this?

Google,I have these symptoms what do i have? Google, when was the revolutionary war? Google, How do I tie a knot? Google, what does the fox say? All the information you find will be someone else’s opinion or things that have been cited by other people. They will lead you from page to page by using links. They will cite someone who cited it somewhere else. It s a big “book” of knowledge that is simply just a few finger taps away. Goggle has changed the way we do research, the way we learn, the way we see things. We use to do research by going to the library and finding books and using the card catalog. Now we can mind almost any book online or we can find articles related to the topic. We have lost the use of our memories. In my senior year of high school, I did a research paper on hurricanes. I googled and used search engines for my sources. I can not remember anything I wrote about. While I can remember a book I read in second grade or a chapter book I read in middle school. I think google is making us forget what we just learned because we can always just do a quick google search and find the information again.

Progress. What progress?

Apart from what I told my self what I was going to do, I procrastinated my research paper. I became frustrated when I could not find the sources I once used to start my outline of this paper. After this I found more articles and websites that I could use. To my surprise, they were way more interesting and easier to understand compared to the first set. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about integrating technology into the classroom. Over all I think my paper is going to turn out well. It way not be as long as I hoped or as scientific, but it gets my point across, that technology is helpful in the 21st century classrooms.

Research Topic. Oh, Research Topic.

I have always struggled with writing research papers. I am not to excited to be starting this one. Mostly because this will be about technology and I am not to familiar with technology. Knowing that it has to do with technology, I thought about what will give me the most usable knowledge in my life. Since I am going into the education field i wanted to relate it to that. Okay, my initial idea is , What technologies are in the classroom. I realized that this would not be a long research paper. Then i went to “ Does technology aid students in an elementary classroom”? I liked this idea. Okay, now the time comes to not allow myself to procrastinate and to stay focused on the assignment in front of me. My idea to do this will be set a time period each day for a week to find sources. One day to write an outline. Then three hours to sit and bust out my rough draft. Does technology aid students in an elementary classroom?

Twitter is a type of social media that I have not yet explored. I am excited to see how a twitter can affect me professionally. I hope to accomplish a feed that shows my interest in my major.I also hope to get ideas of how to keep up with technology in the classroom through Twitter. My initial idea on Twitter is that it is used for teenagers to talk about pointless things that are going on in their lives. 24 Technology Disconnect

I am about to start a 24 hour disconnect from technology of any sorts. To prepare myself for this disconnect, I am telling all my family and friends that I will not be able to be reached on Saturday. I have set myself with a full work schedule at the state fair this day. I will be working for nine hour this day. If you count the eight hours of sleep I plan I getting that leave me just nine hours to be tempted by technology. I think the most challenging part of my day will be what to do on my breaks at work. I also for see it being hard on me to not communicate with my boyfriend. It will also be difficult when I get home to not enjoy watching television with my family. The technology I feel will be the hardest to give up will be my phone. My daily routine starts out as checking Snapchat and Facebook for the first half hour when I get up. After that I turn on Pandora and listen to music as I get ready for my day. The music continues to be played while I walk to school. In class we are on our computers and I tend to go on my phone when my computer is in front of me. When I walk from class to class music is turned back on. Walking home or any car ride I have I listen to music. When I cook dinner either the noise of the television fills my ears or music does. I think being in silence will be difficult for me. This is why I am excited for the busy day at the fair I have. I will hear people talking and machines running and all the excited guest. The nine hours I am not working or sleeping I will struggle the most with. All and all I am kind of excited to see what a day without technology will bring me.

Hello all, I am Hannah Hadlich. I am currently going to Saint Cloud State University. I plan on majoring in Elementary Education. I am currently trying to decide on whether or not to minor in Special Education, I hope to figure this out shortly.
