Instrumentals in Motion: New Album Out Today!

I’m delighted to announce a brand new album, Instrumentals in Motion, out now on all streaming platforms, and available as a hi-res download on Bandcamp.

The album is the result of a renewed creative partnership nearly four decades in the making: back in the 1980s, I collaborated with Toronto-based guitarist Bob Moher on some instrumental music for CBC Radio. After losing touch for almost 40 years, we reconnected last year and began a new long-distance collaboration that has now taken shape as this 11-track album.

The project unfolded largely through the exchange of raw stems. Moher sent guitar and bass tracks from Toronto, which I then expanded, arranged, and mixed in my studio in Lion’s Head, Ontario. I layered an unusually wide palette of instruments onto these foundations, including my Yamaha CP-70 electric grand piano and Moog Claravox Centennial theremin, along with some vintage synthesizers formerly used by the band Genesis. I also incorporated virtual strings, wind instruments, drums, and percussion.

Although Bob provided the compositional foundation, I also contributed several earlier piano compositions of my own, to which Bob added guitar, bass, and mandolin, completing the reciprocal nature of the collaboration.

Despite a brief in-person session in August 2025, Instrumentals in Motion is primarily a remote production—proof that distance need not limit musical conversation. The album moves fluidly across a wide range of styles, touching on Baroque, jazz, blues, rock, and New Age influences, unified by melodic focus and richly eclectic arrangements.

More than a genre exercise, the record documents the rediscovery of a shared musical language and the deepening of a creative friendship, revisited and reimagined after many years apart.

My appearance on CBC Radio’s Ontario Morning program today, discussing my new album collaboration with Toronto musician Bob Moher, Instrumentals in Motion.

Bob and I originally met back in the 1980s when we worked together on some instrumental library music cues for CBC Radio, interestingly enough, so it was fitting to have our new collaboration almost 40 years later featured on air!

Host Ramraajh Sharvendiran featured several tracks from the album, including my composition Montparnasse, which Bob added mandolin and bass parts to (not included here to avoid a copyright strike).
