Feeling the need to point out that you can like adoptive incest ships/nsfw but be icked out by blood-related incest, and it doesn’t mean that you’re an idiot who doesn’t see adoptive families as real.

The "man-child" description (accompanied by always portraying Jason as much older than he should be) is so particularly grating because it pulls double duty of denying him his youth while also being sure to deny him any sense of maturity. Anything to make sure Jason comes across as poorly as possible.

It’s especially aggravating because it paints Bruce as the aggrieved woman being victimized by an entitled chud, when Bruce-man is the furthest thing from that. BRUCE is the creepy weirdo who overreaches bc he feels like he has the right to tell people what to do and how to be. BRUCE is the old man who’s still mentally stuck at 8 years old, taking it out on the world and taking it out on young girls specifically.

People are entitled to have expectations of those who claim authority (what Batman does) and children most especially are entitled to have expectations of their parents!!

Real talk: If Jason survived in that poll do you think he would have been 'forced into retirement' a different way and replaced by Tim or do you think they'd have a retcon where the incident changed his personality (again) to make him more like Tim? (He was only in that position because the writers hated him. He was not making it out intact let alone getting a writer who liked him and wanted to continue his story.)

I think they would've had him "learn his lesson" and then he would've been allowed to be Robin again. I think it's likely he would've been given the push that Tim got later on as an answer to spiderman.

ao3 tagging isn’t always intuitive and some tags are highly subjective but some are really really not. If I see “mutual baby trapping” I’m expecting two people in a situationship who’d rather engage in absurd manipulations and shenanigans to obtain a baby rather than communicate clearly “hey I want to be serious with you”; if they’re *already talking about marriage and kids* then it’s not babytrapping. If I see Underage I am expecting at least one Mrated scene with a minor, not “two teens kiss but don’t even get to second base”. If I see the big Rape/Noncon tag and then the authors note says “the Rape tag is cause they have sex while A is slightly drunk” then I am backing out of the fic and never trusting your tagging again!

Like! Tagging is for two populations—the people who explicitly want to see X and the people who explicitly don’t want to see X—and neither population is served by overtagging! If there was a fic tagged, idk, “Swedish Politics” because in one throwaway line someone mentions Sweden has political parties, I’d be upset if I was looking for Swedish Politics and this was all that came up. And I’d be just as upset if I was filtering out fics with Swedish Politics and missed the perfect fic that was overtagged!

Unless I missed an issue or something, I'm kinda shocked that post No Man's Land we never got a scene to the effect of: Barbara: "Hey dad." Comissioner Gordon: (quietly) "Keep smiling, stay calm, move slowly for the door." Barbara: "What?! Dad's what's wrong?" Comissioner Gordon: "Don't freak out, but David Cain's daughter is toasting a bagel in your kitchen."

I will forever maintain that Steph didn't fail at being Robin because she was bad at her job. She failed at being Robin because Batman didn't want her to be Robin.

Steph was a great vigilante as Spoiler, but a Robin's role isn't just to be a vigilante. A Robin's role, first and foremost, is to be Batman's sidekick. And if Batman doesn't really want you for the job, it doesn't matter how good you are at it, you will never be good enough for him.

It was pretty explicitly clear that Batman took her on in part because he was hoping to tempt Tim out of retirement. Batman wanted to work with Tim still, and no matter what Steph did, she wasn't Tim, she was her own person.

Yes, Steph made mistakes, because she was a teenager, but no mistake she made was worse than anything Dick, Tim or Jason had done (it's worth noting that Batman had previously wanted Steph to stop being a vigilante because he saw too many similarities to Jason and was worried that she would get hurt or killed, so it does make sense that he'd have less leniency for Steph than he'd had for Jason). Disobeying Batman's orders in order to save him, the thing she got fired for, is something they must all have done at least once.

Honestly, I'd argue that Steph didn't fail at being Robin at all. She was a great Robin, but she was fired before she really got a chance to prove herself.

Jason would show up the coroner’s office one night asking for an autopsy and the poor doctor would oblige bc they’ve heard enough horror stories to know that you don’t deny a ghost their requests out of hand.

jason’s post crisis origin is so good because at the end of the day. bruce went to crime alley to grieve on his parents’ 25th death anniversary -> got his tires stolen -> got called a big boob -> laughed -> eventually gained a son

While Jason's pre-Crisis origin was designed to evoke and tie in to Dick's history, I think it makes sense to change his backstory to instead tie into Bruce's, who Jason interacts with much more. And Jason's role as a force for change and hope and belief is embodied by the way he can change a place of nothing but tragedy to Bruce into something he can find joy in. However difficult or traumatic our histories are, we can always grow and find happiness again.
