Giving a small nod to him thanking her, she knew that deep down it was going to take a few talking to with her boss, but she was also one of the best they had in their office. Her boss truly owed her one for taking the cases that no one ever wanted. “You’re not like your dad, Colt. You’ll never be like him. We’re not our parents. You told me that so many times and it’s true. You’re going to be an amazing dad to this little nugget and you’re probably going to spoil it more than I will. Just like you spoil me. Just let’s pray it gets your eyes and your height. Pray,” she said dramatically. “I’ll be reading books, too, don’t worry. I may work with kids, but a newborn is a rare case and babies make me really nervous,” she admitted, herself, giving a small shrug. Giving a smile as she went on her toes to kiss him, Cami slowly pulled away with a nod. “I love you so much. You’re going to be an amazing daddy.”
As they walked downstairs, the petite woman smiled as she saw the teen, looking up at Colton. “Eat away. Trust me, it will be nice to have normal food with someone when this one is training,” she pointed at Colt. Walking towards him, she went on her toes to hug to teenager, pulling away with a smile. “Welcome. I love hugging people, so you might have to learn to get used to that. And you probably met Charlie, he’s right by your feet, hoping you will drop something for him. We’ll help you out. Promise. We both were in your shoes once, and I know trusting people can be hard, but I promise that I’ll help you. And I don’t break my promises. Ask Colton. I promised to not be a know it all at Jeopardy, and I stay quiet just for him.”
The teen was reluctant to hug back, standing up to allow Cami to wrap her arms around him but not returning the favor. “Thanks, Ms. Reeves.” He muttered under his breath, sitting back down on the stool and returning to the smorgasbord of food he had in front of him. Not only did he have trouble believing her, but he questioned why either of them wanted to help him in the first place. He’d been in the system long enough to know the way it worked, so he was just gonna enjoy the food and fancy house while he had the chance - knowing it wouldn’t last long.
“She keeps her promises.” Colton backed her up. “She stays quiet during Jeopardy, unless you count her mouthing all the answers under her breath to herself as making noise. Cause that she does.” He said teasingly, trying to make this as lighthearted as possible. Colton tried to put himself in Liam’s shoes, not just the part of it he knew of, but the position he was in now. When he was a teenager he was so destructive, if someone tried to do what he and Cami were trying to now, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. “We both spent some time in the system, I wasn’t kidding about that. We know what it’s like. We’re not looking at you as a charity case. We really wanna help.”
