IPFW rarely closes its campus due to weather. Unless you see or hear a specific announcement that IPFW is closed and classes are canceled, you should assume that the campus is open with classes running at normal times. When possible, closings for adverse weather are announced by 6:00 a.m. for daytime classes and 3:00 p.m. for evening classes. Announcements are made: - Via text, voice and e-mail messaged from the IPFW Emergency Notification System - Via weather closing announcement on Fort Wayne radio and television stations - On the recorded IPFW weather emergency phone lines (260-281-6050 / 260-481-5770) - Through IPFW’s official social media outlets on Facebook (ipfw.edu/fb) and Twitter (ipfw.edu/twitter) - Through the IPFW website at Students should also check BlackBoard to see if individual professors / instructors have canceled class. In weather situations, always consider your individual circumstance for safe travel to and from the campus.

Internet Outage

Three bundles of fiber optic cables were cut during a construction operation in Lafayette, IN, taking down Internet access for IPFW and other state institutions in the northern half of Indiana during the afternoon on 11/9/15 through the early morning of 11/10/15. If after a weather-related absence, you think a course attendance policy has treated you unfairly, first talk to me or the instructor involved. If you think I or another instructor has treated you unfairly because of your absence, then I would recommend that you contact the chair of the department. If I cannot travel safely to campus, or if there is a concern about whether a number of students will be able to return safely from campus due to weather, I will make a determination about whether to hold class. I only will communicate a class cancellation, so if there is no announcement, assume that there will be a class meeting and then decide if you can safely travel to campus. If I need to cancel class, I will communicate that decision as soon as possible, and ideally, no later than an hour before class time. Please keep in mind, however, that some weather situations may demand a last-minute decision. If I cancel a class *I* teach, I will notify you via email using the address on record with IPFW and on Blackboard. I also will notify the department secretaries and the department chair. 2015 Science and Society at IPFW (SASI) event

Please read the following message from the Science and Society at IPFW Executive Committee: On November 14 from 11 am – 3 pm, our campus will present Science and Society at IPFW (SASI), a one-day event that will provide students and faculty the opportunity to share their research, creative endeavors, and teaching with the IPFW community and the larger northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio communities. Participants will be invited to present their work in a poster session and share with visitors and colleagues how they see their work in relation to notions of science and impact they believe their work has on society. The event is open to all campus community members. Additionally, those that wish to open up their labs or classrooms in order to provide demonstrations or showcase resources are also encouraged to participate. The planning committee is seeking faculty, students, departments, Centers of Excellence, programs, and colleges as partners in this event.
