I am beyond happy to announce that the Student Veterans Organization (SVO) at CSUSB has been officially chartered on campus and I will be serving as the SVO President. Our goal will be to engage, educate and inspire student veterans, spouses and dependents to reach their full potential to achieve success in higher education. I have some big shoes to fill but you should all know me well enough to know I’m always up for a challenge. We have some funds for club but if anyone is interested in donating to this amazing club, let me know and give you info on how to do that. After 20 years, and what seems like 2 lifetimes, I decided to go back and finish my bachelors degree at Cal Poly Pomona. Not gonna lie, these last 2 years have been extremely tough, especially during the pandemic, but with the encouragement of my family and friends, I did it. I ACTUALLY DID IT!!!! My journey however doesn’t stop here. I’m happy to announce I’ve been accepted into a Masters program at CSUSB to achieve my goal of becoming a counselor so that I can continue working with and advocating for military veterans especially those going back to college. THANK YOU to everyone who even when I stayed quiet on social media, would reach out to see how I was doing and kept my mind and spirit strong. Today marks 3 years since my mom graduated to Heaven and not a day goes by that I don’t think of her, even it’s just for a couple seconds. She always finds ways to show me she’s still with me especially at our special time. Aye ama, you were always a trickster. I take comfort in knowing that she’d be so proud of what my sister and I have been doing and I only hope we can continue spreading her joy, words of wisdom and love! This will always be one of my favorite pics. This is “Los Regulators” enjoying our traditional victory cigars after another safe fire mission. Today would’ve been my moms 71st birthday but God had bigger plans for her. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about her even for a few seconds. She wasn’t just my mom, she was my pastor, counselor, biggest supporter but more than that, she was one of my best friends. I’m grateful for that beautiful bond I shared with her. Sure we had our arguments over the years but I did get my stubbornness from her. Lol!
