Here's a comic I made a long time ago and never published. The text is from the introduction to A New Queer Agenda by Joseph N. DeFilippis.
Dr. Kortney Ryan Ziegler: I had to take a break from social media because it was starting to hurt my feelings. It's easy to forget that people don't go to social media to discover groundbreaking new work-
Me: No, they go to social media to look at cat pictures.
I could just write "lose weight" on an index card and save myself a the trouble of visiting a doctor if that's the only advice you have for me.
#bittermuch?
Last one for a while. Made it a while ago, not sure how I forgot to put it up.
This concludes my 3 part series. Unfortunately, I never got around to finishing it, but I think you get the idea.
Part II of "Why I Dropped Out of Art School"
Something about being close to my boyfriend tells my body it's time to go to sleep.
Also, he dyed his hair.
I just started a new job and didn't have time to make a new comic this week, so here's an oldie but goodie. I made this back in 2006, shortly after I dropped out of art school. I originally went to art school to do comics, but dropped out after only one semester. Fun fact: You don't need to go to art school to do comics. Save your money!
Part of 1 of 3.
Something about my eyes seems to suggest it's his fault. It's not.
Influences
My influences include, in no particular order:
David Rees (Get Your War On)
I appreciate his absurdist sense of humor. I'm not sure why clip art screaming at each other is so funny, but his work cracks me up. Some of it is more dark than funny. Fair warning.
Jaime Hernandez (Love and Rockets)
Jaime is my biggest influence, hands down. I love his artwork, I love the stories, I love the way he tells them: the well-developed characters, the non-linear narrative structure. In Love and Rockets, he's created a world so real it feels like you could live there, in part by sticking to the same characters for 30 years. If that's not love, then I don't know what is.
Alison Bechdel (Dykes to Watch Our For)
I think she was one of the first out lesbian comics. Her work is political, her characters are diverse in race and gender. She shows that the queer community is not monolithic, it includes trans folks, bisexual folks, etc. Also, she's really handsome. I did not realize how handsome she was. She looks like if Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper had a baby.
Becky Cloonan (Jennie One)
As you can see, I'm drawn to black and white work with a strong graphic quality: bold lines and solid shapes. I love the fearlessness of Becky's brushstrokes. And this character's un-fuck-withable attitude.
My boyfriend is getting fuzzy.
This happens at least once a week. I'm not proud of it.
I'm lucky my boss @channingkennedy has a sense of humor.
One of many reasons we don't go out much.
I was a little nervous about spending Christmas with my partner's family.
