Loki wasn’t tortured tho?
Loki was working with Thanos not for Thanos.
They clearly had a deal like Thanos did with Ronan.
Loki actually brought everything bad that happened to him on himself because he’s a pissy baby that couldn’t accept the fact that he wasn’t the first born.
Nebula was kidnapped.
Nebula was actually abused by her adoptive father figure.
Nebula actually didn’t have a choice in all the bad things that happened to her.
I honestly don’t see her relating with Loki at all
If anything she has more in common with Bucky in that they weren’t given a choice, they were forced to become killers and now they have the chance to break free of that mold.
But really we shouldn’t be equating Nebula to other male characters because she’s interesting enough without having to have a male’s name attached to hers.
But Nebula did have a choice.
Gamora herself proves that. Gamora chose to do good, to help the universe.
Nebula chose to help Ronan destroy the universe for her own revenge. (Which wow, that sounds very familiar. Almost like a choice that a certain other character made once upon a time, but I won’t go there. XD)
This is what is so fascinating about her character, that it contrasts to Gamora so heavily, that one daughter came out more or less sane and the other came out so differently.
Nebula chose to kill, to destroy, to stay rotten. She was under no spell or brainwashing because she so easily joined forces with Ronan. Even after leaving Ronan and being free from any outside influence, she still killed.
So if it’s true that Bucky had no choice, then (as fandom so fervently insists) Bucky and Nebula can’t be compared at all.
When I say Nebula didn’t have a choice I refer to the terrible crap she endured before Gamora actually extended her hand and asked for her to join them.
And then I say she now has a chance to break free of the mold of being a killer because when she finally made a choice she chose herself. She chose to leave the fight altogether instead of pick sides which i think makes perfect sense considering it’s implied that Gamora never once mentioned this grand betrayal plan of Thanos to Nebula and literally left her on the Dark Aster with Ronan. Couple this with Nebula’s obvious survival instinct she was more than likely not sure which side would win and went with plan c. ESCAPE.
So yeah her siding with Ronan was purely survival imo, and it really wasn’t much of a choice if you ask me. It was either side with Ronan then or die by staying loyal to to Thanos. So I really can’t accept that Nebula had a choice to do good in that moment.
Gamora was the favored child, she did not get the brunt of Thanos ire the same way Nebula did. That’s still not a comparison to Loki in my opinion it’s just playing on the old favorite child/least favorite child trope. If you look at Nebula’s upbringing in comparison to Loki who was raised as a prince, cared for as a prince, loved by his adoptive parents as if he were their own, and despite all this he chose to betray his family of his own free will without anyone holding the proverbial gun to his head. There is no substantial comparison to really link them together in my opinion.
I will say that I partially agree that Nebula could have chosen to betray Thanos sooner as well, but chose to play the role of dutiful daughter because that had a higher chance of survival. That does make her an interesting opposite to Gamora for the movies, and I still hope that they take her in perhaps an anti hero sort of direction.
