A different kind of battle (starter/Haruki)
Naoto frowned, scolding herself for losing focus at such a key time as she input the key sequence that would allow Siren to get up from the ground. If something like that had happened out in War Time, she would have been lost for sure, letting the World Allied Forces - letting Haruki - down. Â To have that was unacceptable.
"No, Iâm fine," she responded, not looking up from the device in her hand. "I simply got lost in thought, and it showed. My apologies, Izumo-senpai. It wonât happen again."
While frustrated at the fact it had happened at all, she was grateful that it occurred at a safe time. Testing Sirenâs range of mobility to see if the recent damage had impaired it at all with one hand, the girl looked up at her captain. âLBX truly are amazing, arenât they?â
Haruki watched the small robot get to its feet before focusing back on Naoto. The girl's eyes seemed fixed on her CCM as she apologised.
"Don't worry too much about it." Haruki responds, a little worried that she was being too harsh on herself. It wouldn't do to have her dissuade herself before War Time, especially with such talent!
Naoto's next comment took Haruki slightly by surprise, especially after she was just so distracted. Perhaps that was what she was thinking about
Haruki nodded. "Yeah. Even LBX with the same frame can be so differentâŠ" He looked down at the two in the diorama. Of course, their frame was different, but apart from the fact that both of them were LBX there were no similarities at all. He never really took the time to appreciate the diversity between the different types of hobby robots.
Returning to the topic of battle, he started speaking once more. "If you're distracted, we can stop battling for now. I don't mind continuing if you're still eager to practice, though."

The vampire takes a deep breath in, and lifts his head up to take a peek to see who is coming to his aid. Blue inform, and yellow tie. The one he shares as well; interesting! So, at least, they share one thing in common, right? Thatâs a bit relieving, maybe. Azusa lets out a breathy chuckle before the dark-haired teen arrives, and begins to help the vampire up.
âAlrightâŠ? IâŠâ He mumbles, his voice trails off for a moment as the human tries to support the boy, âAre⊠You helping meâŠ?â Azusa hums lowly. His eyes look down at the ground, then up at the boy- only to get a better look at the face that is kind enough to help someone who had âfallenâ so easily.
Then, Azusa lifts up an arm. The cuff of his uniform slides down to reveal the bandages that the cloth was covering. He lifts up a hand slowly, and points to the inside of his hand, âIt seems⊠I cut myself hereâŠâ Though, there is no visible cut, he reaches forward with the same hand, and begins to slice the skin with a sharp nail of his, âAh⊠It⊠HurtsâŠâ He chuckles once more.
âYou⊠Weâre the same, rightâŠ?â He asks, hinting the matching uniforms. The nail, it digs deeper into the cut, âThereâs blood seeping outâŠâ He turns his attention to the boy trying to support him. The desperate, grey eyes look right into his green ones. Even if he seemed hopeless, there is a glint of⊠Amusement in his eyes⊠The smile of his features seemed more pleasured more than anything. Yet, blood continues to seep out of the newly made wound, and dirty the bandages that are already wrapped around his the tiny wrist. Â
The boy's question seemed odd. Was he not expecting anyone to help It made Haruki question whether he'd had bad experiences in the past. He attempted to join the relationship between the unusual question and the visible scars and bandages all over the boy's skin, quickly deciding that it wasn't his place to jump to conclusions and putting that train of thought to one side as he continued helping the fallen Jenokian, who continued speaking quietly as Haruki supported him.
As the boy lifted up his arm, Haruki noticed more bandages that weren't previously visible. Just how many injuries did this boy haveâŠ.? As he was thinking, the dark-haired boy brought his hand to his wrist and pushed his sharp nail into his skin. It was quite shocking to Haruki to see him injure himself so openly. Was that why he had so many bandagesâŠ?Â
The other boy's expression seemed unusually pleased, whereas Haruki's own was full of concern. Upon noticing his nail digging in further, Haruki moved himself and the boy slightly so that Azusa was able to be supported by one arm, using his other hand to take gentle but firm hold of his wrist, stopping him from driving the nails of that hand any further into the cut.
"I think we might be in the same platoon, but please try not to injure yourself any more." Haruki began, shifting Azusa's weight a little more, but carefully so as not to accidentally cause any more injuries. He nodded towards the stained bandages. "Can you stand up? I'll take you to the health room, and we can get more bandages to replace thoseâŠ"
why this(closed/kou)
Having been perfectly at ease before the other male waltzed in and decided to disrupt the peace, Kou found himself rather irritated. Heâd made a mess, had he? Was that the point of all this passive aggressive thudding of books back into place? It was just a few things, really! Some stuff heâd picked up and looked at and tossed down once he deduced them to be boring. No big deal!
Still, he decided to start off nicely. No point in making a bad impression straight away, right? He allowed himself to watch the movements, blue eye darting to the neck of the male for a brief time before moving on. âWoah, whatâs with all the noise, huh? Are you some kind of neat freak~? So~rry! I was just having a look around andâehh?â Pick things up? Why? Why should he have to do that?
âI thinkâŠyou are perfectly capable of doing that yourself. It was what you were doing just now, wasnât it? So you can do it the rest of the way if it bothers you so much, canât you? Arenât I right? For your sake, I hope so.â And. Flip!
âWah, but we have to introduce ourselves! Having roommates is so exciting~ Iâve never done it before. I hope we can get along~⊠Heeey, hey, tell me your name first!âHe was sitting up on his bed now, waiting expectantly.Â
Surely the other boy harboured some kind of respect for their room. Anticipating him to pick something up, the dark-haired boy moved a little further into the room. Perhaps he had been a little harsh to his new roommate? The state of the room had just irked him, that's all.
Still, it didn't seem like Kou was being any less rude. In fact, perhaps more so. Haruki wasn't a neat freak (at least he was fairly sure he wasn't) and the blonde's apology had a touch of sarcasm. On top of that, was he insinuating that Haruki should pick up everything that wasn't his, even though he'd made sure the room was neat before?
Haruki sighed, and turned to look at the room, turning back only when he noticed Kou speaking again. His tone this time was different than before; he seemed harsher, more intimidating. Or was that just Haruki's imagination? He decided to pay no mind to the unusual manner of speaking.
"I apologise, but I don't think it's really fairâŠ." he trailed off as Kou made his request heard. "Ah, I'm Izumo Haruki. I'll be your roommate and platoon leader from now on."
why this(closed/kou)
Haruki had just returned to his room in the evening, and upon opening the door he promptly stumbled over some textbooks scattered across the floor. It looked as if someone had tossed various belongings across the room or simply discarded them from where they stood, seen as a lot of the abandoned objects were littered around his roommate's desk. The room was clean when he left, so it could have only been Kou... No-one else could have gotten into the room.
The offender was sitting on the bed on one side of the room. Haruki took another look at the state of the once-clean dorm room and sighed, picking up the textbooks at his feet and moving to drop them onto Kou's desk, frustrated at having to pick his way around clothes and other seemingly random belongings of the older boy's. He didn't appreciate having to live in a room filled with things left lying around by someone else. The books made a sound as they hit the surface of the desk, and Haruki turned to his roommate, folding his arms and looking at him with harsh green eyes before speaking.Â
"Can you pick some of your things up?" He questioned calmly without raising his voice, while gesturing to the various objects flung around the room. "This room was clean before I left, and you have the other key, so I'm assuming these are yours."
A different kind of battle (starter/Haruki)
Who knows, perhaps Naoto could even help the other members of the World Allied Forces train new recruits at this rate. Maybe she would suggest it later, after more new players joined, though part of her hoped that some of those newcomers would be mechanics, since they seemed to be in such short supply.
As Trivhine ascended to the cliff, she couldnât help but pause in awe of itâs mobility despite itâs bulk and size. This would sadly be her undoing, as it wasnât until after the Wild Frame began to shoot that she spurred Siren in to action.
Thinking ahead made quite the difference, as she would have moved the moment she saw Harukiâs LBX prepare to fire had she not stopped to admire the diversity of the hobby toys, whereas now the young detective was hardly even avoiding having the shots nip at Sirenâs heels.Â
Regardless of Naotoâs efforts to work herself back in to the groove she had fallen out of the moment she lost her focus, it was proving to be much harder than expected when there was a rain of enemy fire to avoid.
Just when she thought she might have been in the clear, the Strider-Frameâs leg was caught by a projectile that had been hidden from her by one before it and was thrown to the artificial ground like it had been not very long ago.
At least she knew how to get up this time.
As Haruki fired, he noticed that Naoto wasn't paying as much attention to the action as usual. Her reaction seemed a little delayed than it had been before. Still, her reactions were fast; she was still managing to dodge the shots he'd fired, even if it was only just.
Seeing her still able to avoid the small projectiles, Haruki decided to reposition Trivhine and take aim in order to shoot again as soon as she'd finished dodging. That would give her enough time to prepare, but of course he had to be careful in case she had Siren move further forward...
The considerations and calculations were put on hold as Siren toppled to the ground, and Haruki lowered his CCM a little. She should be able to get up this time, anyway.
"Shirogane-senpai," he begins, slightly concerned, "Is something wrong?" It wasn't a particularly specific question, but one he felt necessary to ask nonetheless. It would be hard to cope with repeats of this situation when it really mattered.
"If we need to get anything sorted out, we should do it before War Time. Everything becomes far more serious as soon as it starts, so it's important to make sure you're prepared for anything."
have a nice trip // open
Is this it? The academy⊠Kou said he would be here⊠He thinks. If he remembers correctly. Why did he leave so suddenly though? Weird. Yet, he decides to follow, and now here he is. He finds himself in the middle of a hallway in the school. Is this the right place? He isnât sure. A small frown is shown on his features as dull eyes look left, then right. The halls were rather festive, to fit the current holiday that is just right around the corner. How intriguing.
He walks forward, continuing to look around to find someone- anyone. He picks up his pace, faster, faster⊠And just when he spots someone, he speaks up, âHey. YouâŠâ He says lightly, ah, it looks like they didnât notice, âHey..! Wa-â And with that he trips, and falls to the ground against the wooden floor; a thump his heard with the contact.
A hand clutches to the chest, he grips the cloth of the uniform, he grits his teeth âHahh⊠Itâs hard to breathe⊠You.. Help me⊠PleaseâŠâ
A thump caught Haruki's attention, and he turned to notice a student - a fellow Jenokian, at that - collapsed on the floor behind him. He'd started towards the older boy as soon as he saw him, hearing his quiet pleas only as he drew closer. This couldn't possibly be the mechanic that was just recruited for his own platoon
Kneeling next to him, Haruki tried to support the older boy as best as he could, trying to take some of his weight without injuring him further than he already seemed to be. He couldn't help but notice the scars and bandages scattered across the boy's body, but noted with a hint of concern that no injuries seemed to be new or the cause of the boy's collapse;he turned his priorities to finding out why the new student had fallen so suddenly in the hallway.
"Hey, are you all right?" Haruki questioned, nervous that his attempts were injuring the student. "Are you hurt? What happened?"
A different kind of battle (starter/Haruki)
The longer the two Jenokians continued to battle, the more Naoto found herself falling in to a rather comfortable rhythm. Hopefully the chaos of War time would be just as easy to settle in to, even if she had to be even more on guard.Â
Her expression was unchanging for the most part, though her eyes were constantly moving - from her CCM, to the battle going on within the diorama, and occasionally up to Harukiâs face to gauge his reactions and meet his gaze. Only then would she break in to the smallest of smiles.
It lasted for only a moment, however. Just as quickly as it had happened, the detective returned her focus to the still ongoing practice match. Noises from her CCM signaled Sirenâs next moves, and sure enough the lithe little robot complied by weaving around the shots as best as it could (a very close call) before continuing on to circle around Trivhine while returning fire.
If she was smart, perhaps she could drive the Wild Frame in to a corner much like it had done to her before. Of course it would be hard to do, the green LBX looked like it was built to take hits, but she was determined. Â If things were like this when fighting against one another, one could only imagine what it would be like once they were finally working together.
The battle between the two was continuing at a good pace, and Haruki was looking forward to working with Naoto. Even if his allies were new to operating LBX, if even just a few showed as much promise as Naoto, they would surely stand a chance against Seledy.
As Siren weaved around the shots and returned some in Trivhine's direction, Haruki anticipated that perhaps Naoto was trying to use Siren's speed to drive Trivhine back, or simply to deliver shots so quickly that it couldn't dodge. Haruki commanded his unit to move away from the Strider frame. The robot complied by dodging the shots Siren was sending out before taking a few jumps to reach a small cliff; far enough for Naoto to have to think up a new technique, but not so far that he couldn't see (and shoot at) Siren.
The two looked at each other, a brief pause in the battle. The break lasted only a second and Haruki turned back to the diorama as he gave Trivhine some more commands.
A flurry of fast shots were delivered, Trivhine standing strong, and Haruki was confident that Trivhine's incredible aim would challenge Naoto. Judging by the robots' current positioning, it would take Naoto a while to move Siren well enough to take a shot, so Haruki took the opportunity by flooding the area with shots to test her reflexes.
A different kind of battle (starter/Haruki)
Having given time to prepare beforehand, avoiding the single shot was a simple task. Taking things a step further, Naoto was sure to put additional distance between the two robots. She remained quiet and focused, being sure to keep her breathing in check to keep herself from getting too excited. A level head was important in these situations.
Following commands, Siren brandished itâs weapon and fired off two shots in Trivhineâs direction. Practice should not have just been limited to her, after all. Keeping oneâs skills sharp was vital, falling behind on them even the slightest bit could make a big impact on future battles. A game of tag using guns, and both of them were âitâ. There was enough to it that it could go on for some time, though it was likely to end if a few more hits landed, particularly on Siren.
It was such a shame that such an enjoyable game had become the medium to fight such harsh battles with, with such young soldiers taking part. Maybe one of these days she would tell them stories of previous battles she had once participated in herself, rife with murder and mystery. Nobody would believe the part about being thrown in to a television set, though.
Once all of this nonsense with the World Savers was sorted out, Naoto would be sure to pick up an LBX for personal use and seek Haruki out once more to battle. Not as training soldiers, but as friends playing a game.
A swift dodge, and the shot from Trivhine went sailing past Siren. Naoto's LBX, following the dodge, leaped back further, putting more distance between the two. Haruki looked up, and admired how focused the older girl seemed.
As soon as he looked down, Siren had its weapon in a position to fire, and a moment later two small shots flew through the air towards Trivhine. The larger LBX was a lot less elegant than Siren as it moved forwards, just avoiding the two shots that came without warning. Haruki was more than a little relieved. It wouldn't be good if he failed to dodge such shots in front of his new platoonmate, after all! However, he was prepared for additional fire by now, and he fully expected it, judging by Siren's position.
With Trivhine now slightly closer to Siren, Haruki commanded his LBX to fire three times towards the Strider frame. Surely, it would increase the difficulty if he were to increase the number of shots. Following that, he moved Trivhine back further. Knowing the frame of the LBX well by now, it wasn't reasonable to assume he would be able to dodge shots from a closer range (although they probably wouldn't damage the sturdy green unit too much should he fail to do so), so he gave himself some space, watching Siren closely as the shots flew towards it.
A different kind of battle (starter/Haruki)
Just as she was about to resign herself to her embarrassment - not only had she messed up in front of her superior, but said mistake was broadcasted for everyone to see thanks to Seledyâs surveillance cameras - Naoto looked up from her CCM once more to witness Haruki showing the proper combination needed to get Siren up off of the ground.
Taking a moment to let the sequence settle in to her memory, she repeats the motions and as expected, the small robot that had been pitifully flailing about was now back on itâs feet. It would have been easy for the platoon leader to have left her to figure it out on her own - she wouldnât have been too long - yet he had shown her kindness once again, and Naoto was grateful.
"We should work on it as soon as we can," she started. "If something like that were to happen in War Time, it could be quite the problem." Even now, she was going about things with a soldierâs point of view. Haruki wouldnât be able to show her what to do if a muck up like this happened out on the battlefield.
The commanderâs remarks did not go over her head, either, and they certainly didnât help the light blush leave her face. âThank you, Izumo-senpai. Iâm know that this raw talent will be refined with help from you and the others, and Iâm looking forward to it.â
Having spoken her thoughts, Naoto input a few experimental commands in to her CCM to check out if Sirenâs mobility had been affected by the shot. It wasnât too bad, still workable. Eager to improve, she looked up to Haruki once more. âWould you like to continue?â
Haruki looked pleased as Siren regained its footing. Smoothly, as well; it seemed as if Naoto had committed the sequence to memory almost instantly.
The girl's response indicated that she was keen to improve, and Haruki was not one to deny someone so keen to learn. As a platoon leader, and a commander, it was natural for him to feel obligated to take charge and help the new players learn.
"If you're willing to keep going, then let's practice avoiding some shots now." he says, green eyes fixed on his LBX as he keys in some more commands. "I'll start aiming directly at Siren, so it's important that you do your best to dodge." Of course, it wouldn't be any good practice for avoiding shots if they weren't aimed at the Strider framed LBX in the first place.
Leaving Naoto a few seconds to prepare before attempting to shoot, Haruki positioned Trivhine at a fair distance from Siren, in the open so as not to risk grazing the back of the unit like he had done before. He looked up to his training partner. It looked like she was still a little red in the face. Was she really that embarassed by such a mistake Ah, she seemed calmer than before, in any case. That was a good sign.
The dark-haired boy decided that perhaps now would be a good time to start, and he nodded in the direction of his opponent as he commanded Trivhine to take a single shot from one of its shoulder cannons, aiming to hit Siren directly. He waits in anticipation, not doubting Naoto's ability, and waiting for Siren's move.
A different kind of battle (starter/Haruki)
It wasnât quite the crash she had hoped for, but it was still beneficial to have Trivhine cornered. Now if only there was a method to keep it that way! Perhaps she could utilize the cliffside like Haruki had done before? No, a landslide would do too much damage, she felt. Break-overs were to be avoided right now.
The girlâs eyes widened slightly, impressed with how sharp Harukiâs reflexes were, before flicking down to her CCM to input more commands. However, her proficiency with the assigned LBX wasnât quite enough to have it turn on a dime and avoid the shot, and Naoto let out a small gasp as she watched Siren get thrown out of momentum and crash to the ground.
A simple enough fix! Or at least it should have been. It would seem that her beginnerâs luck had run out, as the directions that were relayed to the fallen LBX caused an erratic movement of limbs there were not quite coordinated enough to lift itself up off of the ground.Â
Oh, no. Light colour flooded the detectiveâs face, who was feeling quite embarrassed by the whole ordeal. She had been doing so well so far! Why did she have to mess up now, when Haruki was looking at her in such a motivating way?
She paused her endeavors just long enough to lift the brim of her hat and give the commander an apologetic look from underneath it before speaking. âJust a moment, please. I seem to be having a bit of trouble.â As if he couldnât already see that.
Haruki could see Naoto contemplating her next move, and the reflexes she showed while trying to avoid Trivhine's shot were admirable. Unfortunately, it seemed the beginner was still lacking a little practice in the dodging department, and the not-so-elegant little robot fell to the ground, having been clipped on one side by Trivhine's shot. That was something they could work on, at leastâŠ.
As Naoto continued to struggle with her LBX, Haruki tried to determine which commands she was giving. Judging from the patterns of Siren's futile movements to regain itself, she was pretty close to figuring it out. The boy contemplated letting her continue struggling with the controls, but figured it might be easier (and kinder, seeing her become more and more flustered) to tell her and let her get used to the combination with time.
He turned around his own CCM so that the control pad was facing the older girl, ignoring Trivhine and Siren for the time being. Using his left hand, he pointed out the short string of buttons she needed to press to have Siren back on its feet clearly, using the buttons on his CCM as a visual aid.
"Siren didn't take much damage, so you can probably get back up like this." he says mid-gesture, not trying to hide the smile on his face. "We might need to work on that dodge later."
Oops. Perhaps he'd made it a little more difficult than he'd intended. That still didn't change the fact that Naoto was doing incredibly well, and he took the brief pause in the action to compliment her performance. "You were doing well, though! You're quite a natural at this."
"Oh." Einamu nodded in interest. Well, at least there wasnât just one. Maybe he could try and ask for one to be put in his roomâŠ. That would sure be useful. He could practice all night and bother nobody - It wasnât as if he had a roommate. Unless he did. In which case, he hoped they could put up with it. Maybe LBXes wouldnât be too loud.
Folding his arms, he blinked up at the dorms and nodded. âAre they really that harmful? Like⊠are they really capable of burning the flesh off your hands?â If they were, Einamu really didnât see why they didnât just go up to the terrorist smurf and blast a little LBX gun at his face in the first place. Maybe that didnât work too well or something?
Observing the dorm in interest, he nodded. It looked surprisingly classy. The flora wasnât too badly-kept at all. All in all, it didnât look like too much of a painful place to live.
"Thank you." Einamu nodded, giving the other a slight smile. "âWhich floor is Room 300 onâŠ?"
"I'm quite certain LBX can cause more damage to a person than just that," Haruki replies, following Einamu's gaze and looking up at the dorms himself, "So don't risk it."
Of course, it wasn't a foreign concept for people to use the hobby robots to harm other people. Most LBX players knew this well, and restricted their battles to within dioramas.
Haruki turned as Einamu questioned him once again, shifting his weight and folding his arms.
"First floor." He replies, sighing a little, but still smiling. "I'm sure you'll be able to find your way there."
"How does it feel, sharing a room with a vampire?" Hikaru asked, a little bit curious.
"I don't think we've been rooming long enough for me to give a definite answer to that. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little concerned." Haruki sighs in reply.
