*Feeling something was off, Katrina stepped into her kitchen only to find the stack of pictures. She went over, silently flipping through them whilst trying to keep it neat, all the while a small smile slowly grew on her pale face*

It had been a peaceful day in sanctuary, until Ash arrived, and asked for Kat to see him. When she arrived at her home, she was greeted to Ash holding a squirming toddler that looked suspiciously like her eldest son.

She blinked a few times, taken aback by whatever the hell she was looking at. They couldn't be Harley, yet how did she recognize him so quickly? It shouldn't be possible yet....there he was

"A-Ash, tell me what I'm looking at because...what?"

Harley didn't quite get what she ment, having no recollection of his life at the moment, but he did appreciate the back rubs. Honestly, any affection was good affection to him in the moment

After awhile she ended up growing emotionally-exhausted enough to lay down, curling up while holding him. For the time being the tenno would be her teddy bear while Dogmeat stayed vigilant at the foot of the couch

It had been a peaceful day in sanctuary, until Ash arrived, and asked for Kat to see him. When she arrived at her home, she was greeted to Ash holding a squirming toddler that looked suspiciously like her eldest son.

She blinked a few times, taken aback by whatever the hell she was looking at. They couldn't be Harley, yet how did she recognize him so quickly? It shouldn't be possible yet....there he was

"A-Ash, tell me what I'm looking at because...what?"

"We don't know, all we know is that we woke up to him demanding food, and looking like this. We suspect void energy, but have no proof."

Ash carefully handed the child to her.

"It's too dangerous to keep him on the orbiter, and we can't contact the slayer, nor would it be safe leaving him with the man as demons don't discriminate and would kill the operator on sight. So while the Commonwealth is dangerous, it's the safest option."

Ash rubbed his face plate tiredly.

"Besides, You're his mother. You are probably the best person to care for him until we can fix it anyway."

She held him against her chest, arms wrapping around him protectively on instinct alone, and gave the frame an incredibly concerned look. She was trying her best already not to think about Shawn, or the asshole he became after being taken, but Ash could tell she was already struggling

"Katrina. Shawn wasn't your fault. You didn't have any hand in raising him after his first few months of life, and you know how Harley is when he's older. I doubt it will change with a temporary stay as a three year old."

Baby Harley obviously was confused with what was happening, but latched on to Kat once she held him close. It was almost desperate in a way.

She tucked his head into her shoulder and bounced him to get a better grip. To respond to Ash she just gave him a shaky nod and a just as shaky sigh trying to keep her own fears at bay

"You'll have Piper and myself. I'll be staying to help as the others try and figure out a solution."

He patted the woman's shoulder, a gesture of confidence in her.

"You're a component mother, you'll easily handle this."

The toddler in her arms gave Kat adoring eyes.

She nodded and went to go sit down with Harley, feeling a bit more secure on her couch even if it was in near ruin. This would be....interesting to say the least but she'd handle it, she had to

Once seated, the toddler looked around the room with a fist in his mouth. Spotting Dogmeat, he pointed at him excitedly.

"Puppy! A big puppy!"

Ash chuckled slightly and shook his head in amusement.

"Still loves animals it seems."

Almost immediately after being called by the small Tenno, Dogmeat bounded over and hopped onto the couch with them to investigate. Within seconds the German Shepherd's nose was going all over him in an attempt to see who he was

Harley giggled and reached out to the dog, he was surprisingly gentle for a toddler, and squealed in delight at the sniffing.

"Big Puppy is soft. I like big puppy!"

Upon recognizing his scent the dog cocked his head to the side in confusion, not remembering him being this small or high-pitched. Katrina herself simply sat there holding him, knowing Dogmeat would also be gentle enough to be allowed around Harley

The kiddo didn't seem to care, burying his chubby toddler hands in Dogmeat's fur. At the head tilt, the child giggled and clapped his hands.

"Puppy is silly! Silly puppy!"

Dogmeat have his little nose a big lick and lowered his head into his tiny lap, tail wagging happily despite being slightly confused

Another squeal of delight. He was happy to have the dog place his head in Harley's lap, the child happily petting the dogs ears.

It was odd to see Harley so carefree, but perhaps it was bet he didn't have years of terrible shit behind him.

Katrina continued to watch him in complete silence, not wanting to interrupt the first bit of genuine fun she's witnessed him have

Eventually Harley turned and gave Kat a large grin, and made grabby hands at her.

"Momma!"

Ash looked mildly amused that he remembered Kat, and the fact she was his mother. Of course, pictures had been taken, and Kat would receive them later.

For a moment Ash could see Katrina go through the human equivalent of a blue screen after hearing that before she wrapped Harley in a tight shaky hug

The kid latched onto her, snuggling into the hugs. The kid was touch starved that was for certain, and if Ash has a face that could he'd be frowning at that fact. But kiddo didn't notice, more interested in playing with Kat's hair.

She remained deathly silent, letting him do whatever as long as he stayed close. If Ash could see her face he would see tears of joy streaking down her cheeks but right now that didn't matter, only that she had Harley and everything would be ok

"why you crying momma? I do bad thing?"

The child had innocent look of concern as he tried to make Kat feel better.

She rested her forehead against his with a small smile, somewhat forced. She was feeling a lot of things at the moment, too many, but absolutely none of them were easy to stomach

Ash slipped out, leaving the two alone. And while the much younger version of her son didn't look convinced he was happy to bask in the feeling of being held.

Akira had seemed much happier now that he had his partner and fellow wildcard with him. "Gooorooo, put the work down and come play with me and mothman." The teen detective sighed but relented, and that's how Kat found them, playing a game with the persona.

She leaned against a nearby wall and just silently watched the three of them do their little thing. It wasn't everyday that she could see Akira of all people having a good time so she felt the need to just enjoy the view for a bit.
