I really can’t believe we all grew up together on this goddamn bitch of a website
I saw some weird ass conspiracy video thing today of like 'we were never meant to have access to yeast, that was cultivated in a lab and it harms us' bullshit and I was like well first off there's no such thing as 'meant to' and second of all um? the long history of acquiring yeast from beer foam stretching so far back ??????
....you can acquire yeast FROM THE AIR.
If you want to make sourdough started from scratch, the process is 'mix water, flour, and maybe sugar if you've got it, then WHIP IN AS MUCH AIR AS YOU CAN' and let it sit. And this works. Because there's yeast there. In the air.
Not only is there yeast in the air, it's on a bunch of fruits, too. Ever rubbed a blueberry, plum, or grape, and it was slightly darker underneath? That thin film is wild yeasts. There is also yeasts that live on human skin (and not just pathogenic ones!). We are never without yeasts.
You do not have access to yeast; yeast has access to you.
Been working on a new project that I would love to have more people check out! It's a mix between a recipe site and a blog. I will provide recipes on here and then write a research-based essay/report that talks about one of the ingredients or practices in depth! From teasing apart the history of an ingredient to doing a feminist critique of it! Would love feedback or advice on running something like this too :) My first full essay and recipe for coffee is up, and I'm working on the sugar research now! :)

The year is 3078, earth is now a barren wasteland, the oceans are boiling, and humanity has been completely wiped out.

I’m really curious what story elements Collins is going to introduce into Sunrise on the Reaping to make it feel unexpected. Because we already have arguably the most critical plot-points (Maysilee’s death, how Haymitch won, and the fact that his whole family and girlfriend were murdered by the Capitol). Obviously it’ll be interesting to see how those events unfold (especially the family situation), and to get Haymitch’s perspective of it. But it’ll be a very different experience from the other books because we do already know those very major events. So I’m curious what other major events will be introduced in the book to keep us on our toes.
my fav thing about sunrise on the reaping was when haymitch was like yeah caeser i'm a lone wolf 😏 i'm with the newcomers but i'm not WITH the newcomers, yknow? they call me a rascal. a rebel against the gamemasters. I scored a ONE and that is a THREAT. you do not want to mess with me 🙅
cut to him with like 20 kids following him around like ducklings, him hiding in his t-shirt, him letting a bunny guide him to safety because it reminded him of his girlfriend, and him making nightlights out of potatoes.
And if I said Mags was one of the most tragic characters in The Hunger Games? What then?
No but seriously this woman lived an entire lifetime with the cruelty of the Capitol and the games, watching as it twisted and changed and found new ways to torture the people of the districts. And for years and years, decade after decade, she mentored these kids (even ones not from her district). She cared for them and watched them die, over 100 kids.
And yet when we see her in Catching Fire she is still kind and capable of joy. She cares so much about not only Finnick but Katniss, who she’s only just met. And she is still fighting for the rebellion, hoping for a better future after 80 years.
And then she dies. She dies in the arena, sacrificing herself for the people she loves and for the hope of a brighter future. She dies in the arena, the very thing that has haunted her entire life, the thing that has stolen so much from her. And she dies without ever getting to see a future free from the Capitol and The Games.
Haymitch every reaping
haymitch saying “I don’t drink” hahaha so funny I have a gun in my mouth
beetee latier came up with one singular plan ever to defeat the hunger games and canonically tried to make it work TWICE despite the fact that it literally blew up in his face the first time.
this officially makes him the world’s most accurate fictional scientist because he HAS a favorite hypothesis that he IS going to make sure works even if it fucking kills him
gotta love Suzanne Collins' dedication to dropping a banger every few years, re-traumatizing a whole generation and disappearing back into the abyss without a single word
Katniss: Haymitch would be pissed off at me for taking a 12 year old as an ally
Meanwhile Haymitch in his own games: *has honor issues with bunnies because he considers them allies and they're the same colour as his girlfriend's name*
