Auctioning off Rene’s Changeling t-shirt:
A lot of people seemed to like the photo I posted yesterday of Rene wearing the Changeling t-shirt - so here’s the video of him with it, auctioning it off. Because the video was too long to post, this starts after he explains how he received it (the shirts were given to the cast by the DS9 crew at Christmas.) Yes, he will divest himself of it at the end. At one point, it seemed as if Andy was bidding $200 for it :-) - the actual winning bid was $300, btw. This is the same auction where Garak’s ridges went for $180 - I really think those were underpriced! Again, I’m sitting at the far left, dark vest with white sleeves.

Да, сегодня мог бы быть 86‑й день рождения замечательного актёра театра и кино. Прекрасного отца и мужа. Добродушного, отзывчивого человека, которого даже анонсировали в большинстве интервью как «его же все любят». Человека, который направлял большую долю своей известности, гонораров и творчества на благотворительность. Человека, который воплотил в жизнь самого многогранного, неоднозначного, таинственного, милого и абсолютно великолепного инопланетянина всей франшизы Star Trek!
ДА! Конечно, речь о Рене Обержонуа и о его Шефе Службы безопасности станции DS9, констебле Одо.
Кто ещё принадлежал к настолько же фантастически нереальной расе? Кто ещё был и взрослым, и, по сути, подростком одновременно? Кто настолько же душещипательно мучил зрителя своей безответной влюблённостью? Про кого ещё настолько глубоко и бессовестно недосказано в каноне? И про кого ещё настолько же настойчиво хочется продолжения, минимум сезона на три?
Да, актёра уже нет с нами, поэтому для меня сегодняшний день — день грусти и памяти. День, когда можно и нужно вспомнить его подход к профессии, его работы, его вклад в наш любимый вымышленный мир, продолжающий вдохновлять, учить, радовать всё новые и новые поколения фанатов…

This one gets me in the gut like . . . man fandom is such an important, intergral part of the internet and media that connects millions. Its really moving to see glimpses of its effects the ripples of it from the past. The importance of Star Trek can never be understated in fandom, it makes me so emotional to see this.
