(Hey, check out @threads-of-trust to see Ryan! Inbox here is still open, so feel free to send shit here as well!)
Ryan had spent the last couple days pretty much isolated. He just wanted to be alone for the time being. Besides that, it was basically life as usual.
Right now, he was in his bedroom planning to go take a short nap. Closing the blinds to his windows, he laid down in bed and just kinda stared at the ceiling as he waited to fall asleep.
And then the door slammed open, which made him shoot up.
"Ryan! There you are!" The redhead stood on the other end of the doorway, hands held behind her back as if she hadn't just thrown the door open.
"Almyra, what the fuck?! I'm trying to sleep! How did you even get in, anyway?" Ryan was, understandably, confused as fuck. And a little shaken, considering the door just flew open and slammed against the wall.
"Oh, I picked the lock!" Almyra gave a playful smile. "I may have picked up a few skills while you were gone. By the way, your lock is shit."
"Why is that important, though? You didn't have to break into my house. Could've just called me and said you were coming over."
"I did. Several times. Every time, it went to voicemail. You've never done that before. I got worried."
"...sorry. Life just seems to have it out for me lately."
"Don't apologize. I get it. Life just likes to hit you hard sometimes. You shouldn't have to go alone though. So you won't! I'm gonna stay here!"
"Wait, what-"

Ryan was expecting literally anything except what he just saw. Aditi? Running in a hospital gown? Something had to have happened. So, he called out to her. This was certainly going to be an awkward reunion. "Aditi? What's going on?" (@concealed-encryption, lemme join in on this lol-)
Aditi flinched at the sound of a familiar voice, turning around quickly. Her face gave away her deteriorating mental state pretty easily, with the glowing eyes and unnatural smile. “A-Aah.. what are you...? Why are you h-here?” She asked unsurely, taking some steps away from Ryan, despite her trust in him. It wasn’t him who she distrusted honestly. It was herself.
@concealed-encryption
"Oh, I was taking a stroll. Wanted some time to myself."
Ryan fixes his sleeves, tilting his head. The halo destabilizes for a moment, before fixing itself.
"What happened to you? Why are you feeding? Are...are those bandages around your neck?"
“What does it look like? Someone attempted to kill me, again. A shame it didn’t fall through this time around... ehe...” She laughs stiffly, trying to bite back the tears but they kept coming. Why couldn’t it have actually killed her? Why am I still here when so many others have died?
“Oh, shit. I, uh...damn. Sorry.”
Ryan rubs the back of his neck. The halo starts to lose structure again.
“...so, uh, are you going anywhere? You seemed to be in a rush.”
“.... Away. I’m going away. I don’t care where, just.. away. Until I can calm down. Everyone here is making it worse. They want to help but, they... they can’t understand.. they can’t..” She sighed, turning her back on Ryan. “I don’t believe you can either. Perhaps it is best if we part ways..”
"...no. Let's not."
Ryan's tone turns serious.
"You're right. I may not be able to understand. I know I don't understand everything you're going through. But...I can at least try. If you keep pushing people away when shit hits the fan, then no one will understand because you'll never give them the chance to. No one's going to 'get it' instantly. I know from experience. It takes time.
You don't have to fight these battles alone. In fact, you shouldn't. It's just gonna make everything worse. You have to talk about your problems. There's nothing wrong with venting. No one will hate you for talking about your problems. Trust me. I've had friends call me out of nowhere to do just that, and I don't think any less of them. The fact that they are comfortable with talking to me about such things shows they trust me, after all. I may not fully understand what they're going through, but I try my best.
And that's the thing. I don't have to fully understand. The fact that I try is all that matters. Why? It shows I care about them. I care about you, too. I know I'm not around as much as I could be, but I still do. It's why I'm trying to fix that issue. I want to be here for you. That way, you won't have to go through this alone. I know I don't yet understand what you're going through. I don't know if I will. I know I can try, though.
Is that alright with you?"
Aditi listened, and despite her instincts to push people away when she was in too much pain or feeding too much... she lacked the strength. Mentally. Physically, she could climb a mountain with no troubles. It made her body shake, by feeling the power of the despair, but having no method to release that energy. Slowly, she nodded. “.... I... a-alright. Come on. I don’t want to be near this hospital..” She began speed walking, not waiting for Ryan to catch up with her. She was hyper focused on escape, and stopping to show how she appreciated the speech wouldn’t help. She held the hospital rode tightly around her body, trying to remain as warm as possible. “Do you have any idea where we are... I can’t recognize any of these buildings?”
Ryan quickly followed Aditi when she started moving again, matching her pace.
"Yeah, I do. I live nearby, so I know the area. Why, are you going anywhere in particular?"
He took out his phone and quickly texted someone. Most likely a status update.
Ryan was expecting literally anything except what he just saw. Aditi? Running in a hospital gown? Something had to have happened. So, he called out to her. This was certainly going to be an awkward reunion. "Aditi? What's going on?" (@concealed-encryption, lemme join in on this lol-)

“...oh my, the dust here. How long has it been? I should clean up this place later.”
Footsteps are heard.
“It’s been a while since I’ve set foot here again. Still looks like how I left it. Hell, even the equipment is still here. Then again, no one except me knows about its existence. Now...time to catch up on all that I’ve missed.”
"Hmm...perhaps I should start using this more."
Ryan is holding a clear orb, made out of what seems to be glass.
"Will anyone remember, though? That is the question."

“…so, I guess I’m doing a second one of these. Makes sense, I have been gone for a few months. Wait, is the video even working?”
Footsteps. Then a groan.
“Shit, it’s not. Alright, let me fix this…”
Silence for a moment. Then, a mouse is clicked, and the static disappears.
“There we go. Anyways, where were we?”
More footsteps, and then the source of the voice appears on screen.
“Hello. Name’s Ryan Taln. Ultimate Cryptologist. Some people know me as Nihil. I’ve been here before, but had to leave for some time due to family business. And no, that does not mean I’m part of the mafia. My family just wanted me to stay for a bit. Anyways, you might notice I look different from the last time I’ve been here. Well, my sister made me a scarf and a new hoodie. Honestly, I didn’t even know she could make clothes.”
“Also, ignore this star halo thing. I don’t know why that’s there. It just is. It used to be a ring of stars around my hair, but apparently it decided to turn into a full-blown halo now. I’m completely human, not an angel at all. I just have this thing. Not sure how none of my family even noticed this to be honest.”
“Anyways, can I have a promo? Again?”

“Welcome back! How was the time with your family?”
“Hey Kaito. I’d say it was pretty good. Got to have some time to catch up on everything I missed while I was gone for seven years.”
Ryan tilts his head ever so slightly, like he’s noticed something.
“Say…this is the first time you’ve ever seen my face, right?”
“That’s good!”
*He smiled and nodded*
“Yea it is! It’s great to have a face to the name now!”
“Thanks.”
Ryan smiles back.
“So, what have you been up to, lately? I probably missed a lot, right?”
*He bounced slightly once he replied*
“Oh! I went to space! Was on the space station for a month! Uhhh- I didn’t really do much else myself though! Other than the same ol’ same ol’!”
“You did? Congratulations!”
Ryan clapped. Was it a little awkward? Maybe.
“How was it?”
“It was amazing! I was in space! We did cool experiments! And I got to see the stars way more often!”
*His bouncing continued- He was definitely excited talking about this*
“Sounds like you had a blast.”
Ryan chuckled at Kaito’s obvious energy. KInda reminds him of his sister.
“Anyways, uh, did anything special happen with Fay or her friends?”
“Hell yea I did!
Well that depends on what you mean by ‘Special’ to be honest- Also I don’t know when the last time you talked to them was! That might be a question best suited for asking one of them ya know?”
“It was…a few months ago, don’t know exactly. But yeah, good point. I’ll pay them a visit later.”
And then there’s some awkward silence.
…a lot of awkward silence.
Huh.. This didn’t happen often with Kaito around-
“So.. Whatcha wanna talk about now?”
"...uhh, no idea. I, umm..."
Ryan seemed to stare off into the distance, a hand to his chin. Some of the stars began to drift away from the halo shape above his head, and fell into his field of view. Of course, he swatted at them, and they floated back up to reform the halo.
"...it does that sometimes. Dunno why."

“…okay then.”
That was…a lot of people. All of which who seem to be around his age group. At least, that’s what I think. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Anyways, moving on! Normally, he’d try and pick someone to interact with, but with this large of a group, he decided to just let luck decide.
“Uhh, hi. I’m Ryan Taln. Technically the Ultimate Cryptologist.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Ryan. Forgive me for being brash but, how experienced are you in decrypting foreign languages?”
She opened the satchel that was drapped against her hip. Aside from the jingling and clanking of plastic against plastic, she pulled out an ipad.
“I have a set of text that I’ve been trying to decipher myself but I can’t exactly find a key for it. Nor do I really have the skills to do so, myself.”
“…if it uses the Latin alphabet, I’m good with it. Otherwise, not really.”
Ryan, truth be told, wasn’t really good with other languages other than English. He picked up a few during his job, but it decayed after he quit.
“I can still try, though. Let me see it.”
“Well. I found it in Africa. I can’t guarantee that it will be.”
She held the ipad out to him. On it was the image of a cavewall heavily decorated in foreign markings and images. By first glance, it looked like a jumbled mess. But the more one would look at it, the more they’d see the repeated patterns. Dot and images aligned against a dash, lines crossing each other in ways that could be described as language? And despite the obvious efforts someone took to light the entire wall, some parts were either too bright or too dim to read.
“There’s multiple pictures if needed. Whether or not you find something, I can give you something for your efforts.”
“…oh. Well then.”
This was, for lack of a better phrase, not what he signed up for.
“This is…not something I have any experience in. I’ll still give it a try, though.”
Ryan takes the ipad. The task laid in front if him was not something a cryptologist dealt with at all. This was translation, not decryption.
He would still give an attempt, though. He knew this was an ancient written language. He just needed some way to figure out what the context for this was. Find the context, and the meaning gets a whole lot easier to figure out.
Ryan takes a closer look at the images, since those would be the easiest to understand, and would probably give the most information.
The images were.. enigmatic. Some were outlines of what could have been caves, mountains or buildings. But most were completely arbitrary shapes with no true purpose to them. Were they a strange form of the already existing? Or were they new ones entirely?
Michiko had taken those pictures quite a long time ago, so at that point, she had memorized most, if not all, of the strange text. But, even just thinking about trying to figure out what anything meant gave her a headache. A sigh escaped her lips.
“It’s.. a pain.”
"I can tell."
Yeah, this was stumping Ryan as well. The images weren't giving any clues that he could pick up on. At least, not on their own.
And so, he turned his attention to the writing. If this was a language, then it had to correlate with the images somehow. Perhaps they were labels of some kind. Or perhaps it's a story of some kind, and the images are supposed to help visualize it. Who knows?
