If you read poetry and whatnot,
I'm over here
So, I wrote this poem for an amazing guy...
There are men built to break you,
men equipped to break down
that which holds your heart hostage,
and men who are broken.
I’m not quite sure which you are.
All I know is that you have the smile
of one whose rib cage has seen better days.
Brother, tell me. Who hurt you?
She had the walk of a hurricane,
carried thunder and storm clouds in her palm,
left your mind reeling like a New Orleans’ backroad.
Love ain’t always beautiful,
doesn’t always come packaged in daffodils and peonies.
Sometimes love looks more like
the jagged edges of the smile of a man
who has pushed pain up the roughside of life’s mountain,
a modern-day Sisyphus.
She walked into your life
when your world was a whisper,
made siren of your silent spaces.
Her mama ain’t teach her to love
and leave quietly.
You fell for her brokenness,
told her that her cracks were what made her beautiful,
tried to piece together lilies and lies
until they resembled something that looked
like love.
Love ain’t always beautiful.
Sometimes love looks like two a.m.
and tears and falling apart.
She was half woman, half walking away.
And after a handful of half-hearted tries,
goodbye became as inevitable as breathing.
She was the beam on which you measured
what you got versus what you deserved.
She was slick,
your serpent and your apple
and you be Eve,
sin smeared across your smile.
Sometimes love ain’t
always naked in the fig garden.
Sometimes love looks like
covering up your ugly places
while innocence spills at your feet.
Maybe you hadn’t seen enough.
Maybe she had seen too much.
She walked like a shot of vodka,
left with all your yesterdays in her purse
and some of your tomorrows if you look close enough.
I know she hurt you.
But even in the cracks that she left behind,
love will manage to find a way to slip through.
Love ain’t always perfect.
But she is relentless.
She will always find a way.

IVE BEEN WATCHING THIS FOR FIVE FUCKING MINUTES
what did she think would happen to her? Sigh. This is hilarious
I can't believe the number of children that go missing every year. Over 100,000. This world is full of sick and twisted individuals, I swear.
I'm glad they found Alexis and got her home safely

I hate that people feel they have to criticize/downplay Jennifer Lawrence's talent in order to big up Lupita Nyongo'o. Why can't they both be good? Kinda like the Kanye/Taylor Swift thing or Beyonce/Kelly or Lebron/Kobe or whatever whatever whatever.
I loved 12 Years a Slave and I think Lupita did an amazing job. Hopefully, she gets everything she deserves and then some.
My dreads a few months ago. They changed fast.

NO CHILL LMFAO ^
Calm down guys. It’s just a picture of new dreads and loose hair. It takes a while to lock up. It’s a process.
Your blatent cultural appropriation and disrespect now has your hair looking like a fucking rats nest with pencils and dust bunnies in it.
You got an ask telling you what the problem is, and you ignored it- classic caught white girl. “Its just a hairstyle I like!”
That shit is not doing it.
Reblogging this to explain why there are people of color upset about this hideous, hideous display:
I am a man of color who wears locs. My hair has been loc’d since 2005. It is clean, I maintain it monthly, moisturize it weekly and wash it as needed (this can be multiple times a month if I’m feeling athletic and trying to get my fitness on). It is loc’d to the root. I went through the early loc’ing phase when I was in college but AT NO POINT did it look dirty, unclean or unwashed.
DAILY I have people who try to connect the dots between my hair and my race and use that against me. I have people (COWORKERS) who’ve thought I was a drug dealer (I barely drink) and have people who classify me as a thug because of the way I wear the hair God gave me.
People (white) who come up to me and tell me how they”dreaded their hair for a few months but cut it out because it was so dirty, you know what I mean?” I wear my hair pulled back in a neat ponytail 97% of the time because I know all this hair makes white people nervous. Imagine if everytime someone saw you they assumed you were dirty, simply because they tried to do something you did (locs) and failed because their hair texture wasn’t correct, and instead of realizing that maybe it was just their situation, they’ve decided to apply that to everyone they meet.
And this nasty, unwashed young woman who feels the need to rebel against something (probably a shower) is sitting up proclaiming to the world that she has locs?
White privilege at work. Not only would I be unemployed if I had the audacity to traipse into my job looking like the inside of a drain, but I would immediately be classified as more of a thug than people already THINK I AM.
That’s why we’re upset. Black women can’t even wear their hair the way it grows out of their heads without it being a national scandal, yet this unwashed, unclean, clearly disturbed individual whose friends obviously have not informed her of the error of her ways will walk out in public and people will not only accept her, they will applaud her for being so different and unique.
Women like this are DIRECTLY affecting my life in that almost everyone I encounter has a friend or a cousin who is her and has given an entire LEGION of people a bad rap.
This is why cultural appropriation is harmful: when we do something and excel at it, are professional about it, look good doing it, it’s worthless. But throw it on a white body doing it the most lazy, bastardized, mediocre way ever and suddenly not only is it OK, it’s amazing! And so much better!
*PS It really does look horrible.
^ The last comment. Yes.
All of the above. The absolute drag and the explanation to go along with it.
Any questions?
Whew….reblogging this again for the way the above person read this dirty child for filth.

These Grandfathers Getting Married Might Be The Best Thing You See Today
The New York Times first posted this video of two men who had been together since the Vietnam War, adopted a baby, became grandfathers, and finally got married.
Lewis Duckett and Billy Jones have been together a long time.

They were introduced through a mutual friend and…

They wrote just about every day when Billy was deployed to Vietnam.

But they had to be careful, and wrote in code so their relationship was kept secret.

Then they adopted a child. They’re now grandfathers.

And last year this happened.

Which is pretty much the sweetest thing that ever happened.

Saturday marks one year that I've been in Charlotte. I moved here because I needed to escape my comfort zone and find out who I was outside of Griffin, Carrollton, my family, my childhood friends, and my broken relationships. I had no expectations. I had no reason to believe that my life would change in twelve short months. I don't know if Charlotte is my permanent home, but I do know that a huge piece of my heart will always be here. I want to send love to New Beginnings, AOC, AMP, FLY, Zoe, KRK and every individual who helped to make this year one of the best that I've ever had. I can't wait to see what 2014 holds.

"I’ve never had the audacity to wait for a heart before now, but you said sleep on it. So I curled up on your chest and learned patience. Didn’t want to let the weight of my tears wake your gorgeous the mornings can be so mortal. And you often have bad dreams, I’ve caught you, mid-scream on a September night, swore then that I would kiss the fright from your voice; if you would let me but that’s your choice, my love."
