just saw the trailer for elden ring nightrein, and first of all, i just wanna say, the gameplay looks terrible. it's like they tried to combine elden ring combat, with sekiro movement, with free multiplayer battle royale special moves. those all seem to clash quite a lot, so i don't have any high hopes for it being a good game. of course, this is just the first trailer, but as of now, i think there needs to be more gameplay shown to actually tell anything.
a lot of people are saying it looks like monster hunter, and... what...? have any of you ever played monster hunter...? i really don't see the resemblance, personally.
secondly, the lore seems intriguing. it's clear they're going for a worlds converging thing, with the ds2 spider, the centipede demon from ds1, the nameless king and fire keeper from ds3, and the stake driver from bloodborne. whether sekiro will appear or not is unclear, though in the segment of the trailer where someone is fighting against an omen, it's pretty clear they're bringing back some kind of sekiro deflecting mechanic. hopefully the gameplay is at least good enough for this to be explored.
third, and finally, i hope it's available as a solo experience as well. it would suck if it's exclusively a multiplayer experience, which really isn't helping fromsoftware's growing exclusivity now that they might be owned by sony.
my biggest gameplay concern is the movement. it looks cheap and... mmo-ish, for lack of better words. it just makes me feel like i'm going to be looking at a screen with skill cooldowns and item rarities, which is really unpleasant for the otherwise grounded approach souls games have. of course, elden ring already has item rarities, but that's more so to say a weapon is important than to say it's good. legendary weapons aren't necessarily better than normal weapons, and i think that's the best way to do it. having a randomly generated weapon rarity system where rare weapons are just inherently better sucks for a series where that's never been a feature.
all in all, i hope it isn't free-to-play slop. i hope this isn't elden ring fortnite, or elden ring naraka bladepoint. that being said, i'm pretty sure this is elden ring naraka bladepoint... which is disheartening to see from a company that's so good at not making slop.
