Showcasing our talents

24th March 2014 Today was the first day of a very long process and a day which we were jam packed with information, it was a lot to take in. We found out that we would not be a part of the end of year show which was a little disappointing because I would have liked to of end my time at Miskin doing an end of year show but we now have other priorities. I am very excited to gather lots of material that could go into the showcase, I really want to do something that I have never done before such as dancing and singing. Knowing that there could be a lot of agents coming to see the showcase is very scary but also very exciting and I hope to find something that will show me off in the best way possible.

Our last ever show at Miskin

We didn't know it but this would be our last ever performance at the Miskin, and what a performance it was. We had a lot to improve on from the schools performances and I felt very disappointed with the lack of play and commitment in the school shows. We had a lot of problems on the day before the show because Lon our main antagonist fell ill and was not able to do the show, we had a lot of people in mind to play the part but none were able to so we got joe spinks to play it and what a brilliant job he did. I felt like I wasn't prepared enough for the show because we finished the tech very close to the show but I was eager to make up for the schools tour. The show started off extremely well and the audience were on our side right from the off, we all started playing around with our characters and putting 100% commitment into what we was doing. I was having so much fun with what I was doing and I didn't want the show to end. There were a few problems that we encountered such as the table braking and me falling over but we just went with it and played on it which made it work and the audience were none the wiser. I did feel however that I forgot to play to the audience sitting at the back row and I only played to the people sitting in the front few rows. Overall it was the most fun I have ever had whilst performing the show and we definitely made up for the schools tour, we now have to have the much commitment and sense of play in every single show we do in the future.

Our final week was a hectic one to say the least but a very successful week in my book. We took the show to two different schools and performed to the year 5's and 6's. Now I don't think we performed to the best of our ability at all, in fact I think we lacked a lot in our performances and I don't think we connected with the kids. We lacked the most in terms of play and exploration.

The workshops however were in my opinion more of a success than the shows, because the kids had a lot of fun and we built some sort of a connection with them which we didn't do in the show. We took on all of the notes given to us by Carleigh and Clare the day before such as not giving the kids time to think and to keep things moving.

We had a few days to relax and reflect on the process so far and then it was back to business and back to Miskin to put the show out once more. We were all very stressed over the budget and making a profit from the show and also over ticket sales which were not doing great, but we pulled through and put the show out which was an amazing success. I had the most fun I have ever had whilst performing and even though things went wrong we made it look like part of the show. We played and explored, something we didn't do at the schools and we had the audience laughing at nearly every scene, it was brilliant.

Monsters begins

Summary of the week I was delighted to find out that I would be a part of Monsters and when I looked at the character of the investigator I immediately fell in love with it. I have been familiar with the Jamie Bulger story ever since intermediate and I was disappointed when we didn't chose Monsters as our first piece. Working with the intermediate company at the start of the week was a little bit intimidating but it gradually got better and I felt more comfortable as the week went on. I was amazed with myself how quickly I learned some of my scenes this week as last year it would have taken me triple the amount of time, I felt the thing that helped me was constantly going through it with other actors out loud. My main concern is being able to do the story justice and being the best I can be as I have been given a great opportunity. This is a scene from Schindler's list and I chose this because of Ralph Fiennes brilliant acting. He's really playing with her head and basically explaining to her that she is not a human being and the subtext of the scene is that he would like to have sex with her but he can't and won't because she is a Jew.
