On My Way
So as some of you may have seen I have pretty much been posting pictures of myself in a different state everyday. This is because I'm on a cross country road trip with my sister en route to Seattle, Washington. Why Washington, you ask? All I can really say is that this is where music will be made. For now I wanted to post some photos of me on the road and let you in on my trip across of the U.S of A.
I left on Monday June 2nd for Atlanta, Georgia with the extreme urge to participate in Eddie's Attic Singer/Songwriter competition, so that is exactly what I did. Lo and behold, I walked away with the win and was able to cross a dream off my list. I will now be competing in the Eddie's Attic Singer/Songwriter Shootout this coming November and I would love nothing more but to have an audience full of familiar faces. Here's a photo that my sister snapped while I was on stage performing.
We crashed at a friends house in Atlanta and left the following morning for Chattanooga, TN. A city that I have now grown very fond of. We grabbed some coffee and roamed around the arts district while snapping pictures of the awesome bridges. We couldn't leave Chattanooga without being real tourists and stopping to experience Ruby Falls. A really beautiful underground waterfall. Here is a glimpse at my afternoon in Chattanooga.
We then headed to Nashville, TN where we were completely unaware of the fact it was also CMA week. So as we wandered the streets of downtown Nashville we stumbled upon an impromptu Blake Shelton concert. What could be a better than a free, front and center view of a Blake Shelton show?
We left Nashville for St. Louis and on the way passed a sign in Kentucky reading "Lighthouse Landing." It sounded like a good photo opportunity so we had to stop. It turned out, we were right.
We finally arrived in St. Louis and our first stop was The Mud House, an amazing cafe where I sipped on some coffee and did some computer work. It was a nice way to wear off the driving fatigue. I sat at a table just beneath a large, framed photo of Bob Dylan and it felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
We then left to checkout the Gateway Arch where we took a trip to the top where I experienced the comforting feeling of panic and claustrophobia. It was scary to be at the top of that arch. I'm really glad I did it though.
I want to mention that St. Louis is a city filled with the nicest most personable and genuine people I have had the pleasure of meeting. So thank you!
We left for Kansas City, Missouri and I fell in love with this place. We stumbled upon my favorite restaurant, Cafe Gratitude and then walked the streets for a couple hours. It was one of my favorite stops.
En route to Colorado, I first had to stop in Topeka, Kansas to see my friend Amelia at the Equality House. I had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful human being at SXSW this past year and she stands for things that are really important and cool. I wanted to see what this place she calls home is all about.
After a short stop in Topeka we drove through the night to Colorado.. But two hours into the trip we were both so exhausted we stopped at a rest area to nap. Who would have thought I'd get the best sleep of the trip in my car at a rest stop. We woke up to the sun beaming through my car windows in the early AM wondering how we slept the whole night away. We woke up and continued our drive to Colorado. (It happened to be National Doughnut Day so we stopped in Denver at Voodoo Doughnuts and enjoyed a hard earned treat. Since then we've been hanging between Boulder and Denver experiencing some new places and seeing some beautiful views. We had breakfast on a mountain and spent the night in my friends living room chatting and tasting a collection of some of Colorado's finest brews. Needless to say, I fell asleep with a stomach full of craft beer.
Next stop is a week of camping throughout Utah and Arizona.. so it may be a little while before the next update.
Peace and love,
CZ
