Caught
The next time you find yourself caught
In patterns of feeling distraught
With danger this habit is fraught
To think your way out of a thought.
In Between
I fixed on seclusion And married my mood To sync with each season In rich solitude.
When weary I grew of Predictable days I fled to the city Where mystery plays.
Exhausting my wages In shallow pursuits I learned the importance Of feeding my roots.
Contentment, I now know Is found in between The buzz of the hive and The eremite's dream.
Poo bags
Narrowed eyes Betray a smile Kicking legs And all the while We gaze, entranced Besotted With poo bags To be knotted.
"Philosophy" of Privilege
Think, really think
Feel thoughts in your chest
And the thing that you thunk
Shall manifest.
A hungry child
Slowly fades, blinking,
Another victim of
Faulty thinking
Aching
Wailing wind, relentless rain Swiping at my window pane Lucky me to shelter here Safe and warm, without fear of Washing up upon a street Nothing left to wear, or eat Wishing for the final drop Aching for the pain to stop.
Leaps and bounds
Unbounded freedom is a curse Unending choice, what could be worse? A spotlight can never be split. Set limits, pick something, commit!
Linger
In giving we receive In listening we speak A message to the meek That lingers when we leave.
The Precautionary Principle
There is a risk To everything A cost to Every choice.
Each road we take Each bitten tongue Each time we Use our voice.
What if you fail? That old refrain Plays loudly In the mind.
And if you don't? Rich bounties wait For those who Seek to find.
An Oustretched Hand
Some days the hours melt away Like butter in a pan We fall into the flow of things Like many grains of sand.
Some days the seconds linger So hard it feels to stand But reach with hope and you may find Another outstretched hand.
Dare
Let it go Until the rope Release the tightness In your throat.
Chart a course For who knows where Sail in starlight If you dare.
If I ever get out of here
Thought of giving it all away
To a registered charity
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get outta here
If we ever get outta of here
A new song for your aural pleasure.
Passive / Aggressive
Outwork and outperform Conceal the plans created There is a bounty waiting For the underestimated.
Leap!
It is a woeful state Contentment to postpone Until the hour is late And everything is known.
So fickle is the mind Unwritten, yet, the book To grow, you must fly blind And leap before you look.
No Quarter
Another day Another chance To shrink away Or rise and dance. No fate is sealed And though I break I will not yield Nor quarter take.
Droplets
I sat upon the riverbank Beneath a shrouded sky I waited for the thunder and Began to wonder why We think our thoughts are any more Than droplets flowing by I stood upon the riverbank Beneath a bright blue sky.
Framing
I
Yesterday I drove to see Faces framed on marbled stone And walked the narrow paths between Where tears are shed and flowers thrown.
II
It took a while to find your place Too busy counting all the years Now your mother shares this space I am enchanted by fears.
III
For all we strive to achieve Legacies to leave behind What matters to those who grieve Are the loving, devoted, kind.
IV
Yesterday I drove to see Faces framed in marbled stone Re-learning this reality We live on in love alone.
