though undeniably mercurial at the best of times there was perhaps one thing that would always seem to guarantee a better mood from him - the promise of a drink. with the reach boasting such a coveted supply of wines , his enjoyment should have been all but secured. but instead of savoring the full palate of the arbor red he had been served , matthos only tasted bitterness on his tongue left by the reminder that the kingdom did not rise for him. the merriment around him was all but lost on him as he took a large drink from his chalice . attention shifted to his queen (@crvwncd) as he waved the now empty cup in a silent demand for more . being dull - witted was not a crime and yet the tyrell matriarch had always been unable to look forgivingly upon those who possessed an inability to reason for themselves . exacting gaze had watched nobles test their intellect in the maze for her granddaughter's (@disrcpairs) amusement and had found most of them to be lacking . being kept waiting was not something she was now accustomed to but wait she did for the youngest rose to emerge from the maze after entertaining her victors. mirth  is  often  unbashed  from  the  king,  and  it  can  not  be  different  when  he  has  been  mighty  in  the  competition.  it  is  with  a  bright  grin  that  hand  comes  down  hard  on  the  son's  ( @xfulminare ) back,  even  his  affection  comes  double-edged.  "you  fell  down  like  shit,  boy.  is  that  how  i  taught  you?"  light  jest  is  what  his  tone  suggests,  yet  words  are  not  particularly  warm.  "even  your  brother  did  better  than  you.  now,  would  you  expect  that?"  matthos  certainly  wouldn't  have.

glen  says  there's  still  one  day  or  so  until  king's  landing,  but  it  is  still  far  enough  that  the  stench  hasn't  overwhelmed  the  senses,  and  he  has  a  moment  or  two  to  find  quietude  away  from  the  cities  —  the  thing  is,  matthos  isn't  a  big  fan  of  quiet.  that  is  why  he  requests  for  his  eldest  girl  (  @dvnastics  )  to  come  and  join  him  under  the  shade  while  the  others  are  still  asleep.  "eat  the  bread.  it  will  do  you  and  the  babes  nothing  good  if  you're  that  sticky  thin."  fatherly  advises  comes  unsolicited  as  of  the  norm,  just  with  a  hint  of  pressure  (if  sebastion  doesn't  fill  rickard's  daughter  with  children  already,  then  it  is  argella  that  must  fulfill  some  kind  of  duty).  "the  others  will  not  join  us,  put  that  face  away."

the  hug  he  gives  his  niece  ( @stcrnborn ) could  break  bones  —  matthos  has  never  known  otherwise,  affection  warmly  given  whenever  he  thinks  it  suitable,  especially  to  those  of  his  blood.  as  he  pulls  away,  hands  cup  at  the  younger  baratheon’s  cheeks.  “you’re  growing  to  look  just  like  your  mother.”  hands  fall,  and  gaze  wanders  to  where  the  stormlands  retinue  should  be.  “wherever  is  that sour old woman?  she  will  say  all  that  work  keeps  her  —  bah!  it  doesn’t  keep  me  rooted  like  a  fucking  tree,  does  it?"
