Conrad: Huh? I'm 24. Ttys, I have to try on some polos.
TEXT: Lydia + Conrad
Lydia: WOWWWWWWWW ok you know what nvm about taking me to the wedding, I'll find someone else
Lydia: sorry I tried to help
Conrad: No Lyd I'm sorry, I'm out shopping with my dad right now. I'll call you after and we can talk, alright?
TEXT: Lydia + Conrad
Lydia: Oh my god Conrad
Lydia: Do you want to know about the gay shit Jonah does at church or not???? Because I worked HARD for this research
Conrad: Lydia, I’m not going to gossip about Jonah with you. He’s my best friend...and YOUR brother. Like I said, I have no idea what you’re even talking about and if Jonah hasn’t told me then it’s not my business.
TEXT: Lydia + Conrad
Lydia: What?
Conrad: What are you talking about?
TEXT: Lydia + Conrad
Lydia: Okay. I'm going to help you out Conrad.
Lydia: Despite speculation, I'm not oblivious. As long as you take me to the wedding I'll help you dig up info on Jonah's secret gay meetings at church.
Lydia: Deal?
Conrad: What?
bronahschmidt:
Jonah’s ideal morning routine was a jog with Conrad followed by smoothies in his family’s open and sunny kitchen. While the winters in Oakvale were cold and the roads were icy, Jonah prided himself on being an adaptive creature and side-by side treadmilling to Good Morning America it was. The sun bouncing off the snow made the Schmidt’s excessively windowed and chrome-y kitchen almost too bright, but Jonah liked the holiday season as much as he liked long walks on hot summer nights. Besides, he’d actually managed to talk Conrad into a post-workout seasonal brunch instead of just smoothies this time. He was carefully plating a kale-apple salad and cranberry muffin for his best friend when Conrad arrived at the counter (it was only polite to offer your best dude the expansive Schmidt bathroom suite after a run).
“So,” he started, carefully arranging some walnuts on Conrad’s plate, “when do I get to see these coordinating outfits you and Lydia got?”
Conrad let out a laugh, which ended up sounding just a little more forced and a lot more nervous than intended. He quickly replaced it by clearing his throat, and he ran a hand through the damp hair he’d just towel-dried and combed before settling into a chair at the island in the Schmidt family kitchen.
“Uh, anytime,” he answered, eyes avoiding Jonah’s face and instead falling on the arranged breakfast plate. The sunlight coming from every angle suddenly felt like it was glaring into him--bright, hot, and uncomfortable. He imagined this was how it must have felt to have a movie detective shining a light in your face and demanding the truth, as if the morning sun was trying to reveal the details of his heterosexual charade. And yeah, he knew it was all in his own head, all these associations and feelings, and he was the one shining the light into the corners of his own heart and mind, but he winced a little nonetheless.
He’d have been able to properly appreciate the plating Jonah had done if he hadn’t been so distracted by this, but instead, he just stared at a walnut. “They’re... Lydia picked them out, I sort of let her have full control there. She’s happy, I think, so that’s good.”
Day 181/365: A song that makes you want to be a better person
This is one of the best inspirational songs I’ve heard in a few years. It always pumps me up and makes me want to work and strive to be better and all I can be.
Text: Conrad ⌁ Jonah
Jonah: Yeah man
Jonah: I just get you ;)
Jonah: I could hang tomorrow actually? I was gonna do holiday shopping but it'd be more fun with you!
Jonah: I'll just wait to get your present! :)
Conrad: I know you do, we just make sense to each other. That's part of why we make such a good team. So basically ya, I'd love to be your shopping sidekick tomorrow!!!
Conrad: :)
Text: Conrad ⌁ Jonah
Jonah: That makes perfect sense.
Jonah: I've been busy at church and I know you're crazy busy man! But we need to make some more time to hang, like, just us.
Conrad: I knew you would get it.
Conrad: When works for you?
That’s right, the wild boys have become the cops
Text: Avery ⌁ Conrad
Avery: Ugh if it wasn't 5 AM and I hadn't slept yet and it wasn't November in Pennsylvania and I didn't have asthma I definitely would just to get you talking.
Avery: Ok but I don't want one of those weird green ones this time!!
Conrad: Haha... OK. But you would've liked it if you weren't so hung up on it being green. It does NOT taste like "grass" and you can't even taste the kale. And I love kale, so that is almost sad to me.
Conrad: See you in a bit... Smoothie will be in the fridge for when you wake up.
Text: Conrad ⌁ Jonah
Jonah: Hey man, yeah of course I'm going!
Jonah: It's good you're taking Lyd, she really needs a good guy right now.
Conrad: Ya...
Conrad: I miss you though. It's weird. I feel like I haven't seen you much even though you've been around and I've been around because Lydia has been there. You know? Or does that make no sense.
Text: Conrad ⌁ Jonah
Conrad: Hey Jo
Conrad: So Lydia asked me if I'd go to the Weston wedding thing with her and I said yes
Conrad: You're going right?? There's no way your dad would let you miss that
Text: Avery ⌁ Conrad
Avery: Right, your little sister.
Avery: Sounds like a good time!
Avery: Are you talking to your dog?
Conrad: ......
Conrad: Hey so since you're awake and it's not even 7 am yet, that means you're pumped and you'll be joining me on my morning jog, right??? Your favorite activity???
Conrad: Ya, that's what I THOUGHT!
Conrad: Go to sleep, Avery
Conrad: I'll bring you back a breakfast smoothie
lydiaesther:
“Didn’t know… What? Like I literally just said, I don’t know anything about who Jonah’s taking to the wedding. And I really really don’t care.”
“Maybe you should just ask him if you’re so worried about it.”
But hadn’t she just...? Had he really somehow misheard her...?
“No, I’m not. I was just...” He shook his head and looked down to clear his throat a little too forcefully, as if the noise might somehow scatter the panicked thoughts in his mind out of existence.
He tried the best he could to segue with a topic she actually cared about, hoping she’d forget what had just happened as much as he wanted to. “So, uh, what color do you think you’re gonna wear? You were talking about matching outfits...?”
