Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.
They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.
Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.
You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.

Two things back that up:
There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.
Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.

You can get and use windows 11 without logging in with a microsoft account, as of five days ago. I am a local user on my computer. Don't ask me how to do it, because my computer repair guy did it when he reinstalled windows, but there are tutorials out there. Refuse to connect to internet until you're set up and can use the computer freely.
Refusing to connect to the internet doesn't help. You have to open a Command Prompt (Shift+F10) and typing start ms-cxh:localonly (and pressing enter) during installation when you get to the sign in/create stupid ms account screen

with palworld releasing into version 1.0 today, despite nintendo's most desperate attempts to lawsuit, block, and copyright-kill the game over the years, i like to imagine that july 10th is officially nintendo's own personal version of a tragedy so bad that it gets referred to by its date. salty mfs at nintendo are going to be treating 7/10 the same way that nationalistic americans treat 9/11

Tags from OP; and yeah, this is pretty much exactly it. Nintendo/Gamefreak was THE most respected entertainment company of my childhood, but as the years have gone by, they've changed for the worse. Their quality and creativity has stagnated and more and more terrible things about them have come to light. I still like pokemon and they still make games that are kinda fun, but... Well, I'm not totally blind to their misdeeds.
But honestly, this is part of why I'm so thankful for Palworld. It's some truly high quality competition. I hope it flourishes as a franchise, because I think that ultimately that will also be good for pokemon too (not to mention my genuine enjoyment of Palworld!).
I was really on the fence about trying it since I was a longtime pokemon fan, but holy fuck it's really really good. It's got more than a few features I've been dying to get in pokemon (the pal outfit thingy, having uses for pals that are outside your main team, having multiple ways to interact with your pals), but it's so much more than the knockoff that I thought it was going to be at first.
It combines so many of the best elements of so many genres and it does it naturally. I can pick out moments of "oh this feels like Fortnite!" or "Ark Survival, but if it wasn't hostile to the users?", but it never feels like the game is copying those names, it feels like every significant core gameplay decision was purposely made to create a game that was fun (which is more than I can say about many predatory AAA games that want to annoy you so you spend money to remove the annoyance)
There are a couple pals that do feel like they're close to pokemon but honestly all of them feel distinct enough that I'd say they're only pokemon inspired, and I feel like I came away from the game with many pals that I genuinely like and would happily list along with my favourite pokemon.
Overall I think I have only one true criticism: I think that the artstyle of the humans in the game isn't quite the same as the artstyle of the pals. I think it would make sense to stylize the humans a bit more so that they line up better. But, that's something I can more than overlook.
Lesser criticism: Ancient Civilization Cores are a pain to get (but like. It's fine)
Anyways, if you're on the fence like I was, I'd really recommend trying it! It totally took over my life for about ten days
