Your muse will find the invitation near their tent, and all they have to do is prepare a proper attire ( any skin will go just fine!! ) and will then get teleported to the Throne Room for the party.

The lights flicker.

The light on the ceiling. The light on the tree. Slowly, one by one, as if someone was taking them out as slowly as possible to see if anyone would’ve noticed before it was too late. Someone. Something. The same thing that changed the tune, turning it into ragtime, the notes of which turned louder and louder by the second.

The same one who started humming, mocking the song the survivors sang during Winter’s Feast. Song that dies along the very last light.

You could hear a scream - not of pain, but full of anger. A woman’s voice, irate, that soon enough changes into a growl. A hiss. One far too familiar for all those who lost themselves in the shadows.

...

...and when you wake up, you’re right out. By the Floral Postern, with the belongings that were taken away from you when you first reached it.

You head hurts. It always did, when you came back to life.

What a rotten way to end a ball.

You may have noticed.

Something moving in the dark, hiding away as soon as anyone turned their head to it. Whispers, hisses. Eyes appearing all of a sudden, glaring at anyone who dared to get too close to the blackness surrounding the room.

You may have noticed.

The shadow slithering around. Hiding under the tables. Under the tree. Under your own feet, and then climbing up the columns.

You may have noticed.

But before you could say something, before you could comment about how there was something on the lights, They got rid of two of them. You hear... laughter. Crying. The distant calling of a monther, a father, a brother, a sister.  The faint sound of ragtime. It’s different for everyone. Not even the Queen herself is safe from this little ‘prank’.

The night grows darker.

As you look around, perhaps waiting for something to happen, maybe instead far too confused and insecure to go ahead, a shadow figure approaches.

They look... human. Human-ish. Pitch black, as if someone’s shadow walked to you. They would like to invite you to dance. Do you accept?

« okay. do we start causing a mess now, or do we wait? »

« i feel watched. i'm sure there are eyes in the darkness. »

« they really took my pickaxe?! it barely counts as a weapon. »

« i don't know you, but i think i'll stay on this corner until it's over. »

« do you think the shadowy guys cooked this? because it's delicious. »

« look, you can stay there and act grumpy all night, or we can at least ty to have fun. »

Were you to show up to the Floral Postern, you wouldn’t find the usual portal. It’s there, mind you - surrounded by thorns, its eye glaring at you as always -, and yet the decorations surrounding it are new. Shiny, colorful, clearly clashing with the rest of the dull, dark world surrounding it. There are many more roses all around it, ranging from white, to red, to... was that green?

It was an odd type of green, you may notice. Unnatural. As if someone hastily painted them.

What, now? Was the Queen going to show up right there and then, in the middle of nowhere? While you waited, you might’ve thought it was a trap all along. As minutes passed, you might’ve even thought it was a prank. However, Skitts’ arrival changed your mind. They slithered in from the shadows, appearing in front of you wearing a cute little bowtie and bowing their head before putting themselves on the side of the Postern, giving a grand gesture as to silently tell you to walk through it. Maybe they stop you just a second to make sure you’re not bringing any obvious weapon, but for the rest they seem to not wanting to cause any trouble. If anything, they seem pretty excited!

And as you do, the world around you twists and changes. The sky fades away, the grass turns into a polished floor; only one tree remains in front of you - decorated quite simply, yet emanating a shiny glow, in contrast with the deep darkness surrounding you.

It took some more seconds - just enough to leave you staring in complete awe at the surroundings, or maybe get a little worried for the pitch black all around you -, before a hand from under the tables put food and drinks on them, served in fancy crystal glasses and plates; you finally hear the music coming from seemingly nowhere, echoing in the hall.

The Queen is still not here, and yet her guards - her Terrorbeaks - still glare from the darkness. Will she come by soon? Who knows. For now, might as well celebrate, right?

Lights are appearing all over the Constant. They start from the camps, the woods, the caves - wherever the Survivors may be, and lead to the Postern.

It’s almost time.

Did you hear that?

Faint notes echoing in the Constant? The ragtime playing in the dark of the night? The distorted sounds, as if they came out from a worn out phonograph?

Guess someone is making sure everything works perfectly for the Ball.
