Edgeworth finds himself smiling slightly. “It is good to know he has other people who care about him,” he says. “Sebastian is not lacking in resolve, but his task is far from easy.” Truth be told, Miles was a little wistful about it all; Sebastian was one of several young people working in law who had been manipulated by those at the top, before some of the corruption was uprooted and cleansed – and while Edgeworth was all too happy to provide that support, he wondered sometimes, what it would have been to have received it when he was going through the same.
But then, that ship has sailed a long time ago, and he is glad he’s strong enough to support his subordinates. “I suppose Judge Courtney is a good role model,” he says lightly. Of course, he knows his own influence is probably not something to discount, but he’s not much for putting himself in the limelight outside the courtroom. “Sometimes she jumps to conclusions, but she always listens to reason and evidence – which cannot be said about every law professional I have worked with or under.”
His heart’s in the right place, I agree. But I think he’ll be okay in the end. [ he’ll get the support he needs from not just constance herself, but from those he works for. ]
I worked a bit with Courtney before I started teaching. She was--always a bit like that. [ she notes how he doesn’t mention his position as a possible role model, but doesn’t say anything--she might step over a line, and while she sometimes pushes lines she won’t do it here. ] I see a possible change in that, though--lots of our students are good at keeping open minds, we’ll see how they do.
[ she lets out a breath. ] Well, I think I’ve probably bothered you for long enough. Which floor is Sebastian’s office on...? If not this one.
