Wow, his eyes went from the sign to the woman before him. She was a bit, young, for such a title. Must be an extremely ambitious woman. “Officer Briggs.” He happily shook Contessa’s hand. “Well, I was hoping you could tell me if you heard anything in the area? We got a disturbance call, and I’m just checking to make sure everyone is okay.”
“Pleasure to meet you, Officer Briggs,” she grinned before her face turned far more serious at the mention of a disturbance call. “Oh goodness, I do hope everything’s alright,” she said, frowning in concern, “I’m afraid I haven’t heart anything, but I’ll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for any further disturbances,” she added, suspecting that their was likely a supernatural explanation to the call.
“10-15.″ Shaun called out over his radio as he started back to his police cruiser. “Premise is clear.” Another false call, either teenagers were having a hay day sending different cruisers all over town or someone was trying to keep them busy. “Hey,” it seemed it wasn’t completely clear after all. “what are you doing out here?”
“Well, if you must know, I work here,” she says motioning to the building across the street with the sign that bore her name. “Contessa Valentine, Attorney at Law,” she introduced holding out her hand, “Anything I can do for you Officer?” she asked, not entirely unfamiliar with talking with law enforcement, as per her job.
“ Get out, Rosier, “ he murmured in almost disgusted voice, playing with his bottle of beer. “ It will be good for you —— god-fucking-damnit, these brats. “ Alpha shakes his head and lifting his head a little to look at the other. “ Do I look like I need more ‘human interactions’ ? “ he asked, but frowned right after. “ Okay, after saying it aloud I’m not so sure if I want to know now. “
“Oh, I don’t know, I think a little human interaction is good every now and then...” Contessa mused, “For everyone that is, present company included,” she says motioning to the man before her who seemed like some fresh air would do him good. “Alone time is fun and all but I get bored after a while, don’t you?” she asks aloud, “There always going to be idiots who are damn irritating, but I always find a way to have some fun.”
❛ IT’S LIKE THIS IS STEPPING STONE TO MEDICINE. You do have to go to med school but nobody tells you about the year you have to intern here before you’re actually able to start writing prescriptions. ❜ A genuine laugh escaped Leonor’s mouth before continuing, she took the cup into her hand and pointed at the name. ❛ It could say Contessa but you see this squiggly line here, that automatically makes it Leonor instead. ❜
“For sure,” Contessa agreed, continuing to search for her drink as she chuckled slightly. Turning around she watched as Leonor pointing to looping line which she could only guess was faintly reminiscent of an “L”. “Leonor...” Contessa echoed, “That’s a beautiful name and rather unique if I do say so myself. I quite like,” she says decisively before landing on a cup with something that possibly resembled her name and matched her order.
A SMILE PLASTERED IT’S way onto the human’s face , whether it was real or not was another question for another time. the bar had been quiet , a secluded place during the day for her to open up her notebook & try to organize her thought , but clearly the stress of the nursing occupation was written on her face. ‘ i don’t — , ’ she paused , nodding her head slowly. ‘ i guess one can’t hurt. congratulations on the win. ’
“Thank you, hun,” Contessa smiled appreciatively before peering towards the girl’s notebook. It was clear the girl had quite a bit on her mind tonight. “Trying to unwind from a stressful day?” Tessa asked before motioning for the bartender to come over and take their orders, “So what’ll your poison be tonight?” she asked, “Oh, and don’t feel like you have to shy away from the good stuff.”
He was wiping down the bar top with a wet cloth when the woman spoke. “I suppose I could,” he looked around for the manager. He was technically allowed a break every couple of hours, but he’d just had one. Still, there was something intriguing about the woman before him, something that set off his highly powered senses. “Hell, if you’re buying, then you know I’m not gonna order the cheap stuff. Though you look like you can afford it.”
Smiling as the barkeeper accepted her offer, a bright laugh tumbled from her lips, “I would offer no less, especially as I assure you I can most certainly afford it,” she confirmed, studying the man before her. There was a certain aura about him which piqued her curiosity. After six years of living in Vernon, running into other supernaturals had become a common occurrence, but that didn’t mean she would let her guard down immediately.
“Did you?” She asked curiously. “You should always win cases, then. I would be more than happy to have my drinks paid more times.” The girl chuckled as she looked at her. “Congratulations, girl.”
“Indeed, I did,” Contessa affirmed with a nod, before chuckling, “Well, in that case, I’d be happy to, after all, winning is no fun if you have to celebrate by yourself,” she added with a grin, “Thanks, hun. So what brings you here tonight?” she asks turning to face the other girl.
nora looked over at contessa, a woman she found a little chilling. a little scary. she just had something over her that unsettled her, though she wasn’t sure whether or not that was founded or not. she smiled at her. “congratulations.” she said. “i… i mean, i probably should get home.” she stammered, not sure whether or not lying to her would be a good idea. her children were in bed and her wife certainly gave her the freedom to go out whenever she pleased.
“Thank you very much,” Tessa grinned as she motioned for the barkeep to come over with the tilt of her head. “Home? Already?” Tessa asked, a slight frown gracing her otherwise enigmatic features, “It would be such a shame to let the night die so early, wouldn’t you agree?” she mused, a faint smile playing at her lips. She wasn’t quite sure what to make of the girl seated beside her as she seemed to radiate a rather nervous energy, a human for sure.
“Now you look like someone who could use a drink,” Contessa chuckled, as she gracefully slid into a seat a the bar, “I just won my case this morning, so I’m feeling pretty chipper-- next one on me?” she offered, turning towards the person beside her, tossing them the slightest of winks.
❛ LOOK, I IMAGINE YOU’RE EXHAUSTED so I’ll do you a kindness and won’t even make you pay for the coffee that I ordered. ❜ She went on to brush a thin strand of hair behind her ear and offered the thief a soft smile.
“My apologies, darling,” Tessa chuckled, further examining the cup, before handing it to the girl beside her, “I blame the barista’s god-awful handwriting, you’d think legible handwriting should be part of the job description...” she muttered before examining another cup, “Now, you think this one actually says ‘Contessa’?” she asked squinting at the scrawled letters.
Cece was sitting in the local coffee shop, feed curled underneath her as the book she read had her on the edge of her seat. Not taking her eyes away from it, she reached for her cup and winded up knocking her cup forward, unsettling her peace and calm. “Shit,” She said aloud.
“Napkin, darling?” Contessa offered, casually turning to face the source of the curse, “I take it you could use this one a lot more than I can,” she mused, tucking the piece of cloth between her index and middle finger in a motion to hand it back to the girl behind her.

Contessa was born in 1722 at sea under the name Asha Valentine. Both her parents were avid travelers, explorers, and merchants, set on sailing the world in the hopes of one day striking it rich.
Asha practically grew up on a boat, as her parents circumnavigated the globe until they eventually settled down in Italy where her family became renowned sellers of exotic goods and other oddities they had picked up throughout their journey. The Nair family eventually established themselves wealthy business people and became the count and countess of the island of Budelli as their daughter adopted the moniker of ‘Contessa’.
It was on the island where Tessa was bit after a particularly hungry, wandering vampire decided to take interest in the young, merchant girl. With the taste of blood and adventure still on her lips, Contessa left her family to travel with the vampire who turned her around the world.
Eventually after years of travelling, Contessa would return to her home only to see her parents look at with mighty fear as they noted their daughter hadn’t aged a day since she left. Quickly figuring out what she was, they made the fateful decision to kill the vampire who had turned their daughter into the monster she was. In a brutal scuffle against the island, Tessa barely made it out alive as her parents turned not only against her creator but her, as well.
Fearfully, Tessa continued her travels, never staying in one place for too long, lest her secret come out.
Eventually, Tessa found herself drawn to Vernon, a place where she felt as though she could settle down. And though there’s others like her, and she’s taken up a job, integrated herself into society, there’s always the ghosts of her past reminding that the clock’s ticking until she’ll have to run again.
