LECTURE 01 - SANDY MORRISON

We are delighted to announce that the guest lecture series is back for the 2014/15 session, starting THIS FRIDAY AT 5:30pm for 6pm start with Sandy Morrison! Sandy will be discussing some of the projects he has worked on in his time at HTA ( http://www.hta.co.uk/ ), followed by the importance of sketches in exploring all stages and aspects of design in our increasingly digital age (http://www.sandysdrawingroom.com/ ). Tickets are £2 in advance or £3 on the door, with 1st years able to attend for free! Please see Drew, Dion, Ryan, Jakub or Sean in the studios or come along to seminar room 3 in the James Weir Building at 5pm on the night. Parlas/Labhair: A discussion session with Joan Callis

The school is proud to welcome back architect Joan Callis of EMBT, this time accompanied by our very own Ruairidh Moir!

Starting at 2pm in the main studio of the James Weir building on the 27th of February, Joan will be open interviewed by Ruairidh in more of a discussion format, prompted by excerpts of film, texts, drawings and personal narratives.

The aim is to explore the untold stories of our nations parliament unlocking some of the personal accounts and people intrinsically linked to its conception and realisation.

Joan Callis hon. FRIAS (Miralles Tagliabue EMBT)

Joan Callis is a Catalan Architect who has practised worldwide. As Project Director at Miralles Tagliabue EMBT in Barcelona, he is responsible for projects such as a church in Ferrara, Italy, a University Campus in Fudan, China, and a proposed Maggie's centre in his home city.

Joan was The Scottish Parliament buildings project director and instrumental in its creation. This project went on to win awards including the Andrew Doolan award and the Stirling Prize. Joan is also an honorary Fellow of the R.I.A.S. and an honorary life member of Architecture @ 131 society.

Ruairidh C. Moir (BARD)

Ruairidh is a recent graduate of the Strathclyde School of Architecture, and has previously worked at Miralles Tagliabue EMBT and the Fundacio Enric Miralles in Barcelona. He has commentated on architecture and politics in various media outlets, currently serves on RIAS council and is a co-founder of the Architecture @ 131 Society.

First lecture of semester 2 for A@131, we are delighted to welcome Andrew Cameron from WSP to get us back into the series. As always, 5pm start in Studio 2. We look forward to seeing you!

We have an RIAS/RIBA accredited CPD course beginning on the 30th of January in studio 2 of the James Weir building at 4pm.

The focus of the series is Architecture, Culture and Technology and has been expertly organised by our very own Jonathan Charley. For our first we have Murray Grigor, Iain Borden and Chris Leslie speaking, it should be a very compelling evening so we look forward to seeing you all there.

This Thursday we're delighted to have Michael Hall from FaulknerBrowns coming for our next guest lecture! FaulknerBrowns have a vast and diverse range of work including the Lee Valley white water course used in the 2012 olympic games.

SCOTLAND CELEBRATES ENRIC MIRALLES

As we approach the 10 year anniversary of the opening of the Scottish Parliament buildings, it is timely to reflect on the works of Enric Miralles in Scotland. Join us as we host this unique event and consider the life and works of one of the most individual and inventive architects in Europe. The evening will begin at 6pm with the launch of the Strathclyde School of Architecture degree show exhibition. The symposium starts at 6:45pm. Benedetta Tagliabue, David Reat and Neil Baxter will each give their thoughts and reflections on the Scottish Parliament and Enric Miralles.
