“It’s…not that simple. I have a lot of reasons why I “go out”…that’s just one of them.”
God, she hadn’t felt this “soft” in a long while, normally it was all fronts and smiles, all coldness and letting herself enjoy the only thing she could feel anymore.
And yet here she was, trying to explain this whole messed up life of hers to her brother.
“I guess…well, think of it this way Els, the more work I put in on outings like this, the safer people are.”
“At least that’s the best I can spin this whole ordeal.”
Pushing himself to sit up, he listened to her quietly. He hugged his knees, nodding occasionally.
“... I get that.” He replied. It was rare he had a chance to sit down and talk with his sister like this, especially after Dark El had entered their lives. He’d learned to appreciate moments like this. Maybe that was a sign on how he was growing up?
“I really do. Promise. But, I want you to know that protecting people isn’t just your job, yeah? We’re all here to do that.”
“So, try to take it easy, alright?”
