In the furryverse deer start sparring around 5 years old long before they actually have any antler growth. It mostly presents as just repeated headbutting into ideally the head of another similarly aged horn or antler sporting child. More often though they tend to just bang their head into their parents legs or torso, or worse into the head of a non-horned child. Once they start growing antlers its important for parents to curb that behavior before they really hurt someone, which has led to horned animals marking the first (and last) father/son sparring bout to be a childhood milestone. Its where they learn that sparring hurts like shit. If theyre lucky like Rumi is, their dad will have small antlers and only leave a bruise. But if theyre unlucky like Aubrey was……
