“Melitele’s tits, will this rain ever stop?” Jaskier complains for the umpteenth time this day. He glances up at the leaden sky. The rain isn’t heavy, barely more than a drizzle, but it has been falling constantly without a pause since they left the farm where Geralt slaughtered the marauders almost a week ago.

“Better than ridin’ through swelterin’ heat, I can tell you,” Zoltan says. “Not that dwarves are particularly sensitive to heat, we’re used to workin’ in smithies after all, but that year when—”

They never find out what happened that year as, all of a sudden, they hear a horse neigh.

Summary: The morning after the fish soup, Jaskier is worried about the green parrot all alone in the wilderness. Nobody should be left behind, not even the cantankerous bird.

“Milva, think that crossing is passable?”

“I’m sure it is. It was yesterday.”

“Hah! Squirrel!”

“Fuck,” Geralt swears, although he isn’t really angry about having been hoodwinked. He knows the others were right. A day of rest was what Jaskier and he needed, no matter how urgent their mission. But now it is time to travel on without delay. He turns around and strides over to his horse.

“Ahem, Geralt. Wait.” Jaskier clears his throat. “You’ll probably not like this, Geralt. But we can’t leave just yet.”

“What are you talking about, Jask?” The Witcher aborts his move to mount Roach and gazes at his bard with knitted brow. Jaskier’s head injury looks much better than the day before thanks to Regis’ treatment, and he doesn’t even need a bandage anymore. Jaskier is still a little pale due to the blood loss, but otherwise he seems alright and able to travel. “Be quick about it. We’ve lost too much time already,” he urges.

“Someone’s still missing, and we can’t possibly go without him,” Jaskier begins to explain. “He’s family, right, Zoltan?"

Grumpy kisses (Yenralt) [Ao3]

“What is it, love? You look like you had a shit day.” Yennefer sat down on the bench next to Geralt and put an arm around his shoulder.

“Hmmm,” was all Geralt replied.

“Ohh, come on, don’t give me that frown.” Yen leaned in to kiss his cheek. “Tell me what happened, and then I can either curse the person in question, set fire to something, or we can just laugh it off together because you were a bit of a clumsy oaf.”

“Hmmm.” Geralt kept staring straight ahead and did not give her any other answer, but he did not turn away either.

She kissed him again, this time on the tip of his nose. His frown changed slightly. Yen grinned. She moved to sit on his lap, her arms wrapped around his shoulder and her thighs straddling his hips. Then she continued to kiss his face, light, quick kisses from his forehead down the bridge of his nose, all over his cheeks until she eventually reached the corners of his mouth.

Finally, she saw the tiniest smile tug at his lips. She leaned back and grinned triumphantly.

“There, now. Tell me what happened, hm?”

She planted another kiss right on his lips.

Geralt sighed heavily. “Lots of things, really. Mostly Lambert threw a bomb in the kitchen by accident and set half the house ablaze with it. And then he had the audacity to just shrug it off as if nothing had happened, and insist that it hadn’t been his bomb. The man’s going to drive me mad some day.”

“Oh, poor you.” Yen ran a hand through his hair. “Is there anything I can do to cheer you up, besides kissing?”

“Hmmm… what was that about cursing someone you mentioned earlier?”

Yen raised an eyebrow. “I’m not sure if I can curse Lambert, Vesemir would have my head for that.”

Geralt pouted. “Not even a little bit?”

“Not even a little bit. Although…” she thought for a moment. “Perhaps we can think of some spell we can cast on his bombs.”

She looked the bard up and down. He looked fine outwardly. There were no obvious signs. Whoever had cursed him must have been fond of his pretty face to not marr it.

This time Geralt didn't save him. He twisted his head towards him and nodded towards her. If it were possible, Jaskier turned even more red. He chewed his lip nervously before answering.

“It doesn't work,” he mumbled.

“Sorry, what?”

“It. Doesn't. Work.”
