And that's the thing, isn't it, there's no objective reason why such a job should be inherently so stressful. Cooking a bunch of meals in the right order with different cooking times, etc, is always going to be complicated as hell, but not smoke-yourself-to-death-to-deal-with-it stressful.

Being a waiter shouldn't mean being a slave to the customers, shouldn't mean holding your face in a rictus smile no matter how you're treated, shouldn't mean living or dying based on how generous some random customers are,

but it's a self-fufilling prophecy, because everyone thinks of a restaurant job as the lowest of the low*, few are sympathetic to the idea that it shouldn't be a soul-sucking misery fest of a job.
