The common hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) is amazingly cool animal. It lives in sub-Saharan Africa. This guy is the third-largest type of land mammal after elephant and rhinoceros. The closest living relatives of hippo are cetaceans (whales, dolphins etc.). Sadly, hippos are threatened by of habitat loss and poaching for their meat and ivory canine teeth.

Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumathrae) are really cool and rare tiger subspecies from Indonesian island of Sumatra. They are only surviving members of the Sunda Islands group of tigers that included now extinct Bali tiger and Javan tiger. Sadly, these guys are critically endangered due to illegal hunting and deforestation. Only fewer than 400 sumatran tigers exist today. There are several endangered species conservation programs conserving Sumatran tigers in the wild, trying to reduce conflicts between tigers and humans, and rehabilitating Sumatran tigers and reintroducing them to their natural habitat.
