Considering that Einstein said that mass can be converted into energy (was it Einstein? He said something about Galileo and the speed of light…who knows), that explains why phoenixes don’t appear to follow the conservation of mass law when they transfer from bird to egg state in their cycle of rebirth - and why they light themselves on fire (converting mass to heat energy and light energy).
