𝒂𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒚 𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒕 sounds in cooper’s mind , starting off the new decade with a gig in one of his favourite beverly hills bars is the perfect way to kick it all off , and this is further established in his mind as the final chord of his closing song , ghost , echoes over the crowd that erupts into applause . it’s a euphoric feeling that he’s never tired of , the cheers and claps that are prompted by his music . “ thank you , ” the male mutters into the mic , his characteristically modest smile picking up the corners of his lips . “ look out for big things in 2020 . ” with a final wave , he hoists his guitar off over his head and ducks off the stage into the small backstage area where his beloved instrument is taken from him to get packed away and a shot is immediately thrust into his hand . cooper immediately downs the mysterious liquor , which turns out to be a sharp whiskey that burns the back of his throat — just as he likes it . taking a towel that is offered to him to wipe the sweat that’s soaked his dark hair from the performance , cooper ducks out of the busy backstage area and enters the main area of the bar , already in search of a new drink to warm his veins . as he approaches the bar , he immediately spies a familiar face on his route and a grin finds his lips , always grateful when his friends make appearances at his gigs . “ enjoy the show ? ” he asks as he approaches , his attention momentarily diverted from his primary destination : the bar .
𝒂𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒅 , cooper can hear the pike house before he actually sees it — the athletically - inclined society always promising some of the most rowdy parties the hworth campus sees all year . tonight was certainly no different , as a mass invite had been spread across campus for the society’s annual “ post - finals / pre - break rager ” for everyone to get all their sillies out before returning home to their silver spoons and fine china . donning his usual conspicuously luxurious leather jacket and a pair of fitted black jeans , the tall male exudes the exact energy he’d been hoping to tonight : don’t talk to me . with his head bowed , cooper skips up the steps of the pike house and slinks in through the front door , avoiding the gazes of all who were lounging on the large front porch . usually , a party like this would bring out cooper’s exuberantly charming side , but tonight something weighs on his conscious that makes it difficult to fall into his usual demeanour . with a dark curl hanging in his eyes , cooper navigates swiftly through the crowded main floor , heading towards the bar that he knows is tucked away in the corner — just because he isn’t here to have a good time doesn’t mean he can’t drink away the weight burdening him . fingers wrap around a red plastic cup and he fills it with a generous amount of expensive whiskey , taking a quick swig before his free hand fumbles inside the pocket of his jacket until his fingertips touch the plastic bag he’d tucked away earlier . like clockwork , the text from holling flashes across his vision and cooper takes another drink , as if in an attempt to swallow away his worries . his hand quickly retracts from the baggie in his pocket and reaches up to push back his dark hair . when he notices how shaky his hand is , cooper balls it into a fist and immediately drops it to his side . he’s furious at holling for pulling this sort of prank on him — if you could even call it that — but he’s more furious at himself for falling prey to the weight of his secret , one that would surely destroy any hope he had of maintaining any ties to his family . an addict has no place within the averna family , he can hear his father whisper in the back of his mind , a phrase that has haunted his dreams ever since he overheard his parents hushed whispers upon his return from europe all those years ago .
𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 drink of whiskey , cooper pushes away his father’s voice and turns around to look around the party . as his gaze falls upon numerous unfamiliar faces , the temptation of just slipping it to some random party - goer crosses his mind once again , but cooper’s guilt would likely only worsen . there’s no way of him being able to check on them the next day and ensuring his actions hadn’t had dire consequences . once more , he reverts back to the only person he’d feel the least amount of guilt for slipping a “ party favour ” , because he knows they’ve done much worse than what cooper currently has hidden in his leather jacket and could handle a little added excitement to their night .
𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 fate has a twisted way of reading his mind , river’s laugh bellows out from over the bass of the music pounding through the pike house , drawing cooper’s gaze to the tall athlete cheering across the room . his smile , as usual , is almost infectious — almost . cooper bites the inside of his cheek to keep himself from joining in on river’s fun , the memories he’s made with the pike boy reverberating through his mind . any other night , and he’d be right there by river’s side , cheering him on as he downed another shout and laughing along to whatever joke he’s telling . cooper tears his gaze from his friend and reaches into his pocket , fingers brushing plastic once more , and he takes a deep breath before downing the last of the whiskey in his cup . if he’s gonna do it , he has to do it now , before he inevitably chickens out or gets caught . with a shaky hand , cooper crumples the plastic cup and drops it to the floor before crossing the room to where river stood with his buddies , far too caught up in the game of beer pong he’s watching to notice cooper coming up behind him . blue eyes locate rivers drink — a plastic cup full of whatever concoction river is relying upon tonight — and , drawing the baggie from his pocket , cooper hovers behind river for a moment . they’re almost identical in height , so he’s looking at the back of the brunet’s curly head , and he squeezes his eyes shut against river’s laughter before he looks down at the small bag he clutches in his hand . a moment of temptation flickers in the back of his mind , the memory of the high drawing him in like a moth to a flame , but he forcefully shakes it away — a difficult thing to do , but he regretfully admits to himself that it’s only because his own stash awaits him at home . just do it , you fuck , he chastises himself before swiftly ripping the bag open , reaching forward , and dropping the single tiny pill it held into river’s drink and immediately turning away and disappearing into the crowd , the only thing left on his to - do list for the night being to return home , keep an eye on his phone , and indulge in his own high .
* ╱ i admit that I'm a lil' messed up , but i can hide it when I'm all dressed up . i'm obsessive and i love too hard , good at overthinking with my heart . how you even think it got this far ?
california’s rising star took to instagram to post an image teasing a new tattoo , and while it may seem mundane to most , cooper’s close friends and dedicated fans know that many of his tattoos correspond to his songs — and that he usually gets them to commemorate finishing a new song . it’s been some time since the musician released a new song , his most recent being the final single from his debut album and the album’s title track : ‘ you haunt me ’ back in the late spring of this year — meaning the songwriter is long overdue for a new release .
found @c.jave , his signature handle , cooper’s spotify profile is likely the most active of his social media accounts — although he is heightening his instagram presence because he understands it’s good for “ exposure ” , spotify remains his most used platform because music truly is his biggest passion . although his profile has garnered just over two hundred thousand followers , his primary use of the platform is for himself . he’s created playlists for almost all of his moods , all occasions , and follows over three hundred artists — both indie and mainstream . his broad taste in music is clearly displayed through his playlists , although it is easy to find the link between each artist that leads back to his own music — which has still yet to be posted on spotify , but he’s hoping to get his second album onto the platform upon its release . highlighted above is one of cooper’s most favoured playlists , the one compiled of songs cooper loves to play before any of his performances , which can be found here .
she sat perched on the bar, battered combat boots resting comfortably on the stool in front of her. a small brightly colored umbrella spun mindlessly between her fingers as she focused on the task at hand - thumb and forefinger pressed together, working to reveal numbers to a scratch ticket that sits daintly on her knees. she pauses when she sees a figure stop next to her; there’s at least five drinks that surround her - each one more vibrantly colored than the last, with a small umbrella dropped into the cup to match. slender shoulders lift, offering them a shrug. “couldn’t decide what i wanted so i just… made everything i was feeling. want one?” green hues only briefly meet theirs, before their focused back on the lottery ticket, “what’s the first thing you would buy if you won two hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars?” it’s the top prize in the brightly colored ticket that’s occupied her attention, and she knows it may as well be two dollars to most at this party “ – i mean it’s different, isn’t it? winning the money, vs. the money you’ve got sitting in your bank account? like you just have to do something so outlandish and borderline fucking crazy with your winnings. – do you know how many people dream of winning even the smallest portion of the lottery?”
𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒆 had lit up his phone , cooper set his sights on yet another party to liven up his night . his finals had ended earlier in the week , but he is still using the semester wrapping up as an excuse to let loose in the middle of the week . with an abundance of alcohol warming his blood , cooper saunters down from the upper floor of the off - campus penthouse , itching at his nose nonchalantly as he rejoins the festivities on the main floor . his grasp is visibly empty of a drink , so he pushes through the hot crowd to where the bar is set up in the corner of the large living room . he’s so busy eyeing the row of liquor bottles lining the wall that he almost doesn’t notice the blonde perched atop the marble countertop of the bar until she speaks . usually , he’d pay a stranger no mind , but the familiarity of the voice catches cooper’s attention and he glances to lock eyes with tinsley briefly , his gaze then following hers down to the lottery tickets she’s busy scratching . a brow perks up curiously as he laughs at her question , intently watching as she scratches the ticket and gives him yet another reason to be unequivocally intrigued by the blonde . leaning an elbow against the bar , noticeably close to where the female was perched , cooper leans closer to get a better look at the ticket . “ wow , the claws are out tonight , huh ? ” he replies with a smirk . “ i see you’re putting them to good use though . ” cooper nods down to the ticket she’s scratching . “ i’ll cross my fingers for you . although those are a scam — you’re sooner to sprout wings and fly around this penthouse than actually win the jackpot advertised . ”
𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐀 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍’𝐒 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐈 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌 𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐑𝐀 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐌 . it’s not that solitude is something that frightens him , per se : admittedly , bodhi makes the most of alone time to rationalize some of his most exaggerated antics . but there’s something about cooper avera’s presence , steadfast , calming , gloomy on his best days and morose on his worst , that keeps bodhi’s head on his shoulders just as much as he keeps coop on his toes . “ can i ask you somethin ’ big guy ? you remember that shit from way back when with that bum ass recording studio we set up in the casita of your parent’s summer home ? ”
there’s a grin on bodhi’s face that could claim near - permanent residence there , dimples punctuating the hollows of crinkled cheeks . his head tilts curiously to the side as he tries to gauge the other male’s reaction , always one to hope to get something out of even the most stoic of his companions . “ those half-assed demos we turned out were absolute horseshit but i’m sure we both have legions of fangirls frothing at the mouth to know what we got up to in our youth . ” he’s something of a sentimental , he’d readily admit , thinking fondly and often of the years spent growing up alongside the averna’s side . bodhi’s put people through his fair share of trials and testaments , but cooper averna’s willingness to brave even the most chaotic of the goodman boy’s phases had earned him bodhi’s unyielding loyalty — something emphasized in the near daily facetime calls he all but demands of the otherwise reclusive cryptid . poking a finger playfully into his friend’s ribs , he arches a brow in mischievous glee as he recalls a particular phase of coop’s he weathered with equal patience . “ you wouldn’t happen to have kept any of that , right ? kinda like how i tried to keep alive every single photo of you with a bieber swoop in case i ever need to 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐘𝐎𝐔? ”

𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 crackling in the fireplace of the lavish apartment he shares with his good friend , christian , cooper feels utterly at peace in the large living room . his fingers are loosely gripping a dull pencil that hovers above his journal , his brain having met a temporary roadblock in the lyrics he’d previously been scrawling . the melody hums in the back of his mind and his lips purse as he tries to search his mind for the rest of the song that has been stuck in his mind for days now . thankfully , the voice of his companion stirs him from his thoughts and draws cooper out of the world inside his head — back to reality . with a blink , the male looks up from his journal to glance at bodhi , a grin curling his lips as soon as his brain registers his longtime friend’s request . “ man , ” he begins with a wistful sigh . “ i haven’t thought about those in ages . ” thinking back on the memories he’d made with his closest childhood friend as they’d locked themselves away for hours at a time to fool around with the make - shift studio they’d set up , cooper almost shudders at how distant the memory is . compared to where cooper is now — sitting in his own apartment with a journal of lyrics sprawled in his lap — the days of him and bodhi goofing around feel like another lifetime . with a laugh , cooper flips his journal closed and uses it to whack bodhi’s shoulder at the other’s goading . “ oh , don’t you dare even try to act like you’ve always been mr pretty boy . i happen to know of a particularly embarrassing yearbook photo of yours from middle school that i’m sure would love to see the light of day once again . ” he winks and straightens up from his slouched position on the sofa before reflecting back to bodhi’s original topic . “ i believe i might have a few of those saved on my hard drive . you know i hate to delete shit . ” with a laugh , he stands up from the sofa to approach the glass desk nestled in the corner that holds his desktop computer . “ might take a bit of digging , i have so much shit on this thing , ” coop mutters as he sits down to log onto the computer . “ may i ask just what you plan on doing with them if i do find them ? ” with a smirk , he glances over his shoulder at bodhi as the computer boots up , ever suspicious of what new antics the other was getting up to . not that he'd stand in the way , it is pure curiosity the prompts the question .
