Was really super sad to hear of Keith Sonnier’s passing yesterday. He was always one of my absolute favourite artists for his fantastic manipulation of colored light as line and his commissioned lighting designs. RIP to a master of light.

This page from Drawing Papers 29 features Tablet 65, made by Ellsworth Kelly in 1960.

The 2002 exhibition Ellsworth Kelly, Tablet: 1949–1973 presented 180 fascinating never before seen drawings by the major contemporary artist Ellsworth Kelly. The artist selected 188 of his working drawings to be included in the exhibition, which was curated by Yve-Alain Bois. Generated by an aesthetic of found object, the group includes drawings and notes that Kelly executed on scraps of paper – newspaper cuttings, letters, wrappers, photographs and so on. For almost 30 years, the sheets assembling the informal studies and cutouts were set aside as working drawings, but, once discovered, they provide insight into the artist’s creative processes and his most personal inspirations.
