Corey D. Williams
“My name is Corey D. Williams, and I am an educator! I chose the field of education because I wanted to make a positive impact in the lives of others. I come from a family of educators, and I would have to say that it was my mother who inspired me to become an educator. I can recall the relationships that my mother had with her students, and the love that they displayed for her. I knew early on that I wanted to make that same type of impact, but I also knew that I wanted my impact to extend beyond my classroom. That is why I wanted to become a principal. As a teacher, I taught Exceptional Education and recognized that there was a disproportionate amount of African American males being given this classification. I also noticed that there was a startling number of discipline problems that caused minority students to either be suspended or left behind academically. I wanted to make a change and instill in others what my parents instilled in me, a strong sense of core values, the importance of getting an education, and the understanding that there are no shortcuts in life and that one must work hard in order to achieve goals, accepting no “handouts.” It was my belief that my 5A’s mantra, (Attitude, Actions, Accountability, Appearance and Achievement) was the necessary recipe to ensure student success. I have worked tirelessly to make sure that the students that I encounter understand the importance of these things as well. I am extremely excited about the opportunities that our school has been able to afford our students under my leadership. From our International Baccalaureate Programme to our strong mentorship programs founded on student interest, we have created opportunities for students to engage in a way that teaches them the importance of giving back to their community and also helps them find their niche. Some people choose professions and work for years unfulfilled without making a difference. On the contrary, I have been blessed to do something that I love and serve as an example for our youth daily, knowing that our team’s hard work has enhanced the educational opportunities for others, ultimately improving the human condition.”
