Than on day 6-7 it was time for the amazing Taj Mahal. We got up at 4am so we could be the first one inn to see the incredible building. The building was just as spectacular that everybody is saying. With the sunrise in the background and not many peoples around, we got the perfect pictures and impressions. I have been waiting so long for this, and now I am finely here, it is amazing, don't have words for it. And the love story that's following this building is so beautiful, will touch every soul. Fun fact, is that the poles on every side of Taj Mahal is 80 degrees and not 90, so that it will look straight from every angle and length. In the evening it was time for Agra fort and baby Taj Mahal. Again two amazing buildings, with great story's to it. Lots of props to the guide that showed us around these places, he was really good, and got everyones attention. Maybe the best day in India! The most important day so far...
Day 5 we travelled to the local village Tordi Sagar. We had a beautiful walk around the village, and also a fun camel cart ride into a stunning sunset on the nearby sand dunes. Actually this would be a very romantic trip, if we were not 15 peoples on the trip. Haha We got two girls from the village to make us the traditional henna tattoo. That was so much fun for two days, then I just wanted to get rid of it. Haha but it lasted for more... :( In the evening it was time for party! Hope, was turning 21 after midnight so that had to be celebrated. It was such a good party, so I guess everyone had a great time. Maybe I have to relive a secret... because everyone is probably going to know sooner or later, Yes I fell asleep in the bathroom floor. Certainly not cool, I'm so embarrassed!! And the next day we had a horrible bus journey to Agra through Abhaneri. Visiting the Abhaneri step wells and Fatephur Sikri. It took us eight hours, and everybody had a big hangover, so not the best day...
Namaste! India We started our tour in Delhi, where we got a city tour by the local street kids, a Planeterra-supported project. Planeterra's New Delhi Streetkids Project supports over 5000 children that has run away from home, or lost their parents. Then we spent the day exploring more of Delhi, by visiting the famous Jama Masjid (Great Mosque). Next was an early morning bus journey to Jaipur (the pink city), the capital of Rajasthan. Since jaipur is known for jewelry, we had to visit a jewelry shop, and of course was Henriette and me the ones that used the longest time in the shop. But we got some nice things for a very good price. We also had the pleasure to experience a Bollywood movie! I have always thought that a Bollywood movie would be a bad movie with bad filming and stuff, but it was actually a pretty good movie. The film had a very simple story, so even when I didn't understand the language, I still got the story. And I think that everybody in the group had a good time watching Heropanti! And the movie song was really catching, so everyone is walking around whistling it. The song is called: Whistle Baja Ke. After breakfast on day 4 we visited the ruined city of Amber, former capital of Jaipur state. Overlooking the artificial lake of Amber town stands the Amber Fort/ palace complex, famous for its mixture of Hindu and Muslim architecture. And in the evening exploring the spice marked.
Then we were done with the continent of Africa for now. It's been an adventure! In that time we have have petted lions, go skydiving climbed Kilimanjaro, hosted on safari and lying on the beach in Zanzibar. We did also experience to celebrate 17th of may, and the constitution of 200 years anniversary. We have made friends that we will remember for the rest of our life. In general we have had a fantastic time in Africa. And we even got to learn some swahili words. Jambo/mambo= hi Kwahiri= bye Karibu= welcome Mini= I Wewe= you Shule=school Twende=let's go Pole pole= slowly slowly Kazi nzuri= good job nzuri asubuhi= good morning Lala salama= good night Vipi= what's up:) And much more...
Zanzibar 🙌
Then it was finally time to just relax on the beach in zanzibar. We arrived zanzibar by plane and went again six days after, but then by boat. We stayed in a super cozy hostel, named Sagando. It had some reggae style to it, which I thought was cool. During the days we spent in zanzibar, we got to do alot of different things. We became good friends with the locals, so they showed us around in Stone Town, and we also got to go to a beach party. So fun. We also got to try out the local buses called dala dala. They were always full of adults, children, food and drink. A completely separate experience itself. One of the days we were in zanzibar we went up to the north side of the island, Nungwi. There we met Becky, Hilda, and Timothy. As we earlier time had become friends with on the Kilimanjaro trip. We had a lovely dinner on the beach at the water's edge. It got a little late, you could say, as kind as Becky is, we got to sleep in her room that night. 💋 Since we are now traveling in the low season, there were neither guests on the hotel or at the beach. In general, little tourists on the island. But I can not complain because we had the beach all to ourselves. Absolutely unreal, the beach was chalk white and silky. The temperature of the water was so good. One can safely be said that Zanzibar is a paradise.
Safari After nearly a week on the beautiful mountain Kilimanjaro, it was time for the safari. This we did with GAdventure as well. We went from Moshi to Arusha, there we meet our new CEO. On this trip we were only three persons, Henrietta Thomas and me. As company we had a CEO, a driver and a private chef. And the chef was absolutely amazing, he made so insanely good food, and it was very impressive because they had no real kitchen. We had to stay in tents also on safari, but this was a kind of luxury camping since we had a shower and toilet in the camps. We started our safari to visit The village - Mto wa Mbu,-whose name means "mosquito river". Has over 18,000 inhabitants from 120 tribes. We got a glimpse of how they live, what they do to make money, and the food they eat. We got to taste the banana beer, banana wind, and different cuisines. We also learned that Tanzania produces 30 different banana types, which are used for different things, and that a tree only produces bananas once. After we visited the village, we went up to Lake Manyara National Park. There we did seen almost everything, elephants, lions, Buffelo, zebra, ...... Day # 2, we started by visiting Eleyo Masai village. It was incredibly fascinating, we were welcomed with dancing and singing, and after a bit we had to join them. Super fun. We did get to see the inside of the houses, to see how they lived. The house were completely dark, without lights. The house consisted only of a large room with two beds. They slept on beds covered with cow leather. And in the corner of the room they had made a fire so they could get some heat, which meant that the room was full of smoke. So you felt you were slightly poisoned by being there. Haha We learned that men just eat meat, vegetables and fruit were just for the animals, and women. They drank milk and blood, and they thought if you mixed both milk and blood, you will get very strong. We also learned that they did circumcision for both boys and girls when they were around 10 to 14 years, without any painkillers or proper equipment. Insanity if you ask me. But this they had to do in secret, since it's illegal, especially for girls. Otherwise they were nice and very welcoming. And they would buy Henriette two elephants and eighty cows. Then continued the next two days in the Serengeti national park. There we got to see all the animals except form rhino and cheetahs. So it was good that we spent some time with the cheetahs in South Africa. In the evenings when we sat around the fire, we could hear both lion roaring and hyenas, we even got a hyena inside the camp, but when we shone the flashlight against it, it ran away. At night we could hear them wander around in the trash. A little bit scary. The last day we visited Ngorongoro Crater. That is an old volcano that was completely flattened out after its last eruption. Super nice to stand on the edge of cratere and see beyond. Absolutely beautiful. All together a great week on safari:)
