AFTER SPENDING the entire day together, hitting the town and causing CHAOS, it only felt right to wind down with some welcomed relaxation. Sitting atop a tall hill overlooking the BLEAK outskirts of Tomoshi, Luffy devoured the dinner they’d packed while Nicolette leaned against a tree ( watching HIM ). The sun was just beginning to set, coloring the sky in an array of pinks, blues and purples; meanwhile, a slight breeze rustled leaves and the occasional stray lock of dark hair. It was quiet, save for noisy chewing and the distant city — it was CALM.
She continued to watch Luffy, and in that moment of rare SERENITY, with a halo of golden light framing him, she was sure she’d never seen anything ( or ANYONE ) so beautiful.
So PERFECT.
The sight was one she would not soon forget, and despite the fear of BREAKING the tranquility, she wanted to do something that would truly make it special. Turning for just a moment, she scanned the area before her gaze found whatever it was looking for. Reaching out, she plucked the prettiest RED ROSE she could find, careful to mind the thorns, before settling back down beside him. While he was distracted, she began tearing the dangerous little fangs off the stem, frowning as they SLICED into her fingertips, much like paper cuts.
Unaffected, but concerned nonetheless, Luffy turned towards her, lips parting as if to question her only to be effectively silenced once the flower was tucked behind his ear. He sat there, dark red petals framing his YOUTHFUL features, an expression of CONFUSION on his face. She smiled, wondering if perhaps he could feel the incredible amount of LOVE it held despite its hesitance and small size.
She supposed he probably did, as he grinned back, wide and unapologetic ( oh how she ADORED the look of it ). That was the only exchange as they returned to their respective interests — Luffy eating, and Nicolette admiring him.
They no longer needed WORDS. Maybe they never did.
