he sees her , past the gates and runs towards her “ isla ! isla! ”

               unprompted.

they'd told her that a new group would be coming in today. aaron had been tailing them, through the storm and heatwave. said they were good people: well, there she disagreed. good people didn't exist in this world anymore, and isla had made her opinion very clear. luke knew she didn't mean it, knew that the loss of their first group still ached in her bones. her loss of optimism was a result of pain.

the gates opened, and she barely gives it a glance over her shoulder. she'd tried next, to move past her brother and into their home. grumbling over having to get ready for dinner, but luke stopped her. the matching ceruleans frozen and fixated on the gate. no words, only the call of her name from his lips and his rough hands spinning her around. ❛❛ what the fuck, luke! ❜❜ curses slipped, but then her name came again. but not from him. it's a familiar voice, something almost detached, something she'd heard a thousand times in her memories. fading memories.

her reaction was instantaneous. the irritation vanished, and gaze locked on glenn. and she'd hardly had time to realize what was happening, her feet hit the floor faster than luke could yell at the guards to lower their weapons. her lungs burned, tears falling and she's sure the residents had never seen her so emotional. their bodies collide, isla jumping to wrap her entire self around him and damned be the air being sucked out of her.

the shock of his body warmth against her body was welcomed. needed, even, and the wretched sob that ripped itself from her mouth was something between a wounded animal and relief. face deeply buried into his neck, nails digging into her forearms wrapped around him to ground her, to assure yourself that glenn, this man, was not another one of her dreams. ❛❛ glenn. it's really you. oh my god, it's really you. it is, right? ❜❜

barely a breeze , his arm beneath her head like a pillow. cell door open as others outside shuffled around. piece of cloth separates them from the rest, providing some source of privacy. the two go back and forth about who liked each other first. guess you could say love warps how you see each other the first time because he was speechless at first when isla and luke had arrived. “ is that so? ” chest vibrates , raven locks damp against his forehead as chocolate hues fixate on her features. shifting against mattress “ i might hold that over you, ” he teased, leaning forward , stealing a kiss.

it feels like a shift, a drastic change of her view of what mornings bring. climb out of bed, get her assigned duties for the day, then fall back asleep once the sun sets. but now, she looks forward to the wake up calls now, knowing she'll be in his arms and tucked into him. luke teases her, but he means well. still, it doesn't save him from the withering glares and ear pulls whenever he mentioned their morning glow. ❛❛ as long as you stay right here, then go ahead. ❜❜ his kiss is always light, soft and she melts into it every time. fingers brush through raven hair, nails gently dragging against scalp as she pushes herself closer. the weight of her body now partially on him, over him as she presses another kiss on his lips before pulling away, looking downwards at him. ❛❛ i like you. ❜❜
