āThey have a baby... Itās crazy.ā Caleb ran a hand through his hair and started to pace.Ā āItās... weird. He seems so young, Norma. Doesnāt he?ā He crossed his arms.Ā āNorma, you need... You need to be there for him, too. Heās going to need you, you know?ā He swallowed hard.Ā āOr itās going to hurt.ā

Caleb rolled his shoulders and prepared for another day. He hated working at this damn club - the number of creepy dudes he saw trying to put their hands all over the dancers was ridiculous, and if some of these girls were 18 then he was the king of England. But the number of places who would hire somebody without looking into their background at all was getting smaller, so he didnāt have a lot of options.
He pushed through the barrier that let him behind the bar and looked to see what the hell the previous shiftās guy had done with all the tequila. Just another day.
Bradley was lingering by the bar, her shift was almost over and as soon as she saw the familiar bartender, her eyes lit up, āHey, Caleb, how much do you love me?ā she utters as she kneels on one of the bar stools, elbows leaning against the bar counter and she leans forward practically bent over the thing as she watches him with wide bright eyes. She tended to bother him a lot, maybe it was because he felt familiar somehow or maybe it was because she knew heād kick anyoneās ass who came too close to her. āHmmm?ā she urges.
Caleb smiled and stepped back towards the bottles that lined the back wall.Ā āWhat am I getting myself into?ā he asked, gesturing towards the drinks.Ā āIs this a drink request... or something more? And... I love you a lot.ā
Happy National Sibling Day Norma Louise!!

Brother, what a road we have traveled, hmm? The only reason I even got through my childhood was you. I needed your hand to hold, for you to tell me it was going to be okay. I believed you, trusted you. I know things happened that neither of us should be proud of, but Iām not going to talk about it. It happened and thatās that. No need to dwell on the past. We are moving on from it and we have a long way to go before either of us will be completely healed from the mess we both found ourselves in, but I do care about you and I would never wish anything badly for you. About Dylan, Iām sorry that you found out the way you did that heās your son. I should have been honest with you and that was my mistake, but I didnāt know what to say at the time. I was so young and I didnāt want you to get mad at me. I am glad that he knows who his father really is.Ā
P.S. I love you, Caleb even if I canāt say it out loud.Ā

I'm not crying, it's just raining on my face...
Uncle who?
āItās not the jungle,ā Caleb protested,Ā āIt was a very nice little resort town. Lovely, really.ā He mimed shoving the teenager out of the couch.Ā āMy bed. Also, no one will be drunk. I promise. Iām good with kids. I ran the Aqua Zumba class at the hotel in Costa Rica. Kids love me.ā
He picked up a pillow and began to pat it, his eyes fluttering as he let out a low yawn.Ā
āIāve been traveling all night,ā he told them.

Caleb wanted someone to kill, to beat up, to blame for every awful thing these people had done to Norma and every bad thing heād done to her, too. It wasnāt fair, wasnāt right. He kept pounding until he had to stop himself. This wasnāt what was important. Norma was important. He needed to get her to safety and worry about retribution later. Or maybe never.

Norma Bates is too cute for this world.Ā
[[ Has anyone else noticed that Caleb isnāt quite well mentally? And not just the obvious PTSD and likely results of being beaten/hit over the head throughout his life. I mean, an actual bit of something else going on in his head that he canāt control/isnāt his fault. Whatās leading me to this even more than just the regular signs is this recent development of him also slightly hallucinating Norma/Mother. Now, donāt get me wrong, I know for certain that at least PART of it is just him being almost completely unable to cope with whatās going on, but the fact that heās even seeing Norma/Mother in the way that he is āitās okay, weāre holding hands, peace now, etcā reminds me a LOT of how Norman sees Norma and/or Mother. So Iām wondering. Is it possible that some of Normanās mental instabililty is inherited, but not just from who we immediately assume (Norma)? Is it possible that weāre seeing at least a few of the same signs of illness in Caleb as we are Norman? ]]
I agree with this. Iām not exactly sure whatās going on with Caleb... But whatever it is, thereās a lot of it. I have thought for a while that Caleb and Norma both may have Borderline Personality Disorder (or something in that general wheelhouse).
Caleb definitely has his ownĀ āvisionā of Norma that heās had for a while now - even the way he talked about knowing she was out there somewhere; I think in a way, Caleb always carried that idea of Norma with him, though whether it manifested in the same way or not, Iām not sure.Ā
It would have been interesting to see more of Frannie in flashbacks, actually, to see how much either of them got from her. But alas, I think that ship may have sailed!

Caleb had been traveling for a long time. He wasnāt sure when he had last eaten, or when he had last slept. All there was, was the van and the road ahead. And Norma, forever behind his eyes and urging him onward.Ā
He thought it was a mirage when he reached the motel parking lot, and maybe it was. He didnāt know what he was doing here, but he knew that in a way, he had come home.
He shut the door and walked up to the front door of the house. He knocked.
Being the busy bee she was, Norma Bates hummed along to the radio that was playing oldies tunes while she stood at the stove, making breakfast for Norman in the kitchen.Ā
The young male was still asleep and she wasnāt going to wake him until he was ready. He had a rough night. The food could always be re-heated, anyway.
When she heard a noise at her door, she licked her finger, the syrup tasting sweet on her tongue and she wiped her hands over her apron before making her way over to see who wanted her attention.Ā
āCaleb? What are you doing here?ā She whispered softly, lightly closing the door so Norman couldnāt hear if he happened to get up.
Calebās eyes turned down to the ground and he slowly raised it again with a sheepish smile.
āI donāt have anywhere else to go,ā he said at last, simply. He rubbed at his neck.Ā āIām so tired⦠Norma.ā
āWhoah, whoah. Okay. Hang on there. Letās get you inside.ā Norma could see that her brother was seconds away from passing out in front of her doorstep and she didnāt need that this morning. Placing her arm around his shoulders, she helped him walk in, keeping a firm hold on him.Ā āHere, sit down and Iāll get you some coffee. Black or cream?ā Once they made their way to the living room, she seated him gently against the couch.
Caleb sunk into the couch cushion, letting out a low sigh and closing his eyes.Ā āNorma⦠I took a bus here⦠And then a car. A bus-car. Iām so tiredā¦.ā He reached up and began to rub his temples with his hands.Ā āI thought that maybe something happened to you. Maybe⦠something bad.ā
Okay, he was for sure losing his marbles in her living room. A worried look on her face, Norma watched her brother slowly start to become delusional and she guessed it was from lack of sleep. Taking up the spot next to him, she gently sat down and lightly grazed his arm with her hand, his skin feeling cold.Ā āCaleb, youāre freezing! Itās not chilly outside, is it? You need to get warmed up. Are you sick? Coffee will definitely be of some help, Iām sure.ā Grabbing a blanket, she wrapped him up like a burrito and stood back up.Ā āIām okay. Iām here. You just rest, okay? Iām going to get you something hot to drink.ā Making her way to the kitchen, she was quiet, hoping that Norman would stay in bed and not come down to investigate where all the racket was coming from.
Caleb drew his legs up to his chest, clinging to the blanket and shivering hard.Ā āI didnāt hear from you for a long time. I kept thinking about that phone call, when you were asking after me. And then⦠I worried that you must have been in danger. That the fallout got you. That Chick⦠found out about you and must have done something.ā
Norma wished that Caleb wasnāt being so loud with his words. Any noise, any peep would disturb Norman when it came to his Mother. Even when the kid was asleep, he somehow knew what was going on around him. It was a gift. Luckily, she had already startedĀ a pot of coffee and only needed to add the cream into it. Stirring it with a spoon, she carefully brought it over to her brother, setting it down on the table in front of him.Ā āDrink. Then weāll talk. As for right now, Iām fine. You can see that, but I do need you to keep your voice down. Norman is still in bed and if he hears youā¦ā Norma bit her lip, pulling at her hair a bit. She had to admit, she wasnāt too keen on the idea of Caleb being here,Ā alone with her, but she couldnāt just leave him by himself when he was so upset.Ā
āHas he been⦠I know, the last time I was here, we talked about⦠him⦠and the things he does.ā He knew that Norma wasnāt going to want to hear it, but she needed to - if it wasnāt Chick who was after Norma, maybe the tap-tap-tapping in his brain was warning him about the ever-present danger from Norman. He couldnāt shake the look in his eyes as he had accused him, as he had threatened him with a knife. Norma would be helpless.Ā
āCaleb, Iā¦ā What could she say about Norman? Her brother didnāt need to know that he had been in a psych ward, plus mental institution. It wasnāt any of his business. She couldnāt tell him anything when it came to her youngest son that wouldnāt get him in trouble. Tapping a few fingers against the bottom of her chin, she shrugged her shoulders, finding herself to be at a loss for words and the truth.Ā āHeās been fine. Heās been good. The blackoutsā¦theyāve calmed down a good bit. I think heās growing out of themā¦ā Norma bit her lip, wondering if her curious sibling would push this any further or let it go.Ā
āGrowing out of them?ā Caleb asked.Ā āI donāt think itās something that you can grow out of. I mean, Norma. I saw it - he thinks that heās you. He walks different, talks different. Acts different. A whole other⦠personality. Just like in that movie, Split.ā Caleb sucked in a breath and pushed it out again.Ā āNorma, you know he needs real help. He⦠what if heās got whatever Frannie had? What if he starts acting like her? Do you waitĀ ātil he has a kid of his own?ā
āHeās doing better, Caleb. Things are betterā¦ā There was a strong pleading look in her blue hues and Norma wished the subject of Norman would just be dropped already. It was too early to be thinking of all this.Ā āYeah. I know you did. You told me all about it. I remember. You came by to tell me you were leaving and you sneaked that little fact in there.ā She huffed, tapping her foot on the carpet.Ā āIs this why you came here? To tell me about my son? God. Itās like everyone knows him more than I do or something!ā Putting a finger to her lips, she shushed herself, not wanting to yell.Ā
āNo, I came back because... Why arenāt you and Dylan talking? What happened? He said he hasnāt talked to you in over a year. I was worried and thought that... I didnāt know what might have happened. I got into some things when I was here, and I thought it might have come back on you.ā Caleb leaned in and let out a long sigh.Ā
