This is an older project from around summer time. For some reason I never got around to posting it. Mardonian Female Sorceress from the upcoming pc game The Soul Keeper.
This was a great project to work on. Clearly I’m focused on the stylized sculpts atm. I would have enjoyed posting a nice zbrush beauty shot of the full body but, my computer is pooping out haha. SO, I did an unplanned low poly version just so I could get a cool marmoset view. I’m still learning the in’s and out’s of optimizing low poly characters but I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. Shout out to Hong SoonSang for the original “Knight” concept art. http://hongsoonsang.tumblr.com/
I finished this sculpt (full body) about two months ago. But at a poly count of only 40 mill my computer refuses to render it all together in zbrush. So, this is kinda the best I can show atm. original concept art by Hong SoonSang https://www.artstation.com/artist/soonsanghong54
Just toying around
I had an art test this past week that really pushed me to some of my limits. The experience reminded me a lot of a finals week back in college. On top of working my actual paying gigs, I had to fit this in at night or whenever I had a spare moment. I learned Marvelous Designer to set it up and sculpted in zbrush. Final renders were done in Marmoset and I’m pretty happy with it- though I see a lot of room for improvement! This was kind of a trial by fire, and I always learn the best that way. The next one will be even better.

The blogs been quiet for a couple weeks I know, not due to a lack of work on my part though. I just wrapped the demo reel and website maybe Friday and have tried to distribute them to worthwhile game companies in the LA area, unfortunately its a slow time of year in regards to new hires so we’ll have to wait and see. The original plan was to hold off until I had 5 brand new never before seen models and THEN make a demo reel, but that just seems unrealistic and impractical, so I made a grab bag of slightly new and slightly old, and I’m pretty happy with the results. The quality is there, the corners that still need to be rounded off and refined are there too, things that I’m struggling to get better at without direction from people who know what they’re doing. You can find all my latest work and portfolio at my site www.cottonmothcrown.com Stay tuned here for more frequent WIPs!
Quick sketch for the today to take a break from Zeke. Testing out the aesthetics I want for my Moth King project (which is down the road). Still need to render my wireframes and get a demo reel together that includes zeke next. Hopefully will get that done tomorrow.
I'm wrapping up the render and turn around portion of this sculpt. There's more I would have like to have pushed with it but my computer has been chugggggging with each new step and I think it's time to move on. So heres the beauty shot! Any feedback is welcome! I'll begin working on his sister soon and she will be in the same style so critique is great. Part 1 of 2 of my Zombies Ate My Neighbors homage is complete!
Textures are 97% Complete! I'm ready to crank up the caffeine and finish the game ready version! So from this point I'll finish up that 3% texture I gotta do. From there its a lot of exporting and organizing .obj's and .psd's and THEN importing to xNormals to bake out my normals, ao, textures, spec, etc. And the you can expect a few Marmoset renders. Then this character goes on the backburner until I can craft his sister. If my timeline doesn't get totally skewed the two should be featured together in a posed diorama later on. Pretty happy so far! Room for improvement but I can see quite a bit of improvement compared to previous models, and as for my first cartoonish character I'm pretty pleased! Btw this is still using the Comocro Gumclay Material, just with 1 colorize setting turned way down :)
Still working out the wrinkles and how to do the hair. Almost solid topology, just got a couple more assets to retopo. Then on to UVing and texturing! Any critiques welcome, I've been staring at it a little too long.
