Dana's just going to sit by her sleeping sister and smooth her hair back.
Years of caring for an ailing husband and raising two babies have made Rosalie a very, very light sleeper. So when Dana starts smoothing her hair back, it doesn’t take long for her to wake. When she does, she wishes she hadn’t. Sleeping on days like this had become the norm when the girls weren’t there.
“Ciao, sorellina.”

“I’ve slept most the day.” Yet still, she feels like she needs more It’ll pass though and in time, she pushes herself up to rest on her elbows. It’s a position she knows her body won’t let her hold for long, but she does it no less.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine.” It’s a lie, but she’s told it so frequently, hardened her heart so much, it flows off her tongue like the truth.
“Please, Rosalie, go back to sleep.”
