[ He set off for his communicator, finding it in the mess that his blanket pile is. Picking it up, Fwhip clicked on chat. ]

Pearl: yeah, earlier she said she was gonna go training. why?

Fwhip: nothing )

[He took a sharp breath, looking at the direction the training room is. ]

Oh no.

[ Fwhip walked over to the door, opening it. ]

Yeah you all really need it, btw I think you should probably first ask the people you want to take to group therapy if they really want to come there with you or if they would prefer alone, it's different for different people

[ Gem walks away from the castle as fast as she can considering her injuries, scowling as she mutters insults under her breath as she limps. She would have tried to get her staff, but it was made of corruption and she needed to convince the other rulers she was fine. ]

[ She stops, leaning on a nearby wall and taking heavy breaths, and she softens just a little when she sees the concerned looks Pearl and Fwhip are giving her. ]

I'll be ok guys, really. Nothing a good sleep and some healing potions can't fix.

[ She tries to stand again, only to fall back to the wall with a hiss of pain. ]

You two go ahead, I might be here for a while, but I'll meet you back at home.

[ Pearl scoffs, glaring at Gem disapprovingly. ]

You're about as far from fine as I am from ginger, Gem. No one is going ahead of anyone, either we leave this place together or I will carry you back in.

[ Gem pouts and she snickers. ] That's what I thought. Now come here-

[ Despite her protests, Pearl easily scoops Gem up, lightly shifting her so she can be as comfortable as possible. She spreads her wing to balance them as Gem squirms trying to get free. ]

Stop wiggling before I will drop you and make everything worse! Fwhip, ready to fly?

Yeah, lets go. Gem, calm down and stop acting like a feral cat.

[ Fwhip said, patting Gem’s head. ]

I’m ready for a nap!

A feral cat?!!

[ Gem splutters indignantly, wiggling to try and escape to chase after her brother, only to be bapped on the head with Pearl's wing. She settles on hissing at Fwhip instead, which admittedly does prove his point somewhat. ]

[ But she relaxes, knowing Pearl won't let her go and that it's easier to just go along with it. ]

I will be getting you two back for this, I hope you know that.

[ Her death glare is rendered slightly less effective by her current circumstances, and Pearl and Fwhip coo at her like she's a small child. ]

Yeah yeah, you sure are. I'm shaking in my boots at the thought, oh frightful Gem!

[ Pearl boops Gem's head again and smiles, tightening her hold on Gem comfortingly. ] Be good, smol one. We're leaving now, speak up if you feel weird.

[ With a flap of Pearl's wings, they take off, heading straight for home. For a long while, all she can hear is the rustling of the wind and the occasional rockets from Fwhip as the trio cut through the night sky, the usually boisterous twins suddenly quiet. ]

[ Concerned, Pearl steals a glance at Gem. Her head still rests against Pearl's arm, but Gem's eyes stare off into space blankly and her expression is downturned with sadness. On her side, Fwhip barely avoids a tree, also eyeing Gem worriedly. Pearl sighs. Stretching her tired wings a bit further, she starts. ]

Gem? How are you feeling?

[ Gem, who had been lost in her own thoughts, snaps back to reality at Pearl's voice. ]

I'll be fine Pearl, it's just...

A lot's happened tonight, you know? I had hoped tonight could have been a break from everything, and we could have just had some fun, but that clearly didn't end up happening.

[ Her eyes start to water and she tries to turn her head to hide it, but Pearl has already seen. ]

But despite all of that, despite the fight and the ritual and my-

[ She gets cut off by a sob, but forces herself to keep going. ]

My antlers, everything that's happened. If they had just come with us we would have been able to work it out together. But instead they betrayed us, and left with Joey.

[ There's no question of who 'they' are, and Gem half expects the corruption still wrapped around her heart to protest and punish her for talking badly about Xornoth, but it remains still and grows no hotter. ]

I thought they cared about us.

[ "About me." goes unsaid. ]

I just-

I trusted them.

[ Gem speaks, and Pearl's heart shatters pieces by pieces. That is Gem for them-- always so loving and forgiving, even to her worst enemies, to the ones who just moments before had threatened her life. Pearl can swear there will never be anyone half as trusting or as kind. After everything that has happened to Gem, she cannot even begin to fathom how her friend can remain so innocent. ]

[ Her wings shake and her stomach churns as the pain in Gem's voice grows with each sob. Underneath them, a large area of flat land comes into view, and Pearl nods at Fwhip. Moments later, they messily lands, Pearl barely keeping herself upright when she pulls Gem closer, holding her tight and letting her bury her face in Pearl's shoulder as the betrayal sinks in and her pain flows out freely. ]

[ Sensing her mess of emotions, the corruption stirs, almost rearing its head. Breathing in deeply, Pearl pushes down the ache in her own heart and she softly whispers, patting Gem's head soothingly. ]

None of that is your fault, Gem. Everyone makes mistakes, and today it was you and that's comletely okay. I promise everything will turn out fine, with or without that hellspawn. We, Fwhip and I-- will be with you until it does and until the end.

Don't blame yourself. Trust takes time, but manipulation takes less and they knew that. And of course, it will hurt.

Manipulation...?

[ The word comes out as a small whisper before she hunches in on herself. ]

Of course it was manipulation. Of course they didn't care about me, why would they? Everything, every kind word they said, every time they were proud of me, it was all fake. They just wanted to USE ME!

[ And, finally allowing herself to feel all of her barely suppressed emotions, not just from the night but ever since that day in the cave, Gem screams. ]

[ She screams, and with it her magic flows out of her in wild uncontrollable waves as she rages against the unfairness of it all, ripping up distant trees and sending them flying backwards, tearing up the ground and burning the raw emotion of the sound into the brains of anyone who happened to hear it. ]

[ Fwhip tries to move closer to her, tries to comfort her, but he is flung backwards too, getting thrown far away and hitting the ground with a loud thud. ]

[ Pearl can only watch in morbid amazement at the sheer power and magic around her, radiating off the wizard in waves. She holds Gem close, not saying anything, simply providing silent comfort as the screams turn to sobs, the sobs turn to cries, and the cries turn to silence as Gem finally succumbs to the exhaustion that has been threatening to overtake her since the ritual. ]

[ Fwhip stands up, wincing as he walks over to Pearl and Gem. ] Is she okay? We shouldn't say anything.

[ He ignores Pearls concerns, walking over to the cave. ] Cmon, Pearl!

[ Pearl gently scoops Gem up again, who lets out a small annoyed whine and buries her head in the crook of Pearl's neck. She sighs and holds Fwhip back by the hand, checking him for injuries. ]

Where do you think you're going? I agree that we won't tell her, but you just got thrown in the sky and crashed down from meters up! Sit down and stay still until I can be sure you're safe to move.

[ Tutting softly, she walks over to Fwhip. ]

I’m fine! If anything we should worry about you or Gem.

[ He whines, looking at Pearl. ]

Its just a few scratches. Nothing more, I promise!

[ Pearl throws Fwhip another death glare. Stubborn twins making her headache grow. ] Fine. But if you think this ends here, you'd be wrong. Let's go.

[ As they take off again, Pearl can't help but notice how wobbly Fwhip is and her concern rises. Much later than she anticipated, they land in front of the cave. ]

[ A burning warmth radiates from inside of the cave the twins call "home", and the tension in Pearl's head rises. It feels like it was just yesterday when she lost them to the corruption, and even now when everything is starting to look up, the looming darkness still tears at her heart. Surpressing the shake in her hands, Pearl takes a deep breathe and walks in. ]

[ Fwhip has gone ahead of her, still limbing but looking a bit more stable as he hops inside, going straight to a corner filled with red blankets. Pearl guesses is where he sleeps, and right across it is a similar nest of green - clearly Gem's spot. Gingerly, she carries her over and tucks her in, pointedly ignoring how thin the blankets are. ]

Where do you keep all the healing supplies? [ Pearl asks, but after a while with no answer, she turns to Fwhip only to find him staring blankly ahead, face full of guilt. Concerned, she slightly raises her voice. ] Fwhip, I asked where are the healing supplies?

Oh- uh, we dont have any. Xornoth thought it would help make us stronger, y’know?

[ Fwhip shrugged, leaning against the caves walls. ]
